kidney stones

I went to the ER with severe lower ride quadrant pain earlier today. Come to find out I have another kidney stone. This is the third kidney stone I have ever had and they are beginning to become a more frequent thing. They are incredibly painful and pain medication doesn't even seem to touch the pain. Mine are always small which I was told causes them to be more painful then a large one because they move around more. I'm only 19 and feel like this is a bizarre thing to happen to someone of my age and sex. Does anyone else get kidney stones often? Is it just something that happens to people with crohn's? I just don't understand why I keep getting them.

I've had several kidney stones, but I had UC rather than Crohn's. I have always had a problem with oxalate stones, and now it seems this may well have been due to the amount of black tea I was drinking. I avoid it like the plague, and nothing more has formed, but I still have in the kidney that needs to come out. I'm sure it will announce itself soon enough.

With IBD in general, Crohn's or UC, I gathered from my specialist that we don't absorb enough of the fluid in our intestines, so we can form stones a lot easier in the kidneys so we hvae to drink a lot more than most. Perhaps this is the issue with yourself? Has your doc given you any tips on what it may be? I was lucky with mine I was able to actually get a stone and get it examined, hence I know that mine are oxalate stones.

I can understand the pain. It's really quite nasty. I hope you can understand what is causing so many of them and get past this.
