Today, after we got the information from my Doctor's office, I called the insurance company again and had a completely different experience. This time they acknowledged the phone call with my doctor's office, instead of telling me my doc's office was lying to me. It turns out the infusion center used the wrong billing code. The code they used required a pre-auth. The code they were suppose to use does not require a pre-auth.

However there is one more step we must get through. The Entyvio needs to be ordered through the specialty pharmacy and shipped to me. Then I need to bring it to the infusion center with me.

Hopefully we get this all sorted before may next infusion (March 23rd).

Awesome news re doc offices excellent record of the conversation. Well done them.

Yes GI Jane we were IV twins yesterday. Today I feel like you hit by a bus, walked into a brick wall. I'm having pyjama day on the sofa cuddling Jammer when he wants one.

I have fed pets and myself. So that's what I achieved this morning. Yay!

Good morning, everyone! It was nice waking up to all the messages of concern. Thanks guys! Really appreciate all of you here! :ghug:

I fell into a very deep sleep last night, although I was woken up early this morning by nurses wanting to take my blood glucose level. Nonetheless, being in hospital has its perks too. For one, I get to sleep much more than I normally would get to. And I'm sure we all know, the best way to beat fatigue is to sleep XD

My pain level and fever has gone up again, and joint pain has started to set in, so the nurses have hooked me up to more IVs (I've got two on me at the moment). The glucose and sodium chloride solution is fine, but the Paracetamol burns when it gets pumped into my veins :(

After my two syncopes yesterday, I've also just been tagged with a "Fall Risk" wristband, so all the nurses have been very kind to me. But I t's kind of embarrassing when you have to urinate and defecate on a wheelchair that looks like a toilet seat with a bucket below :')

You mentioned an intolerance to Aza, I presume this means you'll be stopping the Aza - have your doctors come up with another medication plan for you?

Hey Cat, I'm not too sure about what the next step would be, but right now the blood culture hasn't come back yet, so the doctors can't know for sure if the pancreatitis is caused by a bacterial infection, a virus, or the Azathioprine. They suspect that it's the latter.

Anyways, breakfast is here again, and I'm looking with envy at all the yummy food around me yet I still can't eat anything. I think I'm just going to take in all the sights and smells and hope that they will fill my empty stomach :p

Hang in there CYY sleep as much as you can. Thinking of you, and wishing you well.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the encouragement. Doing my best to stay strong despite everything :^) <-- to quote CP XD

Anyways, here's some updates from me:

1) Had some blood drawn from one of the arteries on my wrist yesterday for the blood culture. The needle was so thick and it was so painful. I hate needles ._.

2) My IV failed today. There was some fluid trapped beneath my skin and my left hand felt cold and numb. A muse tried to drain the fluid out but blood kept on oozing out :O

3) Drew more blood for cholesterol testing. The nurse twisted the needle 180 degrees just to catch a vein that was "running away". Now I have a big large bruise at my elbow :(

4) Entertained 15 medical students who came in three different groups. There was a professor who scolded a group of medical students for asking me the wrong questions right in front of me. I felt really bad for them. The conclusion that I came to was that a Crohnie is only ever popular at the hospital ._.

5) The doctors are now quite sure that it's pancreatitis. Only thing left is for the blood culture to come back to confirm the diagnosis, determine the cause of the pancreatitis, and come up with a treatment plan. Meanwhile, I've been put on a combination of antibiotics, Omeprazole and Paracetamol. It's been working very well on me. My fever has subsided completely and the abdominal pain, although still omnipresent, has significantly reduced in intensity. Yay! ^^

I am sorry about the pancreatitis.

I am sorry about the pancreatitis.

There's no need to be sorry for that, Ron. I don't blame you, nor any one of you here for that matter, for what has happened to me. It's all part and parcel of the Crohn's experience. After all, we're all in the same boat together.

Yes, it's true that each and everyone of our experiences on the boat is unique and may differ from one another's, but in the end, we're still a group of people bonded the same goal of winning the race against Crohn's.

Sometimes, one or two of us may feel tired and row the boat slower, but as long as we can continue to give encouragement and support to one another, no matter how long it takes, I'm sure the boat will continue to move faster again.

Some context: I've just been given some Paracetamol in my IV drip and it burns my veins like crazy. But I just want to ignore it, think positively and focus on how nice it is to be in the same boat as all of you. :ghug:

How long does the hit by a bus [emoji590] feeling last after infusion?

the only infusion I got was remicade and I was fairly tired for 2 or 3 days after it , hope you get a good result from yours ,

CYY , hope you feel better soon , at least you are in the best place to get help now , dont worry about money , just get well , and as for the using the portable potty , dont be embarrassed , just enjoy any rest you can get .

Doug and Sandy Im really happy that you got your insurance issue sorted , you really dont need that kind of upset when you are so sick .

How long does the hit by a bus [emoji590] feeling last after infusion?
It lasted 3 days for my husband, Kirsty. All he did was sleep! But on the 4th day, he sat up like a jack in the box. It's been uphill ever since, touch wood! I hope remicade is your miracle medicine too :)

CYY, your boat analogy reminds me of when my oldest niece was a little girl. Her mother (my sister-in-law) and I went for a paddleboat ride, and as we adults paddled, we let my niece steer the boat. She was only about 3 or 4 years old at the time, just a small child, so she of course steered us in a circle and we went nowhere. :p I hope the IBD boat you talked about isn't also going around in circles! Some days it sure feels that way.

But, I will say, my sister-in-law and I laughed hysterically at my niece's steering antics, so at least it was a fun boat ride even if we didn't actually go anywhere. So maybe that's about right. You guys on the forum are all wonderful and I'm so thankful for all of you, even though we're all in a crappy situation together. So maybe the boat analogy is a good one after all, even if we're just going in circles. ;)

Tony, how's the pred taper going? I tapered to 7 mg as of this morning. It's only been a couple of hours so it's too early to tell whether or not my body is going to accept or reject this taper. I'm hopeful, though. I was okay at 7.5 mg so I think 7 should be okay too.

How long does the hit by a bus [emoji590] feeling last after infusion?

For my Entyvio infusions that feeling lasts 2-3 days. :stinks:
I've been told that will go away over time. I'm not sure if you remember Jessi, who use to be on the forum. She has that feeling with Remicade every time she has an infusion. And she has been on Remicade for years.

Hi Cat Im down to 4mg but im having a few problems with increased output from my rectal stump , when I had my colectomy the surgeon left the last few inches of the colon and that seems to be getting more active as I decrease the pred ,
I'm seeing my surgeon on the 23rd of this month so hopefully he will have some advice ,
Good luck with the 7mg , hope you can get off the poison pred soon .

I know right....that darn truck backed over me and ran over me again. Weird would love to know why it happens....time to research. Thought I might avoid that feeling as Entyvio is such a different drug than Remicade....guess not. Oh well Deep Space Nine marathon.

Hey guys, it's day 3 of me being in hospital. Just wanted to thank everyone here (once again) for all the support and encouragement. I feel so fortunate to have got to know you guys. One of the nurses told me that I went to sleep yesterday with a smile on my face ^^

So it's 6.28 in the morning now and I've been awake for about an hour and a half. A nurse has just given me some Paracetamol and I find that I'm unable to get back to sleep again. I guess that means that I'll be sleeping quite a bit throughout the day XD

A second nurse has just came in to take my blood pressure. My blood pressure has been really low for the past few days (80s/40s), so today's readings didn't surprise me. What was surprising, however, was that my pulse rate was only 58! My usual pulse rate is in the high 80s if not in the low 90s so this was quite an unusual sight. Even in the mornings. And I haven't even taken Atenolol yet. Strange...

Anyways, today is a brand new day and I hope it turns out great :)

CYY,

You are such a great person. Keep fighting the good fight my friend. I wish you lots of sleep and a speedy recovery. Your positive thinking will go a long way. I'll be around for quite a while as it is 3:30 pm here. Maybe if you are awake and bored we can geek out about electronics or something.

Your friend who cares,

cmack

after waiting 4 months for an urgent kidney appointment, I arrived at out patients to be told I was at the wrong out patients, the other one is at the other end of the hospital, arrived at the other one to be told, no not here, tried to page the specialist with no answer, I was getting a bit paranoid as I was now 30 mins late, finally found him in the room next to the waiting room, my doctor was worried as my kidney function was only 39%, but specialist said that's fine for only one kidney, so 4 months worry for nothing, don't you love the health system.

Oh my, Trev! That sounds like a wasted trip! :O

But, like what others have said, at least everything turned out fine. Better 4 months of worry before than 4 years of worry after

Well, after further investigation, by me. I found the infusion center actually used the correct billing code. My doctor's office used an old code that was used when Entyvio first came out. It is used for "unspecified biologics" and this code did not require a prior authorization. However, Entyvio now has its own code, and it does require a pre-authorization. Dr's office is fixing their blunder now. Hopefully they can get my 2 infusions covered with this pre-authorization.

Why does the patient, who knew nothing about medical billing codes, have to dive into this and figure out who made the error in the first place?

Hey Ron , at least you dont get to swallow the heavy metal today , but its not too bad now compared to years ago , you only have to swallow a small glass of it , best of luck when you do have the test .

Doug, it's ridiculous. We have to not only be our own advocates, but also experts in our illnesses and experts on the ins and outs of the healthcare and insurance system. It's like a full-time job! It really sucks having to be a professional patient and all that entails. I'm sorry you have to go through all this just to get the care that you should be entitled to and not have to shell out exorbitant amounts of money. It's such a crappy system. I hope you can get everything worked out without any more frustration.

I'm still feeling suspiciously well. Well enough to go to the gym several times this week. I even tapered my pred to 7 mg and am still feeling well. I still don't trust it - my guts are surely plotting something nasty for the near future. Or could it be that LDN has finally fully kicked in?? I've been on it for something like 3 months now. All I had read only said that it can take "weeks or months" to kick in, it wasn't more specific than that. Maybe 3 months is the magic number for LDN for me? Or maybe it's just a period of feeling well before the next awful thing comes along? I don't know. It's weirding me out. :p

Like, when my grandpa died, my grandma sadly said, "Who will I fight with now?" I'm feeling similar - since I'm feeling well, what will I complain about now? ;) Things are usually bad and I don't know how to deal with it when things are not bad! Hah.

That sounds like a song I should know - "Let the good times roll..." forget rest of song and who sings it.

[emoji367][emoji175]🖤

I just had a super weird coincidence happen. A bit of backstory first - I'm slightly obsessed with John Dillinger and like reading books about him. So I was reading a Dillinger book on my break at work earlier. Specifically, I was reading the part where Dillinger was in jail in Ohio and his gang came to bust him out, and they murdered the sherrif there in the process of busting Dillinger out - the sherrif's name was Jesse Sarber.

So, a co-worker walked past me as I was reading this, and he asked what I was reading. I showed him the cover of my book which just says "DILLINGER" in big letters. He said, "Oh, Dillinger! My great-uncle was Jesse Sarber." UM WHAT. I was like, I am literally reading about your great uncle RIGHT NOW. It was just so weird!

So, I'm feeling good, and having a Dillinger day. Winning! :)

I know! It's really odd. Now I kind of want to pester my co-worker with questions about his family, ha ha.

Everybody has somebody notable in their family, though. Since we can trace our family going back to some pilgrims who came over on the Mayflower, I can tell you that Alec Baldwin is a (very very very distant) cousin of mine because he descended from those same pilgrims. And my grandma's cousin was one of the real-life Untouchables - his name was Paul Robsky. We didn't even know about him until just recently.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Untouchables_(law_enforcement)

Cmack, yeah, I never actually met the guy but it sure sounds like a cool life he lived! I've been meaning to read his book, I have it at home, I just have to get around to reading it. We didn't learn that we had an Untouchable in the family until just a few years ago, and he died before I was born. Still, it's pretty cool.

CYY,

How are you doing? Are you out there?

Yup, I'm here. Was too tired and traumatised to provide an update yesterday. Sorry guys :')

Yesterday I didn't really do anything much. Just a bunch of failed IVs and more pricks to test my blood glucose level. After my second IV failed, I had to go into the procedure room to get a replacement done. Who knew that would take 2 whole hours! :O

6 needles inserted, 5 doctors who each poked me at least once, and 4 bandages. My veins look large although they are actually really tiny. And they sure do love running away from needles. So, the doctors think that they've got it, but all they've got is actually just some flesh. I've made a name for myself in the children's ward as the kid who has the runaway veins XD

I remembered this male doctor who came into the procedure room saying, "Are you sure? How hard can it be to find one FREAKING vein?!" Famous last words. He was the one that poked me twice. This is why I hate needles. Even my veins hate needles ^^;

So, today is a brand new day, and my IV seems to be surviving, although my hand is still swollen. The doctors have stopped the Azathioprine, and want to switch me to some form of injectable medication to keep the Crohn's under control, although they've not decided what medication yet. In addition, I've been allowed to drink a few cups of water and some clear broth, but not Modulen (I hate Modulen). Ooh, here comes breakfast :p

CYY,

I hate needles too! Yuck. They never get my veins either it takes 10 stabs or more. I hope you get someone who is better at IV's. I got sick of it and said, "could you please just get whoever is best at this?" All of a sudden a new nurse came and got it first try. WHEW!

Get your rest. You need it. I hope you feel better soon buddy. :dusty:

All the best,

cmack

Thanks, cmack! :D

Next time, I should ask for nurses instead of doctors XD

The last doctor came in with a hot glove (a surgical glove filled with hot water), took a half an hour to locate a vein, slap my wrists left right centre, put the hot glove on my cold clammy hand (ahh!) and finally pushed the needle in. And for the first time in my life, I was like, "YES! FINALLY!"

Oh, and the doctors just came in to check on me. "MTX outpatient" was the word that was muttered under their breaths quite a few times. I'll also be doing an X-Ray of my pancreas on Monday, so I guess the earliest I can be discharged in on Monday. Looks like it's going to be a long wait...

Ya I have those deep small veins too that they always fish around for too. I'm bruised all over my arms from my Monday treatments. I always said that I should get a tattoo on where the best place to draw blood. Always try to hydrate and they now have a vein finder that was used on me once which was cool.

I probably need some marker. I have small veins.

CYY,

The doctors usually suck with the simple stuff. LOL Speaking of long waits, for us it is always a long wait it seems. I feel for you. waiting is so hard when it comes to healthcare.

I had a boss one time that told the most useless guy in our department to go down the street to an insurance agent that he(the boss) knew and to ask for a longweight! The dude sat there for at least three or four hours before he realized it was a Long Wait! LOL.......Some people hey!

Smile more, you are awesome. Keep in touch if awake and bored.

Your bud,

cmack

Yeah, the doctors used the vein finder on me to find the last 3 veins too. But as to the accuracy of the vein finder, I can't really say :/

Some of my veins are quite visible to the naked eye, but they're way thinner than they look ._.

I switched jokes.... Ha

I was in the restaurant yesterday when I suddenly realized I desperately
needed to pass gas. The music was really, really loud, so I timed my
gas with the beat of the music.

After a couple of songs, I started to feel better. I finished my coffee,
and noticed that everybody was staring at me....

Then I suddenly remembered that I was listening to my iPod.

ok so what's a vein finder, I have never heard of one, my record was 12 jabs, but was beaten recently with 14 jabs to find a vein, including one it the foot, hurt like hell, once they filled a hot water bottle that was in a kids toy and sent me into the waiting room to nurse this toy until my veins showed themselves, still didn't work.

Trev,

That is just not cool when that happens. I feel for you bro! I always got the new ones that couldn't find a vein with a veinometer! (not yet produced) The stud finder points my way though LOL! HA!

CMACK, it's prob just my headache (hope it's not my general ditziness:shifty-t::ytongue:), but I didn't get your joke. I love a good joke tho.
Quick thoughts to share, can't stay long, just saying I got a lot done lately, feels good. This included taking apart a drawer slide and putting it back together after drawer in side table stuck shut, (and not from things jammed in drawer). Cleaned out drawer which led to polishing table extra well, vacuuming under table and couch, washing wall behind couch etc, doing lots of laundry, cleaning and organizing other things. Whew, I'm tired, no infusion involved! (Narcolepsy never helps, tho.)
Ron, I missed PT the other day after I slept in too. I think a lot of us could start an excessive sleepiness/fatigue club also.
I too fit in the hard to get a needle in the vein club. I have small veins that collapse and roll. Inherited from my mother. (It also doesn't help when I have had several IV steroid treatments. Destroys the veins further.) Sorry you have to deal with that on top of everything else, CYY. I also sure hope they get you even more comfortable, and a lot healthier.
Trysha, Carol, Shanen, Madhu. Mandy, etc. I hope you are doing well as you can. Cat, I am glad that you are doing well at present, and don't look a gift horse in the mouth, lol! 🐎
Trev, your experience sounds like something that would have given me a heart attack. I hope you have recovered from your harrowing experience. Kirsty, I think maybe the key to your problem is to quit stepping in front of buses, ha ha. I just wish things would go better for you.
CMACK and a bunch of you are right. I don't know what I would do without all of you. This place is my sanity. 🐤:rosette1::heart::sun: :ghug:
(Guess I stayed longer than I thought I would.)

achieved lots today, even finished my power supply (for technophobe's) 130 amps 12.5v used a server switch mode power supply for the base, digital amp and volt meters, used for charging my lipo batteries, also has usb. also fitted a cat door to our motorhome, our useless cat went though it about 4 times while I was holding the cat door on the floor getting measurements, made it through to 2pm before fatigue dealt to me. I also finished a rocking plane ( like a rocking horse) for my granddaughter, I will get a pic tomorrow.

Hi all..cyy yep i also suffer from runaway veins...only person who gets them 1st time is the blood nurse at my gp's thus she is known as the vampire 😃
Hope you get well soon 💕

Everyone have a good day and keep smiling ☺☺ :ghug:

Ugh, I have to do laundry too. It's only the hubby and I, we don't have kids and we're not particularly messy people - so how on earth do we amass so much laundry?? I feel like I do laundry and then I blink and somehow the dirty laundry has piled up again. How do people with kids do it? People who have kids must just be doing loads of laundry 24 hours a day!

Sandy,I don't know what it says about poor Doug if we are you're sanity hahaha

CMACK's joke : he was passing gas to the beat of the music that only he could hear through his ipods ear attachments, hence the other diners could hear his melodious gas and not the music.

Insurance vent - I was notified (via some pricey doctor bills) that my daughter's pregnancy will NOT be covered even though she is on my policy and I pay the insane monthly premium in addition to the 5K deductible per member. How do they get away with this?? Ok - I'm done.

Shanen, that's awful, I don't know how they can do that. If it were me, I would call and ask some questions of the insurance company and fight to get her covered.

I do remember that when a friend of mine got pregnant, she had a high deductible too so she worked a lot of overtime and saved up several thousand dollars to cover her deductible. Then, she had the baby, and when she got the bill, it was double what she expected it to be. Turns out they charged her a separate deductible for the baby! As soon as that kid popped out, they immediately started charging him money. Ugh. This is such a screwed-up country when it comes to health care and paying for health care.

But, hey, I just paid off our IRS debt - mailed off the check today! Now I can focus on paying off my doctor/hospital bills from last year. After that I can focus on paying off hubby's student loan. Then I can pay off the house and the credit card debt. And then maybe someday when I'm 350 years old, I can retire like one minute before I die. Yay?

Cmack, yeah, I'm sure no country has a perfect healthcare system. But here, where people are made to choose between bankruptcy or medical treatment, that's just plain wrong. And horrible. I read a news article recently that said that more and more people who get diagnosed with cancer in the US are having to choose, treat the cancer but bankrupt the family and maybe become homeless? Or don't treat the cancer and die but at least your family can still live in a house and eat food? It's such a crappy system that punishes the sick. Like we're not already being punished enough by our own bodies. Ugh.

Sandy,I don't know what it says about poor Doug if we are you're sanity hahaha

CMACK's joke : he was passing gas to the beat of the music that only he could hear through his ipods ear attachments, hence the other diners could hear his melodious gas and not the music.

It was a different joke yesterday that I didn't get.

Oops, just saw CMACK wrote this

I switched jokes on you Sandy. The first one was poorly written. I found a better one that made more sense.

You know it makes my blood boil what you guys have to deal with in your health system. We call our NHS over here but when i hear the way you guys suffer. I say God bless the NHS.
Sorry if u got part of this msg as my keypad on fone went walk about again argh !!!

Love hugs n best wishes to you all 💕💞💝:ghug:

Trev,

That power supply makes me want one. Adding it to the list! Sounds cool buddy.

Funny about the cat door. :)

I hope the fatigue gets better soon. I know the feeling.

Good morning, everyone! How are all of you doing today?

I'm sorry about the insurance, Shanen. Hope that gets sorted out soon!

On another note, thanks for all the jokes everyone! Especially to Cmack and Sandy! You guys really made my morning! :D

To begin with, I apologise for not posting much in the second half of yesterday. I was having quite a bad headache and felt nauseous at night :(

So, as of dinner yesterday, I've been allowed to take soft foods as well as Modulen. Modulen, although not all that great tasting, seemed to agree with my body. But the porridge I had for dinner yesterday was yucky. No wonder I felt sick :/

My third IV failed (again) yesterday, so I was in the procedure room for a good hour or so trying to set a new one. Learning from my lesson, I asked for the most experienced nurse to help me. Little did I know that even the most experienced nurse would take two tries (that's one too many) just to get the IV going! I've definitely made a name for myself at the hospital XD

Fast forward to today, I woke up with four nurses staring at my fourth IV. It seems that it has started to show signs of failing and my hand's also beginning to swell. I shall not be too optimistic and hope that it can last till the end of today, because there's a very high chance that it's not going to even make it till lunchtime. I've got 2 more days left to finish my course of antibiotics, but with every passing day, the number of veins available dwindles. 23 holes in my skin so far, and I'm just sitting here, preparing myself for at least a 24th. There's probably going to be a 25th and a 26th, just saying :')

Breakfast should be coming anytime soon, and I hope it's good :p

CYY,

I sure hope they figure out something as simple as an IV. I'm glad I made you laugh. Laughter is good medicine. Enjoy the hospital food......or not. I'm around and I like to chat with you. I wish you success today and always.

Keep your chin up, you are a winner!

Your friend who cares,

CYY,

I sure hope they figure out something as simple as an IV. I'm glad I made you laugh. Laughter is good medicine. Enjoy the hospital food......or not. I'm around and I like to chat with you. I wish you success today and always.

Keep your chin up, you are a winner!

Your friend who cares,

cmack

Hey cmack,

I hope they figure me out too. Some of the nurses were saying that my veins were some of the worst veins that they've ever came across. Either my veins have to change (which is impossible), or they just have to up their game ;)

Breakfast is fish porridge. Smells nice, but tastes horrible D:

For the first time in my life, I've actually begged the nurse for Modulen XD

Anyways, I just took a look at the lunch menu, and it seems that lunch sounds way better than breakfast. As for dinner, I'm not so sure (I don't even understand the menu)... Oh well, if everything fails, at least I know that I still have Modulen :')

I put brown sugar on porridge. Fish? what were they thinking?.....And Yes they need to up their game for sure!

I think the definition of "porridge" in the western world differs from that of us Asians. In this part of the world, "porridge" refers to rice + water. It's perfectly fine to have fish in porridge here (chicken, braised peanuts and century eggs are other stuff that go well with porridge), and I've tasted great fish porridge before, just that this one sucks :/

CYY,

I hope you like this one.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went on a camping trip. After a good meal and a bottle of wine, they laid down for the night, and went to sleep. Some hours later, Holmes awoke and nudged his faithful friend. "Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see." Watson replied, "I see millions and millions of stars." "What does that tell you?" Watson pondered for a minute. "Astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies, and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo. Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful and that we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you?" Holmes was silent for a minute, then spoke. "It tells me that someone has stolen our tent."

CYY...you have a great attitude for someone so ill.
The Scots would be quite indignant for the term porridge being used with rice and not high quality oats.actually rice is kinder to your system right now....the fish I wnould find quite repulsive...especially so at breakfast time. You could use some better cuisine .
I am so sorry you are having such a bad time with the .bloodwork.......should not be so bad as that...wish I could come and do them...but I am now retired.
I don't remember ever missing a vein...when taking blood....don't know what's happening these days when so many people are complaining of repeat stabs....not good enough.Sounds like training has gone to pot..
Trev hope you are feeling better...that was terrible what you endured at your hospital visit.
Sandy ..you seem to having a tough time...feel better..
Cmack...you are a very cheery person to have around and I do like your repartee...
