I was just prescribed 50'000iu vitamin d3 daily and entorcort for Crohn's of course. My first question is my pharmacist said that high of a dose should be once a week tops not daily? And my second question is after I got my scripts the bottle was for vitamin d2 instead of d3 is this a problem or r they basically the same? If some one could answer my questions I would really appreciate it thank you!!

D3 is not the same as D2, D3 is the one members most often talk about supplementing with.

Only oil based forms (such as capsules) of vitamin D3 should be taken, NOT dry tablets as they are poorly absorbed (unless taken with a teaspoon of olive oil) [5]. According to a letter from Doctor John J Cannell MD of the Vitamin D Council written in November 2011 to Crohnsforum.com, "25(OH)D levels need to be 70-80 ng/ml, which requires 5,000 – 10,000 IU/day of vitamin D3, to treat Crohn’s disease.

50,000iu seems to be a lot I would also think it would be weekly, I am going to tag David as he has a lot of info involving Vitamin D

Do u think it's ok to take my entorcort with my antibiotic? I don't want one to cancel out or weaken the other I gotta take them both 3 x's a day so it's easier for me to take them together.

I'm not sure as my son doesn't have experience with antibiotics or entocort. If your GI px'ed you both of them then I would contact his GI nurse or the pharmacy where you got them filled, both of them should be able to give you an answer.

I took antibiotics and entocort at the same time after I was diagnosed, and for a couple months after. I didn't have a problem with it. However, if you are really concerned about it, call up your doctor, or even a pharmacist. As for the Vit D, I take 50,000 iu of D3 once a week. I'm not sure about taking it everyday, I would also call my doc about that. Sorry I can't be of much help, but I hope you get this sorted out soon and start feeling better!

I agree, the Vit D should definitely be D3 and contact the doctor to confirm the dose.

Antibiotics are a very common first line treatment and there is no issue with using them in combination with steroids (Entocort).

Dusty. :)
