if you pick up a book on old remedies, some of them are pretty tremedous. honey is a strong antibacterial. you can google that one. its used on skin infections. diabetics have trouble with toe infections. honey applied acts like an antibiotic. we tried this and found it to be true. it's healing for the stomach, and digestive tract, too.

Hi Wellhello,

Do you have any sources to back up this information you are presenting to the forum? If so, please provide links to them so that the forum can discuss.

In what ways have you discovered honey to be healing through your research? While there may be some benefit of honey to soothing symptoms, we need to be very careful about how we present info onto the forum so that we are not falsely representing something as a potential cure as there is no cure for Crohn's, only ways to manage it effectively.

Also when you say "we tried this and found it to be true" who are you referring to/who is "we"?

Thanks.

Honey does have topical anti-microbial properties, the wiki article gives proper citations (link).

This is due to high acidity and low water, however these properties are lost when ingested. It will do nothing to heal the stomach or GI tract. The only thing it helps when ingested is soothing the throat, but that is due to its coating abilities due to the viscosity and not the topical anti-microbial properties.

There are certain types of honey that are more healing than others. One being Manuka Honey and also Bee pollen can be very healing as well. I do know that Manuka Honey has been shown to help with treating Stomach ulcers caused by H-pylori. Also Siberian pine nut oil can help a lot with ulcers.. My best friend had a bleeding duodenal ulcer and she could not take the PPI's they recommend. She used this Siberian Pine nut oil and it healed her ulcer. That along with diet that is.

Over the years I have used topical medical grade honey on varying types of wounds and have found it to be much like any other wound product…some people respond well to its use whereas others have no benefit from it whatsoever.

Dusty. :)

On the topic of Manuka honey, it's delicious, it's over priced (at least in Canada), and the only study I have ever found regarding it being helpful when taken internally was in regards to H-pylori and that study seems to be flawed as it was looking at the reaction between the two outside of the human body.
The reason Manuka honey is claimed to help is because it is a monofloral honey, slightly medicinal smelling and the nectar comes from same tree as Tea Tree oil. But the only evidence that has popped up about it being helpful when consumed is all anecdotal.
