I'm Lactose intollerant and frequently am buying/going through my half gallons of milk. I would love the chance to buy whole gallons to make things a little easier on our budget. But, everywhere I can think of doesn't carry the lactose free milk in gallons. Found something on the internet about making regular milk into lactose free. Seems to be pretty expensive online and not really carried in the stores here in the US. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks:mademyday:

the brand Lactaid has gallon milk.. I am pretty sure I have found that at most stores.. super walmarts.. and/or our Wegmans.. I go thru alot of milk and have to do lactaid free. I also like to do fat free and I would love to find it organic.. but only found that once.

Hey M2M i do agree that Lactaid milk gallon is easily available at Walmart which is free from lactose because i usually go there mostly . So i think people who are in search of taking lactose free milk should visit Walmart . Thanks

Thanks for the info! I work for Kroger and just put in a request for people like us that our stores might carry the gallons in lactose free:) Will let you know what I find out.

I used to drink Lactaid milk, then I went off it for a while. Then I bought a carton and it was great having cereal again, but it gave me bad gas and diarrhea! Is that stuff truly 100% lactose free?

You can pickup lactase drops on Amazon and add them to a gallon of regular milk - it is slightly cheaper than buying Lactaid based on the prices in my area. I don't know what the economics of it would be at a Kroger, especially if you are eligible for employee discounts, but it is approximately $1.50 worth of drops per gallon of regular milk.

Tiaspins: Lactaid is mostly lactose free, but may have small amounts of residual lactose. Generally, this is well below the threshold needed to cause an intolerance-based reaction. You could have a milk allergy (to the casein protein) or it could be the cereal itself (high fiber cereals would have the same effects of causing bloating and gas, even without milk).

I do get an employee discount with Kroger/Fred Meyer and sometimes it is a little cheaper than Lactaid or other brands. I haven't gotten the drops before. Have read up on them, but never ordered them cause I couldn't find them.

No, I haven't seen the Valio Real Goodness and haven't seen it here in the Northwest yet. Will keep a watch for it though...

Hmmm...I never thought about it being the cereal. I don't think I'm allergic to milk I can eat blue cheese, swiss, parmesan and small amts. of aged cheddar no problem.

I've thought, more than once, about trying the drops, but they get such mixed reviews (on Amazon) about how well they work and how tricky it is to use enough to get rid of all the lactose.
