I’m starting my first infusion / treatment this Saturday August 31st!!!

Hi all, I’m starting my first infusion of Skyrizzi this Saturday and I’m super nervous!!!
Can any of you share what to expect???

Bring a book. If it's anything like the first infusion of Stelara I had, there can be a fair amount of sitting around as the infusion drips in.

They will monitor you closely to make sure there are no unexpected adverse reactions, but I've never heard of anyone having anything very serious - maybe just some tiredness or a headache. Hopefully, you won't even have that.

Thanks @Scipio! I really hope so too!!! It’s quite nerve racking seeing the list of possible side effects.. so I’m just very nervous.

are you doing self administered for the stelara now? Is it the same how the first few are infusions at the clinic?

... the experience is a bit different for everybody, but is generally a pretty reasonable one in the grand scheme of things

Scipio's suggestion of a book is a good one, but a fully charged phone and some good podcasts is another good way to pass the time

A good set of ear phones will help block out all the background noise and also allow you to listen to your choice of music/content without disturbing others

are you doing self administered for the stelara now? Is it the same how the first few are infusions at the clinic?

Yes, I have been self-administering shots of Stelara at home for over 6 years now. I was a little nervous at first, but it's really not that difficult. For Stelara only the first loading dose is administered in the clinic. All the follow-up doses have been shots at home.

My infusions actually went really fast. I think if I remember right, two of my infusions I might have been on my own and one I was in with a few others. I brought a book, once or twice I was able to read a little. But, the nurses kept coming in to check on me to make sure all was good so I didn't cover many of the pages.
I was a little sore afterwards and it took me a bit in order to get used to the new drug. But, for the most part had no problem. Did my first injection on August 8th and will try doing it myself for the first time October 3rd. The training went pretty smoothly and once the needle was in me only took a couple minutes. I don't expect to have any problems when I do it myself.

Stelara is in a prefilled syringe similar to many other drugs. Injections for Stelara have a few location options
It is not an auto injector

The unit for skyrizi is different for crohns

@my little penguin thanks for the info.. will see how it goes. I was only offered Skyrizzi so only read that one up. Clearly there are lots of alternatives out there.
