Hi, I'm new to this forum..
My story is as follows, I've had IBD symptoms for about 6 years (I'm 21) but the doctors have always dismissed it as ibs and left it at that but I've always known it is more than that. About 2 years ago I was diagnosed with possible pernicious anaemia because I was low on b-12 and was resulting in me fainting and having bad fatigue, but recently discovered that I don't actually have PA! My younger brother has actually just been diagnosed with crohns and we have all assumed that I have it too as I have most of the symptoms (he has none!) that seem to come in flare up sessions, for example d & bad stomach cramping, huge bloating, gas, stomach noises, sickness, tenderness, black stools, tiredness etc.
anyway, I've been referred by my GP to gastroenterology but they say waiting for an appointment could take a year! I'm having a very bad flare up currently and I am in so much pain I am concerned about what to do. I've been in and out of hospital all week and they've just given me anti spazmodics and painkillers, neither of which have really helped. The X-ray showed an area of inflammation on my left upper side but A&E said there wasn't much they could do for me..
Today has got a lot worse, d is awful, I can no longer eat solid food and the stomach pain is almost unbearable. Worried as I have no idea the extent of damage on my intestines if I do too have crohns, and what this pain is indicating..
Not sure what to do now.. Any help? :confused2:

HI there , i have had crohn's for 20 years now and it seems that your symptoms indicate crohn's disease especailly if you have inflammation of the bowel region. The pain is real and diabilitating at times, have you asked your GP about Demerol for the pain it is the only drug that helps me anyway . Have you asked you GP about putting you on Ciprofloxacin for the infection and or asacol for the inflammation of the bowel. you have to stick with fluids only and stay from anything that is solid for away about a week. Also, don't take anything with NSAID's in it that is ASA. It will only make things worse. I am sorry for the pain your going through, you not alone i am going through a flare up ask i type this reply , i am on asacol , ciprofloxacin and predesone. Go back and ask him about some of the stuff , i told you about. and you can take B12 yourself , you can usually can buy it off the shelve or over the counter. it's only a vitamin . buy a pack of shinges and give it to yourself each month on time. If your afraid of needles then ask you GP about giving you a shot each month on time everytime to keep your strength up and your body functions well enough to fight of the infection. I hope this helps.

Hi Emma. It's awful what your going through. A year I too long to wait. Black stool makes me think you're bleeding higher up in the GI track. I'd keep going to emergency. You need to be properly diagnosed and treated. Giving you pills and sending you home isn't right. It's just throwing darts at a board. They've already diagnosed inflammation. Why won't the get the on call specialist to come in.
Do a colonoscopy.

I really hope you get proper treatment. Stress you're bleeding.

Sending you my support.

I totally agree! This story sounds all too familiar to me. I started experiencing Crohn's symptoms when I was 13/14 and didn't get diagnosed until I was 21! So many hours spent being dosed up on pain killers in Emergency, and told to go home. Not to mention specialists never taking me seriously. We always know when something is wrong. Stay strong, and keep fighting until you get the answers you're searching for! What you're experiencing is NOT NORMAL, and they need to take you seriously.

Good luck, love! x

Thank you all for replying! Still having all the pain, given up eating solid food now on a liquid vegetable diet, fun! 😁 going to see my doctor Monday morning so hopefully I can push the pressure of the situation a bit!

Keep on going to your GP. You need to put pressure on. Pain killers are a bandaid, the underlying inflammation needs to be addressed. I have no idea why you should have to wait a year that is against NHS guidelines which is three months. Or go back to A&E, say you cannot keep anything down and your pain is unbearable. If they ask you out of 10, say 12.
