I like the last one wins. So currently i win lol. Glad to be back. As far as ups and downs well its kinda like a roller coaster. Ups until 2 weeks ago its been 6 yrs since last surgey without major problems. Lol downs i was in hospital for 2 days with bowel obstruction. Doing better now slowly getting back on med regiment and infusion is due in two weeks so should be good again.

It looks like a quiet day here today. I took Allie to the vet and without running all of the expensive blood tests again and after reviewing her symptoms, the vet thinks she has a pinched nerve. He did run a urine culture which came back fine. He gave her anti-inflammatories and is going to call on Saturday to see how she is doing. If she has improved, we will attribute it to her bad back and a pinched nerve. If not improve, we will take her back for repeat blood work and whatever else she needs.
I'll be back later when can interact better. Headache back after going in bright sun. :(

Sandy...where are your sunglasses.?
Being prone to headaches needs glare reduction at all times...sunlight can trigger migraines..so can stress
Hope Allie feels better with medication...
Seems a quiet day around here...where has all the noise gone...CMack where are you?
. After physiotherapy, today we visited the greenhouse in our local park where they arrange springtime floral displays...it was so beautiful and the perfumes of the flowers intoxicating...especially those pink and blue hyacinths.
The theme was the ten provinces and two territories of Canada with their native flowers
There was. a lobster trap with a fish escaping from it...a fisherman in a boat on the water..all within a setting of green trees, flowering bushes and flowering tropical trees edged with lovely spring flowers.sharing their lovely perfumes....and a huge birthday cake made with red and white chrystanthemums..spectacular..
All within a beautiful flower garden setting.
These greenhouses are huge and in September each year there is a lovely flower show.
The greenhouse was iced allover amidst the snowbanks and the inside so warm and inviting...a refreshing break from winters blasts.
Feel better Mandy,and Sandy...
Winning

CYY, thanks for all the info about language, Singlish sounds about right with all of that going on! I guess I speak Spanglish, I studied Spanish in school but have forgotten a lot of it and was never really fluent to begin with. Korean I know some basic phrases and Japanese I know even less. But I do know the most important phrase in Japanese - Toire wa doko desu ka? Where is the bathroom? ;) Yes, I love Asian languages. I've watched a bunch of Korean dramas and some Japanese dramas, and I listen to both K-pop and J-pop. I even have a friend who is Korean-American, and I have the dubious honor of knowing more Korean words than she does (although she did introduce me to Korean food, which is mostly delicious and a lot of it is belly-friendly for me). I'm just starting to grasp how to form verbs in Korean. A lot of it is, take a noun and add "hae" or "haeyo" (the yo makes it more formal, I think). So sarang means love, and saranghae or saranghaeyo means I love you. Eotteoke means what/how, and eotteoke ah haeyo means what do I do? It's pretty fun being able to figure things like that out! And writing in Korean is fun too, there's an online Korean keyboard that I use here:

안녕 하세요 Annyeong haseyo! That means hello. :)

Sandy, I hope Allie is okay now. Give her extra cuddles for me.

For those who liked the history stories, here's another paragraph from my ancestor's Revolutionary War diary. If I had to have a chronic illness, I'm so thankful that it's in modern times and not several hundred years ago when they really had not much to speak of in the way of health care or doctors or hospitals. My ancestor's description sounds horrible.

While our Army was at Pixkill on the Hudson river, I was taken sick of the camp distemper which prevailed to an alarming degree. The Hospital where I lay was filled with the sick, many of whom died daily. What made our situation more distressing and the disease more fatal was the want of suitable and skillful nurses to take care of the sick. An old drunken Irishman and his wife were the only nurses that could be procured for that purpose and they spent more time in quarreling and drinking than in taking care of the sick, and as soon as the breath had left the body and sometimes before, they would rifle the pockets after money to buy whiskey with. My sickness was considered uncurable and the doctor told my friends that I could not live till morning; in this, however, he ws mistaken, for after a long and distressing disease I began to recover and finally regained my health to such a degree that I was able to return again to my duty in the army in about two months.

And another section from my ancestor about health care during the Revolutionary War:

While on our march returning, I was taken sick and unable to proceed; a soldier was left to take care of me until a wagon was sent from the army in which I was conveyed to the hospital or hut. Many of the soldiers, for want of suitable provision and clothing had become sick and were placed in this miserable hut or hospital , as it was called, with me, where we suffered more than I am able to describe. I was sick of a fever for a long time and my hair, which was very long and thick, all came off

LOW has been very quiet for a good half a day now. Where is everyone? *scratches chin*

Some updates from me (again). I'll be having my first jab of MTX this coming Monday afternoon, and my GI doc wants me to keep me under observation for a day, i.e. yet another hospitalisation ._.

Actually, I'll be having two jabs on Monday, since I'll also be taking some anti-nausea medicine (also in the form of a subcutaneous injection) two hours prior to my jab. I hope both of them don't hurt too much :/

Oh well, at least the doctors are doing something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sending support and hugs of encouragement to everyone (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ

Stay strong, guys! ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ

^ Sorry for spamming the text faces :')

Love the text faces, cyy. You are so creative. Hope the mtx works for you.

Hubby is still feeling sick. Tomo is remicade day. Praying and hoping it works out.

Hope everyone is feeling okay.

Sending support Madhu. It must be an awful worry for you.If anyone had to have crohns,I'm glad it's me, and not my darling.Appart from the obvious reasons,he's such a whinge at the best of times.hahaha.

A thought occurred to me today. At least 10 of our immediate neighbours have been so for between 40 and 50 years. They are people we know to talk to,and there are probably more that we are just on nodding terms with.My maternal grandparents,my parents, aunt uncle and cousins, and my brother all lived in the same area, within a 2 or 3 minute walk.We did move away for 10 months in the 70s,but couldn't wait to get back home.

I'm not very adventurous am I ?

Carol, nonsense, you take all sorts of adventures on your bicycle! Anyway, moving is not fun. I've lived in the same city for nearly 15 years and been in the same house for just over 8 years, and I'm not in any rush to move. Like, maybe ever. My house is small and older but it's just fine for me and hubby. And we like our neighbors (well, all except for Party House - there's a house just up the street where there are always loud parties and tons of people, but even so they're nice people and rushed over to help when we were moving some heavy stuff into our house so I don't dislike them as people, I'm just annoyed by all the parties they have). If you like your home and neighborhood and neighbors, I see no reason to move! You can still travel and bicycle and have plenty of adventures, even if your home base hasn't changed in a long time. :)

Madhu, good luck tomorrow. I hope the remicade infusion helps start to turn things around for your husband. I know you just want to take care of him, but make sure to take care of yourself as well. It sounds like such a stressful situation to be in so be kind to yourself.

CYY, good luck on Monday! I'm sorry you have to spend another day at the hospital, but hopefully this is all worth it and this will be the thing that gets you feeling better and into remission. And hopefully it's just one day in the hospital this time and not any longer than that!

Sandy, how's Allie today? I hope she's feeling a lot better. It's so worrying when our pets aren't feeling well! All my pets are getting older - my dog is 8.5 so I guess middle aged for a dog. My cat is nearly 14 so she's getting to be an older cat for sure. And I also have 2 gerbils who are both 2.5 years old (which is quite old for a gerbil). So yeah, I worry about all my pets as well even when they're healthy, just because of their ages.

Oh,I have moved at least 6-7 times, just always a stones throw from where we are now.Our last move was 2009 from directly opposite. We owned quite a big house, but that was the trouble. We lived there for almost 30 years and had it just as we wanted. But it was to big for just the two of us and a little dog.So we sold up and are now in a small rental. And we will be here forever.Well, forever for us.We have travelled a bit both here and abroad, but not extensively.I don't want you all to get the impression I'm boring.hahaha

Love the text faces, cyy. You are so creative. Hope the mtx works for you.

Hubby is still feeling sick. Tomo is remicade day. Praying and hoping it works out.

Hope everyone is feeling okay.
Hope he feels better soon.

Hi everybody. I got some very good news from my insurance company. They have agreed to cover the 2 infusions of Entyvio that have already been administered. Future infusions need to be through the specialty pharmacy (Acreedo). We are no longer at risk of owing the clinic $30,000.00 for 2 infusions. This is a big relief.

Hope everybody is doing well, or at least doing better, healthwise.

Just catching up on LOW so I can win again. :)
(This is in no particular order, sorry disjointed. )
Allie seems much better ... As long as we remember to give her her pill. (Opps. Better now again.)
Trysha, re the migraine (much better even still, I can finally say I think its All gone, YAYYYYYY!), I always wear glasses that have every type of glare protection and (fast) transition lenses (to sunglasses) protection. But yes, bright light is a definite trigger. I can tell you understand (unfortunately). And yes, CMACK, I've tried just about everything for migraines, including chiropractors (but also for other things at same time), preventative meds (contraindicated for those with stroke and heart problems), and even physical therapy at the same PT facility I go to now involving neck stretches, deep ultrasound therapy, ice, upper back and neck strengthening, and meditation. It seems that those who have had an atrial septal defect as I have (hole in the heart in certain area in heart basically), even if repaired surgically or just through a cath with a patch threaded to the heart through a vein in the leg as in my case, are just more susceptible to migraines. Oh well, what can you do?
Back to you Trysha, those gardens you mentioned sounded absolutely gorgeous! Canadians sure seem to have some lovely botanical gardens. I still remember Butchart Gardens, I think it was, in British Columbia, about 40 years ago. Some day I would like to see the gardens in Niagara, as well as have Doug see Niagara Falls. (I also want to see them again, again, saw them
almost 40 years ago also, another trip.)
Cat, you speak Spanglish, CYY Spinglish, does piglatin or double talk count? Those are my languages. Teehee. I absolutely LOVED your ancestor's journal extractions you have shared. Feel free to share more if you want. And CYY, I love your emoticons, and wondered how you made them. :) Sorry you have to go back in. :( Hopefully you don't have any ill effects from your therapy, and it only helps you feel better.

Madhu, hope you're hubby feels better soon also. GIJane, I hope you feel better soon too. I know you've not been well.
Hugs and support to all of you. You are all great people. :ghug:

I'm so pissed. Sorry. The doctor is out of office, his nurse doesn't come in on Fridays (?), his office promised me another nurse would call me - Nobody did! And now, hubby has a fever of 102. I'm scared they won't give him his remicade tomorrow :(

Madhu,

Have you tried Tylenol? None of us crohnies are allowed NSAID's....kinda sucks. I hope the fever goes down. That's pretty bad.

Best wishes,

cmack

Willows whiten aspens quiver.... little breezes dusk and shiver
Through the wave that runs forever by the island in the river
Flowing down to Camelot
Four grey walls and four grey towers overlook a space of flowers
And the silent isle embowers the Lady of Shalott.
A.Tennyson....Camelot.
The Lady of Shalott is a magical being who lives alone on an island upstream from King Arthur's Camelot.
Her business is to look at the world outside her castle windows, in a mirror and to weave
what she sees into a tapestry. She is forbidden by the magic to look at the outside world directly. One day she sees Sir Lancelot riding alone.Although she knows it is forbidden she looks out the window at him.The mirrors shatters ....the tapestry flies off on the wind and the Lady feels the power of her curse.

That's what I'm going to give him, cmack. It sucks for sure. Last time he took a Motrin, he learnt his lesson the hard way!

Sandy, if you're interested in a longer read, here's the link to the full transcription of my ancestor's Revolutionary War diary. I will warn you, however, that my mom transcribed it, and for some reason she used a terrible font (Comic Sans). It is a really interesting read, though, I'm so glad that my ancestor wrote a diary and that it survived so that I can get a glimpse of what his life must have been like.

Madhu, I hope your husband is well enough to have his infusion tomorrow! How frustrating not to be able to get ahold of the doctor or nurse, I would be mad as well. I really hope everything works out for tomorrow.

Hi Madhu....sorry to hear of all the problems you are having
When I had a fever of unknown origin 104 degrees on 4am admission.. I was in the emergency ward, isolated of course ...
what else...I was given 3 Tylenol every three hours for a whole day and a n IV Saline followed by glucose saline while they ran all the tests in the book plus an abdominal CT scan. They never did find the cause and I got better and went home late evening.
Perhaps you need to involve the ER for some expert care and diagnosis
It is very difficult to cope wit this on your own and I hope for a speedy diagnosis and recovery.
Hugs
Trysha

I have taken that in the past Ron for duodenal ulcer symptoms and it helped quench the fire.Dont see why it would cause a problem...but then everyone is different so it comes down to trial and error.Feel better

Ron, Pepto can actually help some types of IBD, particularly microscopic colitis. Keep in mind that it can cause dark stools, so don't be alarmed if you're having dark/black stools in the near future.

Cmack, glad you liked it! I find it really fascinating. I notice a lot of similarities between myself and my ancestor, like, we both get sick a lot. :p He really seemed to persevere through some awful situations, though, so that makes me want to be like him and persevere too. I'm not joining the army though! Hah.

Madhu, I am so sorry that happened to you. Sometimes I think they forget they are playing with people's lives when they do things like that. With that high of a fever, I would definitely involve the ER at this point given history and the fact that they didn't get back with you. I'll keep you and your husband in my prayers. Hugs.

Cat, I'm so excited to read that history! Haven't read it yet, but it is next. Doug was telling me about it, and i am excited about it.
Tomorrow I am going to a light breakfast and to hear a motivational talk with the ladies in my church in the morning. Then in the afternoon I get to go to a convention and luncheon for "DUP", or Daughters of Utah Pioneers, an international organization for those who have ancestors who crossed the plains before 1869 into Utah (before the railroad), where histories of persons, places and things are discussed. If you can't tell, I really am into this history stuff. Tomorrow will be a busy day, but fun day, what I am calling a "brunch and lunch."
Ron, I hope your tummy feels better too.

Love the text faces, cyy. You are so creative. Hope the mtx works for you.

I hope good things for you,CYY

CYY, good luck on Monday! I'm sorry you have to spend another day at the hospital, but hopefully this is all worth it and this will be the thing that gets you feeling better and into remission. And hopefully it's just one day in the hospital this time and not any longer than that!

Aww, you guys and gals are all so sweet. Thanks everyone! :ghug:

Being part of the unlucky 3% of people who cannot tolerate Azathioprine, I really do hope MTX does wonders for me. If this carries on, I'm slowly running out of options. ._.

Anyways, hope everyone is feeling better. Sending some support and encouragement to you and your husband, Madhu. Hope the fever goes down and he gets his Remicade infusion today. Stay strong!

I'm glad the insurance has worked out for you, Doug. Good for you! :D

Cool stories about your ancestral history that you shared, Cat and Sandy. I should go and dig up mine when I get the time. :)

Here's a shoutout to GI Jane, who hasn't been here for a while. Get well soon! <3

P.S. For those who are wondering, you can find all sorts of text faces online ;)

I use Pepto Bismol probably twice a week. I wondered if it was similar to aspirin which I shouldn't use.

I'm just recovering after a week away working in Hamilton. I had bloods today ready for next loading dose on Tuesday. PT on Monday, hospital Tuesday recover Wednesday. Work Thursday and Friday. Hopefully.

Thanks everyone. The Tylenol worked! I was going to go to the ER otherwise.

You guys are awesome. Thanks for the support :)

Ron...peptobismol is bismuth subsalicylate......aspirin is entirely different in formulation and is salicylic acid.Their modes of action are also different....peptobismol works directly on the GI tract to speedily reduce inflammation...whereas aspirin will further irritate inflamed and sensitive tissue and can cause further mucosal damage.
Mandy... thank you for your kind words and hope youfeel better soon
Madhu..so glad things have improved but a checkup is still in order.
.Kirsty..I see our schedules can be similar...I don't know where the time goes and sometimes I feel like an experimental station...however I am feeling better these days and hope you will too.

Thank you all.I better mention my "old"chronie family too otherwise they'll think I no longer care about them.Hope you know I love you all.Hugs.

Carol good job you mentioned your old crohnie family. Or i would have had come over to your neck of the woods and smack your legs :rof:.

Fuzz,

You are too funny! I would never mess with you though. When we were kids we used to smack each other with thin willow branches right in the legs. Yeah ouch! Never again.

CYY, you get to be a senior member once you've got 100 posts. :) Congrats on getting to 100!

I've been having a lazy day because my guts haven't been great for the past few days. So I've spent the day playing video games and crafting. I finished up making a bracelet and a necklace out of chain maille - I think I'm going to give those to my 2 older nieces. And I'm crocheting yet another blanket. :p This one is in shades of red. I can't not be productive, even when I'm not feeling great.

My heart is like a singing bird Whose nest is in a watered shoot
My heart is like an apple tree whose boughs are bent with thick set fruit
My heart is like a rainbow shell that paddles in a halcyon sea
My heart is gladder than all these
Because my love has come to me

Mia is 3 months old. She visited today.

Speaking from beneath the snowdrifts I envy you with all that lovely warmth and sunshine plus lovely canine friends....and sea breezes to boot....
i still miss my lovely dog....
Good to see you relaxing Kirstie

The wife and I went to see a marriage guidance councilor today. He asked me if I knew what her favourite flower was.
I held her hand and looked lovingly into her eyes and replied.
I know this one its self raising isn't it?

Carol good job you mentioned your old crohnie family. Or i would have had come over to your neck of the woods and smack your legs :rof:.

Haa,you'll have to catch me first......Having read through my soppy post I realise it sounds more like a farewell speech than an appreciation post.
But I'm not going anywhere soon........I hope.;)

Oh Kirsty,I almost went into meltdown when I saw Mia's pic. Before Alfie I had five GSDs,
three together at one time, plus a Jack Russel.I was in my 30s then and walked miles each day with them.We went to classes and they were so good.I felt proud walking them because I'm such a shorty and I know people wondered how I managed them so well.Mind you, they did have their moments, especially as pups.Oh, the tales I could bore you all with.hahaha

Carol, it struck me as sounding a little like an Oscars acceptance speech. :p "I'd like to thank the academy, my parents, the crohn's forum..."

Cat-a-Tonic: I learned all martial arts terms in Korean dojang (place where one trains), dobok dahnjung (fix your uniform), cha ryuht (attention) and such. Interesting time taking TaeKwonDo instead of Karate for a couple years. Also, love the family history information as I do Ancestry.com with mine and alway love when there is something in a relative's own hand.

Trysha: that sounds beautiful the greenhouse. We finally have sun here in Seattle, even though bird bath is frozen over. It's been fun watching the crows this morning. Alway pretty here at my cabin. Might go to hospital after hot tub though so trying to soak up some of the vitamin D first to my husbands dismay.

CYY: cool text faces love it. Sorry about another hospitalization hope everything gets ok...we should just have our own rooms always set up huh lol.

Scottsma: Wow that's a long time in the same place. Is always a foreign term for me as I've moved over 26 times. Hoping our next move in the next couple moves will be our final....got to love the military. I get twitchy about moving after a couple years...must be gypsy in our family blood...that tiny bit of Romanian/Span noted on my DNA blood work lol.

DougUte: Dang had no idea the Entyvio treatments cost so much, guess I should be grateful mine is covered.

Aura: how do you post pictures? Such a cutie.

SandyUte: thanks ya hoping to feel better soon...might go in hospital today so weak...and now have bright yellow diarrhea hum can't remember what that means...time to go look up.
