I had my colonoscopy this morning and it was finished by midday and was back home by 2pm. since being home i have finally ate something for the first time in nearly 2 days but in the last hour i am back on the toilet again with D just like i had yesterday with the prep :(

is it safe to take imodium now to try and stop the D as i cant take another night like last night

Hi,
I felt like this after I had taken the prep but I found that it got better about 24 hours later. It should stop soon. Hang in there.

I've heard there is a potential issue with Imodium and IBD, something called 'mega colon'. That is all I've heard on the subject, so you may want to ask around before going that route. There are some natural remedies for the big D, like a solution of corn starch in water... whether there are risks in that I don't know. Just that you may want to find out what the risks are with Imodium before you take any. Life is tuff enuff without further complications, right?

Kev, I take a dose of imodium every day, now I need to look into 'mega colon'...I take it for my Crohn's. I should go back to the Colestid that I tried for a month, it seemed to work well also.

ive taken imodium in the past to stop the really bad bouts of D, it is one of the only things which does stop it and ease the pain at the time.

I only wanted to take them tonight because the D has been non stop and i just wasnt sure if there would be any problems taking them after having laxitives and a colonoscopy. So far ive had no problems since taking them and the D has stopped :)

Glad things are better! Immodium are for just such situations. A few tablets now and then is not going to do any harm.

Mega colon as I understand it can be caused by prolonged, heavy use of Immodium, which doesn't apply to the OP.

You might want to try a light, bland diet for a few days to help get things back on track.
