Hi Oliver,

I'm so sorry your having such a difficult go of it and feel the situation you are describing can be one of the most exasperating aspects of IBD. Like you. and many others, I have been down the same road--normal blood results and aggravated symptoms. In fact, none years ago, Emerg sent me home and within days I was admitted to hospital in critical condition with what was described as extremely high ESR and CRP values.

My diagnosis was about the same. After years of consultations with specialists and an additional year of normal blood results, my GP sent me for a sigmoidoscopy. At colonoscope, they found half my colon was severely inflamed. (I have numerous other examples).

So, these anomalies do, in fact, exist. Based on my experience, I suggest that you trust yourself and work on developing a good relationship with a GI you trust.(It can take some time). And, most importantly, when you are certain something is seriously awry, be persistent. I wish you the very best going forward.

Hi! I'm so sorry you're having such a bad time, and for it to be met with a response like that is just a kick in the teeth.

My bloods have never shown any significant response to flaring, but thankfully my doctor pays less attention to that and more to my symptoms.

Any doctor who looks only at the numbers on paper and not at the actual patient doesn't deserve to be in the job.

I'm afraid it will be a case of going back again and again until you find a doctor who listens to you properly - whether that be a family doctor or emergency doctor. I'm afraid I don't know how that works cost-wise if you're not in the UK, but you really can't carry on as you are for much longer.

Best wishes.

Hi Oliver, I'm sorry the doctors in the ER paid more attention to the bloodwork than to the symptoms you described. For me it's the same as for nitty. My GI knows that my inflammation can't be diagnosed by bloodwork at all and so does my Rheumy as well.

Ds always I repeat always has normal bloodwork even in Ibd or arthritis flares
His docs do other testing to figure out the source
Can the ER doc consult your Gi ?
Can you call your Gi ?
