Ron,
Ya just had the barium test a couple weeks back it is a good one but dang I almost throw up every time, horrible stuff. I have constant low blood pressure so have to stand still when I first stand up or I'll black out. So when my blood pressure is "normal" I have to let them know it's high for me.

Good luck, Doug! How long does the infusion take? I loved having my chromebook along when I had iron infusions in 2015. Definitely made the time go by faster, being able to watch movies.

The infusion for Entyvio is a quick one. It takes about 45 minutes with everything. I watched an episode of Longmire on Netflix. Now I am home and will see how long it takes to get the fatigue attack.

Mandy please don't read this,,, I have a few tatts and thinking about getting another, not sure what to get, thought about including something crohnsie in it. ideas welcome.

Oopps i read it...im naughty like that, i like to be defiant. :rof:

Hey everyone, sorry for being so inactive over the past couple of days. I hope everyone is doing fine. Sending well wishes to everyone here, especially to Ron and Doug :ghug:

CYY - I have a question for you. When I went to Japan, there were mostly western-style toilets (really nice ones with heated seats, bidets, etc) but there were also some squat toilets which were pretty awful. Do you guys have squat toilets in Singapore?

Hey Cat, we do have squat toilets in Singapore, but they're usually situated at the older food courts and shopping centres. The newer shopping centres have toilets that come with a seat. Let me tell you, squat toilets are awful. Urinating is fine, but passing motion is a pain in the ass, and a huge strain on my chopstick-like legs. Bidets are quite uncommon here, and it costs a bomb to get one. But this gets me thinking, wouldn't it be great to pamper myself with such a great toilet? :D

Maybe if I could afford one ._.

CYY, thanks for answering my question. I really hate squat toilets! I have a hard time squatting low enough because of my hip arthritis (my knees are not so great either). I found that it was difficult even urinating in the squat toilets. In Kyoto station, they seemed to only have squat toilets, and a lot of women had been using the toilets that day, and as a result there was urine all over the floor. We ladies cannot exactly aim our pee streams! So I had to stand in other people's pee as I squatted, and I also ended up peeing on my own shoe during the process. That was a really gross experience. Thank goodness my shoes were machine-washable!

I do have an inexpensive bidet sprayer attachment on my toilet at home, but it's not heated and it doesn't have any fancy settings. The toilets in Japan with the heated seats and heated bidets, those were wonderful! I would also like to pamper myself with one of those. They are really expensive, but it's on my wish list for when I am able to remodel my bathroom. I want a heated bidet with heated seat, I want a TV in the bathroom that's visible from the toilet and the tub, I want a heated floor in the bathroom, I want a really nice bathtub with the massaging jacuzzi jets... now I just need to come up with tons of money for all of that! :p Easier said than done.

I think so.....we are getting one when we build onto our A-frame where we will retire.

I figure if it's not unpacked by now it doesn't need to be. I'm waiting for our weather to improve so I can spend some time on the yard. It's nice the snow has melted so I can see what's under it but I have no idea of the plantings, etc until it's warm enough to start things growing again. Guess I'll wait for the surprises and hope they're pleasant. 😊

I would love a bidet. I will own one eventually. I have promised myself that. I am a decent plumber, so I could do a good job of installing it. Its just the $$$$ factor. LOL

I was at my GP yesterday and she asked if I got dizzy because my blood pressure was low.

At Home Depot you can get it as cheap at $69 for an attachment to regular toilet not as good as the more expensive one but and alternative.

Jane, that's probably similar to the one I have - mine is just a very basic bidet sprayer, not heated and nothing fancy. I got mine on amazon, I think it was about $40. It's fine for now but I really want a fancy heated one at some point. I got super spoiled when I was in Japan and I saw how nice bidets can be. Having a heated seat was wonderful!

Totally agree, my sister has a nice one that dries too which I want.

I think a lot of us would like bidets; I don't have any tats, don't like most of them myself (but like Mandy, don't hold it against those who do), and then again the zipper idea or flower vine for a scar seemed kinda cool. I've even seen some before and after pictures of some horrific burn scars that almost made the skin look normal again with tattoo techniques. But sorry, Trev, I don't have any ideas for you.
And Ron, protonix works much better for me than Prevacid. I hope you find the same for you.
Back to the dream bathroom, I want all of what Cat said, the fancy bidet with all of the features, plus a TV I can see from tub or toilet, plus one more eensy teensy other thing, a fireplace in the room. 😊

went for an early morning fish today, was really nice until the wind got up at 11 am and chased us home, and ladies if you want a toilet on my boat you will get to use a bucket.

Sandy, great minds think alike! I never knew a TV in the bathroom was an option until I went to Japan. In Kyoto, our hotel room had a TV in the bathtub, and it was really cool. I was able to soak while watching very odd Japanese game shows. I'm thinking that I could get a cheap tablet (Kindle fire is only like $50 now) and put it in some sort of waterproof case and mount it somehow, and then I could watch Netflix or Hulu on that. It's not Japanese game shows but it's close enough (and maybe I could get Japanese game shows on youtube?). I never thought of a fireplace! My bathroom is so small that I'd have to settle for a candle, ha ha. Or maybe I could watch the fireplace channel on the tablet that I set up as a TV. ;)

Used those many a time on boat when raced them in Hawaii. Also, on C130 aircraft behind a shower curtain....ya who needs privacy....fun times lol

Cat,

I bring the laptop and boombox while having a bath. I sit the laptop on the seat of the chair and the small(but very loud) boombox on the bottom rungs of the old wooden chair. I watch a show I picked ahead of time that lasts about an hour.(I like to have a good long soak) It is pretty decent actually, as long as the fan is on and you don't splash water, all is good. I have a second facecloth to dry my hands on before dealing with the laptop if need be. Never had a problem in 7 years or so of doing it. I guess that is my Japanese bathroom TV.

Lol, I've done similar, but watched a movie on my smartphone instead of laptop. Also had a spare hand towel sitting nearby for wet hands. I've also been known to read in the tub, I've gotten pretty good at keeping things dry that need it. No room for a chair in our tiny bathroom. In fact, barely room for a candle on the sink countertop.

Trev, I would be happy just to have a boat! And in the "good old days," I've done plenty of wilderness camping, not even a bucket. (I don't care to go back to that though.)

I don't have a fan in my bathroom! :( The people who built my house did some very questionable things and that's one of them. We're constantly bleaching away the mold and mildew because there's just nowhere for the moisture to go. So I wouldn't trust my laptop in there.

(We do plan to renovate the bathroom at some point and will add a fan, but first we need to build a bathroom in our basement as we only have one bathroom, and we can't tear it apart to remodel it if we don't also have a basement bathroom to use during the renovations!)

I do have an old ipod on a dock in the bathroom, though. So I can listen to music when I'm soaking in the tub. So far the ipod hasn't crapped out on me due to the moisture. Like Sandy, I keep a towel near it so that I can dry off my hand before skipping to the next song or whatever.

As for a bucket - that still sounds like it's better than a squat toilet. :p

Cat,

I wish I was there to help, I have installed several hundred bath fans. No joke. Every bathroom needs one. If you need advice on putting one in ask me I will lead you through it.

Between resort maintenance and HVAC training with sheet metal. Those were very common to work with.

Maybe one day we can work together and get one going in your house.

Hi peeps... hope everyone has a good day/evening.💕

Talking toilets .... or should i say buckets etc. I have a childs foldable potty that i keep in my car so if im caught short iv got my own little toilet to use. If im walking in the countryside i put it in my backpack. Happy days no more worrying that il have an accident whilst out n about. 😃

Went to the after hours clinic last night because my cough was getting worse, not better, and my almost non existent energy was going downhill. With my heart/lung condition I was starting to get concerned, especially since I have had some aspect of a cough since my lung function study Dec. 8, almost three months. 😮 Bottom line, I'm borderline low oxygen and now on antibiotics for bronchitis/pneumonia (to make sure it doesn't aggravate other condition) and get to take 40mg of pred for seven days. 😮😮😮
We will have former foster son shortly for most of the day, and just hope I can function.
(Maybe I should tattoo my lungs onto my chest?)

Thinking of you Sandy, my dad has just been cleared from his pneumonia.

Cmack, In my 30's I completed my electrical service technician qualification. Only because I wanted to update all my light fittings and switches and didn't want to pay an electrician. So I studied a course for 30 Saturdays and learned how to do a lot more than just light switches.

Trev, buckets are great. Beats trying to sit with butt over the side of the boat. If I did the latter I would fall in.

Way to go Madhu !!! .......Sandy,Sandy,Sandy, sigh, what next ??? You're a medical phenomenan that's for sure.If we could, I know we would all club together and offer bits of ourselves to help you get well.
Everyone else.I had to smile when reading your "Tales From The Bathroom" stories.
Squats, buckets, bidets and fold up potties, where else but here would others find it interesting.? I know I've shared this with Cat,but I used a 20ft hole in the ground while in Australia. That's all there was,a dirt floor and a life threatening chasm inside a ramshackle hut. But,when you gotta go,you gotta go.I also shared a toilet with a 2ft plus lizard, but he was asleep. And you must always check under the seat and surroundings for poisonous spiders.I mean, who would you ask to suck the poison out.?

Sandy,

I am praying for you too. I hope you try to get lots of rest. Make sure you have a long enough course of antibiotics, I always ask for two weeks worth because sometimes 10 days has failed me and made matters worse.

Wishing you well,

cmack

Aura,

That's cool about the electrical course you took. I took one in high school. I have been using Ohm's law ever since. I love to work with electronics and just electricity in general. I have all kinds of little gadgets that I have made. Fun stuff.

Hope you are doing ok,

cmack

Fuzz,

That portable potty sounds like a great idea. I have always used a log and washed up in a nearby creek with a bar of soap that I keep handy. Brrrr!

Best regards,

cmack

scottsma,

That sounds like an outhouse of terrors to me. Spiders under the seat, and poisonous ones to boot! Not on my bucket list that's for sure!

I hope you are well and cycling lots,

cmack

I find it great. You just place a plastic bag over the frame, make your deposit use wet wipes and tie up the bag and dispose off when possible. So handy but it is small . Good job im a skinny minnie 😃😃

Not on your "bucket list"? (With all the potty talk this caught my funny bone.)

And as for that outhouse of terrors, I'd rather fall in the lake, like Kirsty would if she were on the edge of a boat. One time while camping in our tent trailer (no bathroom facility) late in the season in a campground with outhouses, these strange outhouses had no roof and it was snowing. Every time we had to use the facilities, we had to wipe snow off the toilet seats. Brrr.:ywow:
:rof::rof::rof:

I'm often worried about what will happen if I have to use the bathroom when I'm on my kayak. Like Aura said, I'd fall off the boat if I tried "going" over the side. And it's a bit too small to carry a portable potty/bucket with, plus I'm rather exposed in the kayak! I think I'd have to pull the boat over and go in the woods.

Sandy, poor thing. I'm down to 8 mg pred but I started at 40. It's not a fun drug but sometimes it's necessary. I hope it helps.

Cmack, that's cool that you're able to build electrical things! Have you seen this? I think it'd be fun to build something like this if I had the know-how.

Cat,

That's hilarious! ROTFL! I think I could make one using an arduino microcontroller. You can buy kits and program them with your computer to do certain things in series or to react to movements and such. You can add gyroscopes or motion sensors, basically the sky is the limit. I was thinking of making something like that one day. One guy even made a battery powered lawnmower that worked like one of those robotic vacuums to mow his lawn automatically(seemed a little dangerous to me). I saw some other guy that built a segway using arduino. Neat stuff.

I so want to buy one where did you get it?

I made a post and it said something warning me about it being a duplicate? Anybody know if I'm in trouble or something? I hope not. I try not to duplicate. I speak off the cuff.

That warning is not trouble. It appears when you accidently click submit reply on the same post twice in 5 minutes. It is just preventing duplicate posts.

At last something worked...but you have all missed my best literary efforts the past few days

Sorry to hear of your illness Sandy....hurry up and keep well
That goes for all of you under the weather...

I see there has been outbursts of lavatory humour these days...reminds me of our tours through bear country in Northern Michigan....
Out houses consisting of a plank of wood over a hole then a steep 20 foot drop...had to be very careful

When we were driving from East to West USA...we had to share highways with bison...that took some slow careful driving....the bison ignored us..

Hi CMack...
I would carefully write a relevant story and then the post kept being redirected to cyberspace...gremlins busy at it..
I really don't understand what happened but reported it and now it's ok thanks for the offer though...

They were very calm, like cows in a field...but signage told us to drive slowly and not disturb
them

I love to eat moose pepperoni. Yummy! I never did try bison. I don't hunt much anymore, I don't want to kill anything if I don't have to. More target practice than anything these days. I'm good at shooting clay pigeons!

Hey everyone,

Just came back from a tiring 30-hour national competition today. The organisers invited my team to participate in the competition because we were the winners for the junior event of the same name last year. This time, we were a bunch of junior college students competing against a whole lot of university students, so we were very disadvantaged. Nonetheless, despite not winning anything, the whole event was still an eye opener for me.

I've not slept for over 34 hours and I'm dead beat right now. (( _ _ ))..zzzZZ

Hey cmack, you use Arduino too? I thought I was the only electronics hobbyist here :')

I've built myself a piezo music player and a 3x3x3 LED cube before, pretty fun stuff. A more serious project would be my school research project whereby I used an Arduino Pro Mini, some touch sensors, and RTC and an MP3 sound module and a speaker, and together with some 3D printing, to make a pill box holder that could help the elderly suffering from visual impairment to locate their medication and remind them when to take their medication.

Between me and my teammate, we share 2 Pro Minis and 3 Unos. Arduino for the win! :D

CYY,

I haven't tried one yet but I have been researching the technology and might buy a kit soon. Are there any problems with the knock offs from China? they are way cheaper. Let me know I'm an electronics geek! And proud of it.

Get some rest buddy,

cmack

Thanks cmack :)

I don't know much about the knock offs from China, as I've always had my Arduinos shipped from Sparkfun. Theirs is the legitimate version, and it works very well. I guess if you're looking for a cheaper version you could get many knock offs, then when one doesn't work you'll have all these extras. ;)

My experience with kits is that they have a little bit of everything, but they'll always be something missing for you to complete a project. I guess if you're just starting out you could get a kit and play around with all the peripherals, but I would recommend coming up with a project first, then buying only all the electrical components needed for that project. That way, you won't end up with a dozen parts just lying around with no breadboard to connect to. ;)

Let me know how it goes :D

Too much science for me but my hubby tinkers with things like that and I love the results! It's a rest day for me before the crazy week of month end madness happens at work.

CYY,

Yeah I have lots of spare parts laying around from my drone. Good thinking on just getting what you need. I think I will try a cheapie to play with then invest more if I come up with a neat project Idea. Cool buddy thanks. I'll probably be talking to you about this stuff in the near future.

Peace! :)

Strange stuff...couldn't edit the last post I made that posted prematurely. Oh well. I bottled 6 gallons of homemade strawberry wine today. It's a fun hobby for me but alcohol is not my friend so it is mostly for guests. My girlfriend came and help me so we swapped salmon her hubby freshly smoked this morning for several bottles of my wine. I think I got the better end of the deal. 😀

nice to see some more electronics nerds on here, I recently built a coil winder an am rewinding seagull ignition coils (Villiers Coils) its full electronic control and I modified a calculator to count the turns.my shed is full of electronic toys that I have built including a tig welder with high frequency start. haven't played with Arduino as I am too old and lazy to write code.

Wow, sounds like a cool project, Trev. Maybe some pictures? (^^)

You know you don't have to start everything from scratch when you build a project right? Especially the codes. Everything's on the internet nowadays. The IDE itself has a whole lot of example codes. Arduino codes are open sourced; there are lots of people who share the codes for their projects on the Arduino forum (arduino.cc). If that's not enough, you can try downloading even more example codes from GitHub (github.com) onto the IDE. Copy, paste, modify, edit. Saves you a ton of time (debugging time not included). At least that's what I do for my codes, heh heh :')

Trysha, the forum went down for me for a little bit recently so I think it's just being glitchy again lately. I had let Jennifer know when I wasn't able to get onto the forum, so she's aware. If anybody wants to add me on facebook, just send me a PM - that way, you can let me know if you're having forum issues and I can let Jenn know.

Hello Cat...thank you for the information
It seems to be working ok now and hopefully it will stay that way.. it has not occurred since I complained.
All my literary efforts were consigned to cyberspace so sorry that people did not have the opportunity to read and respond....sigh....thems the breaks.
I do not use Facebook
It is a very cold sunny day today....I was almost blown over by the wind.. a kind lady stopped me from being picked up by the wind...it was pulling my feet off the ground with the walker.. ..a bit scary....just like the boy bikers on ET off into space....she wasn't much heavier than me...both lightweights in fact....but she was taller and younger.....be good to have the energy of youth once more.
I am now indoors and not likely to venture out again.
I was returning from physiotherapy....so tired of all those visits....but getting there with walking more.
Winning....

I went on a wounded warrior canoe trip through the everglades in Florida. I learned how to drop trowel over the side of the boat. Better than getting in the water with the gators. :eek2:

GI Jane,

That sounds like a crazy fun adventure in the everglades. Must have been neat. You must have skill to not tip the boat while heeding the call of mother nature. LOL No specifics required. I have a wild imagination. HA!

nice to see some more electronics nerds on here, I recently built a coil winder an am rewinding seagull ignition coils (Villiers Coils) its full electronic control and I modified a calculator to count the turns.my shed is full of electronic toys that I have built including a tig welder with high frequency start. haven't played with Arduino as I am too old and lazy to write code.

Trev,

That tig welder sounds cool! I have mig and an arc welders. I went to welding school when I was doing my auto body apprenticeship. Always wanted a tig just the $$$$ factor, know what I mean? I am working on making a spot welder out of an old microwave in my spare time lately.

Cmack and CYY, I didn't understand much of anything there either, but I find it fascinating. How did you guys learn to do this sort of thing? Do you take programming classes? I'm sort of obsessed with this robot band from the 1980s (look up the Rock-Afire Explosion on youtube - if you remember Showbiz Pizza, they were the in-house robot band). Sometimes old robots from the band come up for sale online and I have a secret wish to buy one and fix it up and make it work again, so I'd love to learn how to do electronic programming for an animatronic robot. I have no idea where to begin though! Any tips for someone who'd like to learn but is completely clueless?

GI Jane, a canoe is fairly heavy though - I have 2 kayaks, and although one is large and heavy, the other is small and inflatable! I'd go right over the side in a second if I tried "going" on that boat. :p That's the boat that worries me, if I was in the middle of a lake and had to go, I'd really be stuck!

Cat,

I took an electricity course in high school. Other than that I mainly learned from lots of reading about how things work that interested me. Plus I did a lot of wiring and troubleshooting in the auto body shop that I used to work in. We fixed semi trucks in my shop. I mostly tore them down and got them ready for paint. Then I put the wiring and parts that I needed to remove, back together after the paint cured. I learned a lot at technical school too about that stuff. My advice is research whatever device etc you want to figure out and learn how it works. Once you understand the workings it tends to become easier. A cheap little multi tester and a soldering iron is always a good start too_Ohm's law is something you should look up too(it is the basis of all electrical workings). I have a refillable butane soldering iron coming in the mail, so I can solder electronic circuits where there are no electrical outlets nearby. I'm excited for it to arrive.

Just my geeky thoughts. LOL

I have since bought a tig as I was limited when welding alloy, I have recently rewired a microwave transformer for a spot welder, I got as far as getting some copper for the electrodes and now its sitting on the back burner, I did test it by heating a 4 inch nail across it, looked impressive.

CYY, I have so many projects and no energy, fatigue limits me to a couple of hours a day, maybe one day I will have a play with Arduino, I fly rc planes and see a lot of Arduino circuits used in them, but I am of the KISS fraternity and see too many planes becoming lawn darts because of electronic component failure. so I have hesitated to use it.

Trev,

I hope you can get over the fatigue. I had that for almost a decade. I still have it a bit. It totally sucks man. I feel for you. I was lucky enough that mine got better with a change in diet(only the last year or so). I wish you well bud.

Just at physio waiting my turn and catching up on thread. Such variety of discussions going on I love it.

I had my second battle with Entyvio fatigue this weekend. Infusion on Thursday afternoon. Tiredness hit Thursday evening through Saturday. Began feeling like a normal human again on Sunday. Wow.

Trev,

I was advised to supplement with B12 time release 1200mcg and D3 1000 IU, per day, whenever I can't get a sunburn is the D3 rule, also vegetarian omega 3's every day as directed on the bottle. I became 95% vegetarian. I did it slowly as I was a real big meat eater! I also eat ground brown flax seed 2 Tbsp every day in a smoothie or on organic cereal. I eat walnuts every day 3 or so. Also I eat mainly organics, baby spinach, fruits of all kinds especially bananas and organic Kashi brand cereal with organic soy milk or organic almond milk. Dark chocolate for snacks. 1" cube or so, sometimes roasted peanuts 1/2 cup. The brighter color of the vegetable the more it is good for you. It helps tremendously with our natural gene expression. I also drink filtered water at least 2L per day, more in summer or if working hard. I have the odd little bit of old cheddar as it agrees with me.(don't tell my doc or he would be mortified)LOL I also take VSL#3 probiotics from the local druggist OTC(made a huge difference) My doctor does all these things as well and he is the picture of health. His wife has IBD so he is very aware of what foods work. He told me if I followed these diet guidelines that I had an 80 percent chance of remission. It worked!

If you want to know more pm me any time bud,

I'm sort of obsessed with this robot band from the 1980s (look up the Rock-Afire Explosion on youtube - if you remember Showbiz Pizza, they were the in-house robot band). Sometimes old robots from the band come up for sale online and I have a secret wish to buy one and fix it up and make it work again, so I'd love to learn how to do electronic programming for an animatronic robot. I have no idea where to begin though! Any tips for someone who'd like to learn but is completely clueless?

Hey, Cat! I was forced to use Arduino as part of my research project last year, so that's how I got to learn programming. I initially didn't quite see the usefulness of it at first, but after winning a couple of inter-school competitions doing programming with Arduino (while all the other teams made apps), I came to appreciate it more and more. At the end of last year, I was invited to give a bunch of keynote addresses to the school leaders and a whole lot of pupils, as well as to submit my project for a nationwide inventor award, and had to do a lot of major touch-ups within a short period of time. It was only during this hectic period of time that I found out that programming wasn't like studying for an exam at all. I actually enjoyed the whole process. :D

The above story also goes to show that you don't have to be an A grade student to do great things. I continued to prove myself wrong time and time again throughout last year :)

Tips-wise, maybe you can try looking for a project online that you really like to do? Can't give much advice without knowing roughly what you're doing first actually. Sorry! :')

Yeah, I get how you feel. Sometimes, I'm just so tired that I don't feel like doing anything at all. Maybe you could try making something that wouldn't take up so much of your time? I personally like to play around with piezo buzzers and make them play music. I'm about halfway through coding Andante Festivo by Jean Sibelius into my Arduino. Haven't had the time to finish it though...

Alright guys, I'll be going for an appointment with my GI doc and my dietitian soon. Hopefully the Azathioprine works well on me and that I can reintroduce more food into my body soon ^^
