Well, I am now going to be med free since 2010...

Took amoxycilin for a mouth infection I had caused by a wisdom tooth. A week after I ended it, I got sick. I got really sick on Christmas Eve. Morning. Been in the hopistal since then. Now they are keeping me for another few days so hopefully I'll be out before the new year.

So far I've had about 6 blood tests, 2 blood cultures, 3 stool cultures, 2 rectal exams, 2 cat scans, an MRI, and a partridge in a pear tree. Getting a fistula drained and taken care of tomorrow. I've been on Vancomyicin, Zofran, Morphine, Zosyn, and hydrocortizone. Getting Remicade after the fistula is done with and the abscess that is next to it is gone. It has been a hell of a holiday.

Thankfully I am feeling better. I hadn't eaten from Noon on christmas eve untill late night on the 26th. I'm back on my feet but now I feel like a rat in a cage because I have to wait for them to take care of my internal stuff.

I just feel like complaining about this oh so crappy week I'm having. Especially on christmas. At least I have some family and friends who have shown me that they care. My family gets together for christmas and christmas eve every single year since before I was born. Every time it's 20-30 people (my mother has 8 brothers and sisters). This year, they all waited and did not open presents on christmas eve for the first time ever because they thought I would be out of the hospital the next day. Unfortunately I wasn't and they opened gifts on christmas day, but the fact that they waited for me really struck a chord in my heart.

Once again, just whining where ever I can. And this is it. Thanks to all who read it. Happy New Year, may this one may be better than the last.

Sorry to hear that! What awful timing, on Christmas, that sucks! Hopefully they can get you fixed up and well on your way soon!

Dude - not good. It is sweet that they tried to wait for you though. It is nice to know that you are loved!

So - are they just giving you one dose of Remi? Seems like you might need at least two or three to get that fistula closed up?

Hoping the natural way works for you Slandur.

Well, I had to get anesthesia today. They had to look at an abscess and a fistula in my colon. Apparently they treat the fistula with Remicade, but they wouldn't until they saw the abscess was gone. THANKFULLY, it IS gone after getting the procedure done this morning.

I'm getting remicade tomorrow, and they are sending me home just in time so I may enjoy the new year with my family at least. Apparently the fistula wasn't serious enough to have a seton put in or anything else serious.

Live, posting from the Stony Brook Hospital, thank you for the support. And yes, having a family like this has really helped me out.

Wow, sorry to hear that this is all happening during the holidays. I read your post in the "introduce yourself" forum. I was also diagnosed with Crohn's in 2000 (January), when I was only 9 years old. It's great that you have such a good support system from your family though. Family support is what is keeping me alive and (somewhat) sane right now. I'm a sophomore at UB (like an hour from RIT which I read you went to), so I know how difficult it can be for peers to have any clue whatsoever what Crohn's does to someone...I hope you start to feel better, and have a much better year in 2010!
