Wow, Madhu! 2 feet! We're only getting about 8 inches of snow tops in this storm. It's just the wind and the lack of plowing that are bad right now (my city is notoriously cheap when it comes to plowing, they usually don't plow until the storm is over, and it's still snowing). Stay safe and warm!

Cmack, I do have to go out in this weather, but only to go home from work in a little bit. I'll drive very slowly, I always do in snow. Speaking of cars that run really well and are cheap on gas, that describes my current car perfectly. I drive a Toyota Echo, she's 16 years old with over 200,000 miles on the odometer and still running fine (with a few quirks, but all cars that old are going to have at least a few minor quirks). I'm thinking about maybe getting a Honda Fit soon as I do like tiny, efficient Japanese cars. But yeah, that Mustang...

Ron, good luck with the Entyvio! It took me months to get my GI to agree to put me on LDN, and then of course my insurance wouldn't pay for it (fortunately it's only about $40 per month, could be a lot worse). But it was worth the wait and the cost, I think it is helping and I still have hopes that it'll be the thing that keeps me into remission once I can finally get off of pred. I hope Entyvio is worth the wait for you too!

Cat I know what you mean. My apartment is the last one on a dead end street. Needless to say, it's not considered part of the city for the snow plows :)

The snow started this morning and has not stopped....in fact its coming down faster than ever....won't be getting out tomorrow or any time soon....sigh...housebound again..
I am sick of repeat migraines right now...must be the season.
Rehab finished early today ..snow stopped play...
I'm sorry for the birds..won't be able to feed them for a few days...hope someone else will help them else they won't survive the weather.
Hello CYY...where are you....come in ET.....hoping no news is good news...
We need some more jokes cmack....

I love St.Patrick!

I'm part Irish. You asked for it. Trysha,... here's my bawdy Irish limerick for the day.

Hi all. I'm in Hamilton this week working. Have next infusion on Tuesday.

My uncle passed away the other day. My Aunty passed away just a few months back. At least their souls are now together. My dads best mate also died on the same day. So it's been a bit hectic.

To everyone suffering from the blizzard today. Our forecast here in Utah is clear skies, about 70 F. We are concerned about potential flooding along streams and rivers, because our mountains have about 170% of average snowpack for this time of year. We don't need anymore storms.

Love and prayers for you Kirsty so sad for your loss.
Doug ..we are freezing and inundated with snow...lots of digging out and we are in for a second download of snow...
Not going out today.....too much slip sliding away...wouldn't want to get lost beneath the snow banks.....everywhere is closed anyway..kids are the most pleased....no school of course....snow days...good old freezing snow days..
Winning

Doug, wow, 70 degrees! It's only 10 degrees F here right now (might get as "warm" as 25 today). We got something like 7 or 8 inches of snow yesterday, yuck. I am definitely looking forward to spring!

I'm having a sad day today. I'm on LDN and sometimes it can cause vivid dreams. I had a dream last night that I was talking with one of my best friends. We hadn't talked in so long and I really missed him, and in my dream I couldn't remember why we hadn't talked in awhile. We were talking and catching up, and in my dream he was my age, 37. It was just so nice to talk to him again in this dream, he's one of my best friends ever and I miss him so much. Then I woke up, and as soon as I woke up I remembered why we hadn't talked in years - because he died when we were both 19. So that old grief feels a bit fresh today. I'm really missing my friend. It sounds dumb because I've had over 18 years to process this grief, but grief is really sinister and it never really goes away completely. The old saying says that time heals all wounds, but in my experience it also leaves a scar as it heals, and mine is hurting today.

CYY,

How are you? What's up bud?

Hello CYY...where are you....come in ET.....hoping no news is good news...

Hey Cmack, Trysha! Here I am :)

I got discharged in the late morning today. Hooray! \ ^^ /

I'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone of you here for all the well wishes, the jokes and the encouragement. Thanks Cmack, Ron, Trysha, Sandy, Cat and everyone else for being there for me when I needed it the most! Wouldn't be able to make it through without you guys and gals :ghug:

The MRCP results won't be out until tomorrow, but the preliminary results show that there are no blockages in my pancreatic ducts at all, so the doctors are quite sure that it was the Azathioprine that caused my pancreatitis. I'll be going back to the hospital tomorrow to collect the results, as well as to discuss how to go about from here. It seems that everyone would be present, from the team of doctors who cared for me at the ER to my GI doc. Even my dietitian is expected to make an appearance. If it isn't MTX then it's probably going to be biologics. Not sure which one yet though, but there's a higher chance of it being MTX. To be honest, I'm in no hurry to find out :/

CYY, I hope you get the results you're looking for and can get out of there very soon! The hospital is no fun at all and it sounds like you've had some rough times since being there. I hope you can find some good things to eat that adhere to your diet - I have been doing low-FODMAP myself (with a few cheats) and that has been a challenge at times too. But, it's worthwhile, because I think it's helping me. So I'm doing my best. Have you been having Modulen mostly or are you able to eat a bit?

Hey Cat, I've been doing my best to eat what I can, which is way more food than I usually eat. But since I've already paid for the food, I thought I might as well make good use of it. I've been trying to take Modulen as a supplement to my diet, but I found that I had to drink it for breakfast on Sunday because I just couldn't eat anything that was served. I'm supposed to be following the LOFFLEX diet, but I suspect that because of my recent flare up two weeks ago and the pancreatitis this week, my dietitian would want me to take a step back and do more Modulen instead of food. I'll need to go check with her tomorrow ._.

Anyways, being out of hospital is great, but then it hit me that I had a week's worth of schoolwork to catch up on D:

Thanks, Crohn's Disease! That's really helpful.

Great news CYY.....so after the big day tomorrow you will be able to settle into your schoolwork.....no excuses!
It is unusual for a young person to be getting pancreatitis so it looks like the Azathioprine caused it.however, the medics must make sure of their diagnosis and it looks like this was achieved.
You must now take some time to finish healing....just because you are out of hospital does not mean your body is completely better...these things usually take a little time...so don't go mad rushing around else you will end up back inside again...nobody wants that.
I expect your weather will be kinder to you than is ours and you will have some nice sunshine to bask in.
We are currently confined with heavy snowfalls...more expected today..so all schools and public institutions are closed....no mail and too much snow to get out and about.
The street crews do a great job in clearing major highways...Toronto has 900 snow ploughs
as well as auxiliary equipment.
Have a lovely day of freedom...it will feel good to you.
Trysha

CYY, so happy to hear you were able to get discharged! I hope you are able to further rest and heal at home before you have to worry about your school work. Keep us posted on what you find out tomorrow as far as diet and meds and Modulen and all that fun stuff. In the meantime, get some rest. :)

Everyone take care what ever the weather...
Cyy so glad you escaped the hospital. Take it easy n rest at home.

Love n best wishes to all my crohnie family :ghug: 💖💞💝💕

Trysha for March 17....St.Patricks Day.

I'm 50% Irish found out with Ancestry DNA. We have always loved the poems and Irish lace doilies from a relative passed down to me. Hope to go some day to there and Scotland where the other 1/4 of me came from, other 1/4 is Swedish. Really want to bring my mom there some day before it's too late. She's 78 this year but very healthy, she takes me to VA and appts and cares for me a lot.

I love finding out about my ancestry. Someday I want to do one of those ancestry DNA tests, but can't afford it right now. I do have an account (as does Doug) and like to go digging in records that they have collected to find out more if I can. Some of my ancestry has been traced back for many generations, and I know I have mostly Danish and English ancestry, but also a little French and even a tad of Italian thrown in there for good measure.
Kirsty, I'm so sorry about everything you have been going through and especially your recent losses at present. It seems you have one thing piled upon another. (Same with you Trysha. Hopefully things can settle down for you now once you dig out of the snow. And I sure appreciate your sensitivities to the birds and being able to feed them🐤.) CYY, I'm so very happy that you have been, shall we say, set free (YIPPEE), try not to stress too much about school and other things, just do the best you can, but don't overdo. Life has a way of going on. Take care of yourself and also enjoy the moment.
Cat, I can't believe it is still that cold there! (Oh, yes I can. It is Madison Wisconsin we are talking about.) We are well above average at present, in fact it should be the warmest day since winter, and I am enjoying it. (It is not unheard of for us to go back to snow this time of year.) To all of you who are experiencing such cold weather, and all of the snow so many of you are getting right now, stay warm and bundled up and enjoy a good book.
CMACK, stay away from high running rivers. You mentioned Alaska back there somewhere, and that is sure a dream of ours to take a cruise to Alaska up along the inside passageway and see the glacial fjords and whales, along with some side excursions. Then I would like to travel back thru Canada, ride on some of those glass domed train cars, and eventually see Banff National Park, etc. While I'm still dreaming, I might as well rent a convertible (a mustang, no less), so Doug and I can take a nice long leisurely drive along the Pacific northwest of the US before we come home.
(*shakes head to wake up from my dream here and back to reality*)
Well, here it is almost 2 p.m. and I am still in my pajamas. (The advantages of being home alone most of the day. If someone knocks at the door I won't answer it. My bad.) I guess I better go get dressed and get a few more things done.
Mandy, how is that bouncing baby boy? And Carol, are you doing okay? And Shannon, Trev, Madhu, and everyone else? I miss hearing what is going on in some of your lives.
( yep. Warm weather hit us. My spring allergies are going crazy. Achoo.)

Sandy, it's been such odd weather here lately, we had at least one day in February where it was 70 degrees. It's been sort of a rollercoaster weather-wise! It's been warm and everything melts, then it gets cold again and snows, then back to warm again, and so on. It's cold now but it's supposedly going to be almost 50 and rainy by Friday.

I agree, ancestry is cool. My parents both did those DNA tests, and they gave me a copy of theirs, so I can use their data to extrapolate a pretty good guesstimate of what my ancestry is. We thought we were mostly German, but it turns out we're actually mostly Scandinavian. My mom has done a ton of ancestry research on both her family and my dad's family, so we know a lot about our ancestors as well, including some cool stories. Like, we know that some of our ancestors about 12 generations ago came to America on the Mayflower. Our male ancestor actually got drunk and fell off the boat! He nearly drowned, but managed to grab onto a rope and was pulled to safety. Those were very sturdy people, our Mayflower pilgrims. The drunk guy who fell off the boat, his name was John Howland and he came over as basically an indentured servant to this older couple. There was also a 13 year old girl who came over on the Mayflower with her parents, the girl's name was Elizabeth Tilley. So Elizabeth's parents both died that first hard winter, and she became a ward of the people who John was serving. Then that couple also died, so John became the head of the household, and a few years later he married Elizabeth. Here's the part where they're very sturdy - they had 10 children, all of whom lived to adulthood and had children of their own. This is in the 1600s so that's basically unheard of back then! The childhood mortality rate was very high 400 years ago so they beat some very steep odds. And, both John and Elizabeth lived into their 80s, which is also pretty much unheard of for that time period (when surviving to age 30 was considered a ripe old age). So I think that's really cool. I just wish that more of those very sturdy genes had passed on to me, I could really use them. ;)

Mandy, I don't know if I have any wheels left at all on my wagon, but I keep stubbornly dragging it along anyway! :p Ha ha.

Wow thats a pretty cool background there Cat... ☺
Very interesting too, ye these sturdy genes would be an advantage to most of us id guess 💕

Mandy, I don't know if I have any wheels left at all on my wagon, but I keep stubbornly dragging it along anyway! :p Ha ha.

Cat my love iv lost all my wheels before now ...but i keep sticking them back on and rolling on... its got to done eh girl !! 😃

We had indentured servants too from Ireland. It was very common way to get passage over to America. It is amazing the history and stories you find backed up with real documentation. Almost all of our family have done the test except my dad passed away before we got his done. It does fluctuate some over 10 points on degrees of Irish/Scottish with my siblings which is funny....DNA is a fickle thing. Well time to go lay down again so drained.

If you can read this transmission it means you are alive! Congratulations for making it this far everybody. :) I think we must all have a little bit of sturdiness, defiance and determination in us.

GO TEAM!

Gi jane i feel you there girl. Most days i feel more drained than a sink...take easy

Cmack iv read the transmission so i guess im alive n kicking...tho i think my body is trying to tell me otherwise 😃

Cmack, I don't know if I have any of those things, I'm basically just pure stubbornness. :p I'm alive mostly out of spite at this point, ha ha.

Hi guys. I don't think we got 2 feet snow as predicted. Maybe 1 foot. Rest was hail and it's pretty icy out there. I'm thankful for the snow blower my landlord bought, so we don't have to shovel snow :)

In other news, I'm scared hubby's remission is staggering after just 1 year. He has been having symptoms the past 3 weeks and is on the can a lot. I freaked out this morning when we found he has lost about 9 lbs in 2 months :( he has an infusion this weekend and we are seeing his Dr next week. Hopefully it's temporary and our lives are not trampled upon again :( Could really use some of your good hearts with me now.

Sending you mine xo

Madhu, I'm sorry to hear it. The good news is, if this has only been going on for a few weeks, then hopefully it can be turned around quickly as well. Maybe a short course of prednisone or something along those lines. While you're waiting for the infusion and the doctor appointment, make sure he gets lots of rest and is eating bland, low-fiber foods and drinking a lot of fluids. When he sees the doctor, ask for blood work to be done right away and maybe stool tests as well (like fecal calprotectin). The sooner this can be gotten under control, presuming it is a flare, the better the outcome should be and the quicker he should get back into remission. Good luck! Let us know what happens with the infusion and the doctor appointment. Sending you a big virtual hug!

I'm still thinking about limericks. I think Trysha got me going. Since I have a beard I liked this one.

There was an old man with a beard.

who said, it is just as I feared!

Two owls and a hen,

four larks and a wren,

have all built their nests in my beard.

Madhu, I hope your husband feels better soon.

Here goes the Irish again,

A golfer who came from Calcutta
had thoughts much too pungent to utter
When his wife, as he found
after commencing a round
was whisking the eggs with his putter

I'm a thread hog, I know it.

This was my grandpa Mack's favorite poem. He was Scottish, thus the Mack in my name.

I’ve drank to your health in the taverns,
I’ve drank to your health in my home,
I’ve drank to your health so damn many times,
I’ve damn near ruined my own!

He was a fiery one.

(Just got interrupted with a little crisis from former foster son, but I think his staff has everything under control now. Hard on still there headache . I remember now, again, why we couldn't keep having him live with us, as much as we love him.)
Madhu, I'm still finishing sending you tons of love and prayers as well. It is so hard to watch our loved ones suffer isn't? Doug is not having his best day either, but I suspect it is more from changing meds and the crossover then anything, then hopefully all will be well. Hope they get your sweetheart back on track soon.
CMACK, we had several of us in the past participate on a limericks thread, but it kind of fizzled out. These were all for limericks we created ourselves. It was kind of fun, but I think personally I ran out of brain cells.
Cat and Jane, regarding ancestry the stories are what makes it come alive. You do indeed come from hardy stock, Cat! I have a lot of hard statistical data, my dad's side of the family was very analytical and record keepers (but not sharers), he was an electrical engineer by profession and physicist by training. Not a lot of cool stories, just data. On either side, I don't think I had anyone come across the Atlantic on the Mayflower, and I can't even find reference to anyone having fought in the Revolutionary War, as Doug can. (Sorry Brits!) But I have a few stories on my mothers side, such as that of Anne Marbury Hutchinson, for those of whom remember their early American history (perhaps my favorite ancestry story) as well as many stories of Mormon pioneers and leaders as Doug like the one I told yesterday, and we even found out that some of our ancestors were friends. How cool is that?

Doug's mostly English, with some Scottish thrown in. I'm having technical difficulties uploading the photos I mentioned yesterday, but coming soon.

Sandy,

Sorry to hear about the foster son. I hope he is OK. I also hope the same for you. I love your posts. You are a really fun person and I always loved history (except in grade school) LOL

You are a fun one, take good care,

cmack

Hello Madhu
You were luckier than us...we had 30cms snow....very blowy...still not cleared from the streets...main roads not too bad now...more snow tonight...........
..Sorry to hear about your husband, it's always worrying when symptoms appear....maybe it will be fixed faster than you think...let's hope so.
they may increase the Remicade temporarily or perhaps change the Meds if not working...just have to wait and see...the hardest thing..waiting.
Hopefully you will soon get to see the GI and get organized with a plan of action.
Feel better soon
Hugs
Trysha

Everything is fine with the foster son, he just has emotional meltdowns occasionally because is is cognitively and emotionally challenged (has a small brain, abandoned at birth, lived on the streets in Guatemala for four years with street people looking out after him, then a hospital for a year for malnutrition, then an orphanage until he was almost 8 when he was adopted by a family here in Utah who ended up not being able to handle him plus their other 5 kids, but they are good people. Not abused by them.) He doesn't trust many people when he is like that (if he does anyone), we are one of the "lucky ones." He really does have a good heart when not acting out though. He wanted me to tell his staff from his group home what they are doing wrong (as he hung up on me, he he). The problem was his out of control emotions. Calmed down now.

Sandy,

When I was growing up my parents also had foster kids and exchange students coming and going. Everybody is different. Makes it interesting for sure.

Hi CMack ".....springtime is usually around May time and then it moves into summer pretty quickly...I have known it to be freezing one week and the following week a heatwave...subtropical climate...
The flowers that bloom in the spring tra la...bring promise of merry sunshine!
Sandy...weather is improved right now and it is a sparkling white night time...very pretty
when we don't have to go out there slipsliding away...
It is very cold...but then it is still winter for us.
The rehab team called me today to say I would be picked up in the morning 9 am to go to the gym and exercise program.
It is a special car that is designed to take wheelchairs and walkers as well as people.
They are very considerate and diligent workers ...nobody is ever allowed to fall....not that I haven't tried .....ha ha..
Snow is forecast in which case it will be cancelled.........the program not the snow.
And now to sleep...perchance to dream...

Here's the pics of the monuments and house of Doug's great-great-grandfather I mentioned earlier. (Allie has a way of sneaking into every picture, ha ha. I think she's just too cute.)
20170314_193554_zpsarqt05gc.jpg

Sorry about the degradation of the writing on the monuments. It was either shrink it down more and make it totally illegible or take a huge amount of space for the pictures.

Sandy thank you that is so interesting...imagine being such an important part of history
Sleep is very elusive for me tonight....I think it's CMacks fault....keeping me awake.
No business like snow business....plenty here...city crews working through the night...
Winning.....maybe..

I hope you don't have to be to PT too early Trysha. It's going to be an early day for me as I have a lecture to attend (on the benefits of exercise) at 8, so therapy will be before and after. Hugs to all!

Sleep is overrated.....been up since about 6am Tuesday.....no plans to go to sleep until later this afternoon (Wednesday) once I get home from work. About 27 inches of snow at home, and more to possibly fall.....I've been at work since 11am Tues.....

Sandy, you mentioned the Revolutionary War, and my mom has traced us to at least one ancestor who fought in that war as well - in fact, he even wrote a diary about his experiences. I have read it several times, it's fascinating. At one point, the soldiers were freezing and starving, so they stole a cow from an old woman and butchered and cooked & ate it. They were initially reprimanded, but when George Washington found out about that, he not only bought the soldiers more food and said that they shouldn't be punished, but he also gave the old woman enough money to buy 2 new cows.

Yellowamc, this is last one wins - so whoever posts last, wins! When you posted, you won - until Ron posted, then he won. And now I'm posting so I win! Until the next person posts, then they win, and so on.

Yeah, definitely. I don't know a lot about Washington but I do like that story that my ancestor told in his diary. Here's specifically what my ancestor wrote - I believe my mom said this guy was my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather.

While in New Jersey near Morristown, our army suffered much for want of provision to satisfy the cravings of nature. The soldiers would often resort to theft; at one time they stole a cow belonging to a widow woman; after driving her to a by-place in the bushes they killed her and secreted the meat (which they cut from the carcass with their knives) in their tents. Search was made for the cow and the carcass found. Complaint was made to the officers. The soldiers were all paraded and search made for the meat which was found secreted in their tents, and punishment for theft awaited them. Washington, then at headquarters near by, heard of the fact and immediately countermanded the order for punishment, saying that his men should not by punished for a theft which hunger obliged them to commit. He then paid the widow money enough to buy her two cows.

Hey yellowamc, welcome to LOW! I'm sure we're all happy to have another member join us. The people here are really supportive and caring, so feel free to make yourself at home and share with us your ups and downs :)

Sleep is overrated.....
My school sent a team of students (including me) for a 30-hour national competition about a month ago. The 5 of us did not sleep a wink throughout the entire competition. We called ourselves "Not Sleeping Tonight" and our slogan was "Sleep is for the weak." Oh, those times... XD

I enjoyed the tales of history Sandy and Cat. It's quite cool to trace back the family tree and discover who your ancestors were. All I know about my ancestors were that they came from mainland China to settle down into the small fishing village of Singapore. I'm a fifth generation Singaporean, but then, every Singaporean today came from a migrant family, so... Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And... While the northern hemisphere is experiencing their cold winter days (spring should be coming soon, eh?), it's hot and humid here in tropical Singapore, as usual. I've never experienced snow in my entire life, although I've seen it in the movies umpteen times. Snow looks really beautiful, but I dislike cold weather :')

Anyways, even more updates from me. Saw my GI doc and the whole team of doctors that cared for me at the ER today. The MRCP came back normal, so the doctors have concluded that it was the Azathioprine that caused the pancreatitis, although they've long suspected it. I must be pretty unlucky because I fall into the 3% of the population who develop complications while on Azathioprine ._.

Moving forward, MTX, Remicade and Humira were being discussed today. They call it Methotrexate, Infliximab and Adalimumab where I live. My GI doc feels that it would be better to start me on MTX instead of the biologics so that he can save them for some serious flare in the future as I would not have build up antibodies against them. Keeping the treatment options open, you know. I've got an follow-up appointment with him this Friday.

In addition, the team of doctors at the ER have also referred me to a eye specialist and a joint specialist to look at any other extra intestinal manifestations that I might have developed as a result of Crohn's. I think it's supposed to be a good thing, but I've been burning through my appointment cards like nobody's business because of these appointments. Got issued my ninth one today. You should have seen the look of shock on the receptionist's face when I took out all my previous eight appointment cards XD

CYY, most everybody in the US is an immigrant, too - I mean, everybody who isn't Native American. I'm not Native American, all my ancestors came over from Europe generations ago. So it sounds to me like the US isn't all that different from Singapore (at least not in that regard anyway). It sounds like your family probably has some cool history as well!

Does your family speak Chinese (Mandarin?) in addition to English? There's a Chinese bakery near my house and I can only understand 2 words that they speak when I'm there - I know that "ni hao" means hello, and... I don't even know how to spell this, it sounds like "shuh shuh" and it means thank you. I love language and I'm fascinated in particular by Asian languages, but Chinese (especially the written part) seems so very difficult. I've been studying Korean the most, mainly because it has an alphabet so I can read and write in Korean! :p And I've spent some time in Japan, and while 2 of the 3 written parts of Japanese (katakana and hiragana) seem like I could learn them, I'd never be able to learn Kanji - and spoken Japanese is spoken so fast, I can't really wrap my head around that either! I can sometimes understand bits and pieces of spoken Korean - not much, though.

Oh, we have lots of snow in my area of the US in the winter! When we got our dog, she hadn't seen snow before. She lived the first 2 years of her life in California, and especially in Southern California they do not really get snow. So then she came here and her previous owners couldn't keep her, so she became my dog - and we found that she looooves snow! It's pretty much her favorite thing ever (well, besides treats). When it snows, she goes running all around in it, zooming as fast as she can. So my neighbors' yards all have lovely pristine un-touched snow, while my yard looks like it was trampled by a herd of beasts. Ha ha! Snow is pretty, but it's very cold, and I hate to drive in it - I have a tiny car and it sort of slips and slides all around in snowy or icy conditions.

Glad to hear you have a treatment plan and can get looked at for EIMs. Keep us posted on how that appointment goes! And I hope you continue to feel better.

Perhaps a little Irish joke?

I’ve got my own recipe for Irish stew: Get some meat, some potatoes and a lot of Guinness Stout. Drink all of the beer. Forget about the stew.

CMACK, I think it is cool that your family had foster kids. It's not for everyone, but it is just what we needed, and I think we helped the foster son in particular.
So much is going on, here, there, and everywhere I hardly know where to start.
I guess I just will start rambling.
Nooooooooooo, sleep is underrated! But spending all of that time and not getting rested is for the birds.
The good news is that my migraine is finally going away. The exercise actually seemed to help this time as opposed to Monday.
And Cat, I loved your George Washington story. I have a particular fondness for our founding fathers in the US, and of course George Washington is right up at or near the top of the list. I can't say for sure the absolute top because I also have a particular fondness for Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. I think Jefferson is my favorite.
Regarding weather, where a lot of you are experiencing snow and cold weather (I know not in Singapore or down under) we are having record-breaking high temps for this date, clear up to 75°f! (24°c). CYY, I have a great aunt from Denmark who came to visit here in Utah many years ago who had never experienced snow either. As Utah is notoriously known for, spring can bring either sun and heat or snow, and it changes almost hour by hour at times. It is not totally unusual to fluctuate 40 degrees in one day. (The joys of living in a desert.) When my great aunt was here, we planned a picnic up in a local Canyon, including watermelon which she had never had either, and wouldn't you know it, it started to snow on us. She had watermelon (a summer fruit) and snow for the first time on the same day!
Allie dog hates the snow, which is typical of their breed, they don't have much insulation for heat or cold. She sees it and if she is not desperate, she will turn and run back inside. Same with the rain.
Speaking of Allie, she is really not well today. She urinated all over the bed as she woke up (she has never, ever, urinated in the house) and then couldn't make it off bed without help. When Doug helped her down, she promptly threw up on the step into the living room. When she is not sleeping, she is crying and whining and trying to get my attention to tell me what is going on, asking me to fix whatever it is. I sure wish I could figure it out! The soonest the vet could see her is tomorrow and he is having to interrupt his lunch break to do so. I hope they can help the poor monkey (we also call her monkey or monkey butt ). They just ran a bunch of blood tests before she had her teeth worked on and all internal organ function looked good at the time. I hope she is okay. :( :( :(
CAN'T EVERYONE JUST GET WELL?

Sandy, I am glad your migraine is gone. I am sorry Allie is not well. I had a hard time getting Alex to go to the bathroom because with snow on the ground it is harder for him to mark his spot.😉

Sandy,

I love your posts! I hope Allie is OK. I call my old girl monkey mutt. LOL
It just so happens that we had an exchange student from Denmark when I was a 5' tall little monkey myself, her name was Hannah.

You be sure to take good care of each other, I like you folks. Between you and Cat, I find the history stories(and pictures) to be very amazing.

Look forward to more jokes, I'm feeling feisty. lol

All the very best,

cmack

Well, here I go...

An Irish priest is driving down the road and is pulled over for speeding.
The garda smells alcohol on the priest’s breath and then sees an empty wine bottle beside him. He asks the priest, “Sir, have you been drinking?”
The priest responds, “No officer, just water,”
The policeman asks, “Then why do I smell wine?”
The priest looks at the bottle and says, “The Good Lord! He’s done it again!”

OK maybe I should do better...

See they’ve found a cure for arthritis says O’Leary. About time replies O’Gill. Aye says O’Leary – it says here they take all your bones out, not only do you feel a lot better you also feel much more relaxed’:ghug:

Thanks Cat! Will keep you guys posted about how the treatment goes! :thumleft:

With 5 generations in Singapore, it sounds like I've got quite a lot of things that I can dig up :D

Yeah, my family speaks Mandarin in addition to English too. But it's not perfect Mandarin because we don't have the Chinese accent (like the native Mandarin speakers from mainland China). Singaporeans, especially those who have been here for at least two generations, often mix some Mandarin, Malay, Hokkien and Teochew (the latter two are Chinese dialects) into the English that we speak. And we have a special name for this mix of languages: Singlish XD

I used to study Mandarin as a language in secondary school, but ever since I've moved up to junior college this year, I've pretty much stopped learning it. I agree, written Chinese is difficult, and I find myself unable to construct really long and complex sentences. But I can understand short simple sentences fine though. At least that means that I can hold a basic conversation with a Mandarin-speaking person :')

I'd be happy to translate anything from Chinese if you ever need it, though I cannot guarantee the accuracy of my translations since I'm not a professional translator ^^'

It's quite cool that Westerners are picking up Asian languages. I don't even speak Korean or Japanese, but I do use a Japanese keyboard to create these cute emojis like this one(^∇^)and this one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As for snow, it sure does sound more dangerous than it looks. I hope your car serves you well these few months. I would gladly give you days and days of hot humid weather because we have enough of that here. Don't get me wrong, I love the sun, but we need more cold rainy days where I can roll into a ball in a corner of my bed and sleep to my heart's content XD

wow this year has gone fast, we are all packed and ready to head north for Kiwi fruit season again, this year I have to follow in the car, we used to tow our car behind the motorhome, but we have a new car that cant be A framed. might take a few days to get there as I only drive for 30-45 mins and then need a break, lucky we only have 5 hours travel. CYY I use google to translate Mandarin, but never sure how accurate it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well Madhu...at least it's not double Dutch.....ha ha..know how you feel though..
CYY. Your symbols are really neat and I had wondered about them ,thinking Chinese.its an interesting life where we all have different ways of doing things...makes the world go round..I just love the Singlish bit...
My languages are English,French and Latin... it used to be mandatory for proficiency in Latin. If you were going into medicine or allied fields.
Sadly now it is a dead language.
Cmack you are a cheery soul and it's good to have you around..you add a whole new dimension...
Sandy...I am worried for you with the poor little Allie....doesn't sound too good....hope things soon improve...
