After having an illeostomy for a year I am going in on May 5th for an illeostomy takedown surgery. I am a bit nervous and a bit excited.

I’ve had a recession 14 years ago and another surgery last year where it leaked and I went septic and had to have another surgery and ended up an ostomate.
I don’t hate having the bag but I am going to try to get reconnected.
Hoping it doesn’t leak and I can get back to normal healthy ‘bowel function’
I do not miss sitting on cold porcelain.

Any advice or experience with this takedown surgery?

Best of luck, a few here have had succesful take downs and others sadly returned to needing an ostomy. I think it depends on why you needed it in the first place and disease progression.

Tagging samboi who had a successful takedown.

Wishing you a safe and fast healing. Please keep us posted.

Ive had successful takedown 7 months since i was reconnected. Surgery itself wasn't bad at all . Still have minor problems ie fissure but i can put up with that hopefully heals soon . Good luck with ur takedown :)

I use loperimide daily which thickens a little but can be quite loose and frequent if i dnt take it but i go about 5-6 times a day and once through the night most nights x
