Oh Sandy,I hope you feel much better after that vent,My heart goes out to you.You and Doug should be settling down to an enjoyable retirement, but unfortunately you have Dave sharing your life now.And as for your friend, well what can I say ? It's always good people who are put upon, because being good opens the door to those who will take advantage.I really hope things will get better for you.I mean it's not as though you and Doug are fighting fit is it.You must learn to toughen up and learn to say "NO" and also turn your back on those who cause you upset and stress (like I do) You know it makes sense.Sending great big mushy hugs to you.x

Woke up with the flu... Is is just me or is being actually normally "sick" almost a nice break from the usual chronic illness monotony? :p Not happy about the flu, of course, but at least it's different.

Izzie I found that Melatonin taken at bedtime can help with 'spinning mind syndrome' when my head does not want to go into shutdown mode. Good sleep can be a fleeting thing with the meds at times.

I hope you feel better soon, Izzie. Wish the same for you too, Sandy. Hope everyone else is well.

Oh Sandy i know how you feel. I have one of those friends!!
Sorry your house guest is causing such upset too. Why when people are in others homes do they not respect the ownners rules wishes etc..i know i would n do so.
Life is hard enough without added stress. Bigest hugs n loves. 💞💕

Welcome izzy ☺💕
Hope you feel better soon and can catch up on some of the sleep you missed 💞

Love n hugs to all 💞💞

How are you Ron ? I know you're grieving of course.I just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you at this sad time.x

There was trouble with infusion pre authorization again, so there was no infusion last weekend. Yesterday they told me that it's all okay now, so hopefully we will have the infusion this weekend. I'm so tired.

My best to all.

You're really dreading those flies Buff,I can tell....;)
I do, around here they are an unrelenting force that can psychologically drive a person insane. If I could I would skip through June and July and tear those months off the calendar and burn them in the smudge pot as repellent. I'm quite house bound during those months, and still get them in the house. Worse at night when mosquitoes buzz the bedroom.

Alternatively, I'd love to win the lottery and go travel and see the world during those two months. From what Ron describes Austrailia would be a country to visit. I would also toss in April and May, but those are firewood cutting months when I make like a beaver for the winter ahead.

I'm sorry to hear that they messed up you husbands infusion Madhu. I pray they get it done as they said would happen. I'm thinking of you folks. Everyone, I hope your day/night is as good as possible. Cheers!

Agree

Izzie, I'm not surprised you woke up with
the flu if you have been stressed (mind racing and not sleeping). The flu seems to be going around everywhere in the world, and stress lowers the immune system even more. Get well soon and get some good rest.
Oh Madhu, I also hope things go smoothly on the entyvio front for you and your hubby from now on. I hate dealing with insurance companies.
Ron, I've also been thinking of you at this tender time. My heart and prayers go out to you.
Mandy, I'm sorry you also have one of those friends --- so draining.
Bufford, I could almost see and feel those flies and mosquitos, and even have a sense of what your area must look and smell like in those months... I'll come swat a few of those torturous flies with you. It'll do us both good emotionally, even tho a hopeless feat... (Oh! And we have some neighbors in Australia right now, they just spent a couple weeks prior in New Zealand. Hi Trev and Kirsty! Traveling sounds really nice! I've got to get Doug out of the US at least once in his lifetime.)
Carol, I can almost hear you saying "I told you so" without you saying "I told you so." You were far too polite to even "say so" in the first place. :) I appreciate you letting me learn from my own mistakes. You're correct, I need to learn to say no, something I should have learned at least somewhat better by now. And yes, I did feel a little better after my vent, and feel even better still to know Doug and I are going on a mini camping trip to (even more) southern Utah in just over a week, with Dave being bused down to his sister's house for a few days. We will be competing in a bass fishing tournament (thru the "Kayak Fishing Utah" group we belong to), even though we've only fished for trout in the past (I've never even caught a bass ). We've been reading up on and watching YouTube videos on how to bass fish. A gentleman at Cabellas (outdoor sporting goods store) gave us some great pointers yesterday also. Fishing and kayaking is my little fantasy world right now.
Even better, we got a totally unexpected rather large check in the mail yesterday, a class action suit settlement check (we didn't even know there was one, but they were apparently court ordered to refund a bunch of money we paid for services a few years back, to us and others, even if we didn't enter the law suit personally.)
Back to reality (~sigh~), Doug had his entyvio infusion this morning and has now crashed on the couch, and we have to take Dave to an appointment this afternoon with the state rehab office, in hopes of them helping him with getting a little part time job (he would be happier, as would we.) There is a good chance he will have to have (and they will provide) a job coach at first, but there are things out there to get him to do more than live vicariously thru the same old tv series, over and over and over, that remind him of his childhood. Sometimes I wonder how much reality he is actually in. But I feel for him too, it has to be a very lonely existence. And underneath everything, he really is a good person. I just don't want to live with him. (Or him with us.)
Have a blessed day everyone.

Thanks, Sandy, for the sweet words. Good luck in the competition. Madhu, I recently had some of the same issues with insurance and entvio. Hope things are better.

Thanks everyone. Sandy, I know how family can really get on your nerves. Can't imagine living with one for good. Vent away, all you want.

Ron, hope you're feeling better now xx

Sandy,I'm very happy you're going to get a fishing break soon. You really do need time to yourselves. And fingers x'd Dave gets something to keep him busy and interested.
It's the meteological 1st day of Spring today, but you wouldn't know it.Seems like the last five years of virtually snowless winters has decided to remind us not to be so smug. It's even worse when we're not used to it,every thing's in meltdown except the snow and ice.But all's well here.Going to snuggle down and hopefully finish my present reading material, then I can go through the other 40+ and decide which ones next.

The Beast from the East has been in the news over here with the tough weather going on in the UK and most of Europe. All the cold air is over on one side of the world while we are stuck in rather mild weather. Its been good here, but my nephew's winter season for his cabin has been ruined by the early melt. The ice is too dangerous to safely cross the lakes further south.

😃 that reminds me of the saying...its better to let people think you're an idiot than open your mouth n prove it !!

Sandy enjoy your break. Hope you catch plenty of fish 💞

Madhu hope this insurance malaky is sorted soon. 💞

Carol iv a shed load of books if you get through yours during this snowy time. Xx

Ron...just hugs n love to you my friend 💝

Wishing everyone well n sending love 💞💕

Madhu ...hope the infusion problems have now been resolved..how worrying for you both
Sandy...enjoy your fishing expedition and relax both of you.
Mandy...hope you are enjoying our snow! It only comes once a year even if it stays around
For a few months. Its crazy out there right now...howling blizzard..I’m not going out in it....
Ron....hugs and prayers for you..
Carol...have you read your fortybooks yet....
Cmack...I enjoyed your deep thought...got me 💭 thinking......
Winning....

Snowflakes are falling...faster and faster
Whirling and swirling the flakes in a row
Snow banks are forming...whiter and whiter
Sculpting the landscapes in beauty to show
The powers of Nature .....and howling winds blow
Trysha

Trysha we usualy only get a wee bit of snow round here and that causes trouble. In parts ie work its got to about a foot deep 😦 so its bloody chaos. Hate driving in this snow. Today iv woke to it not snowing but icy high winds. Going to be a skating rink on the mushy snowy roads now. Least till it gets a wee warmer during the day. Praying i get through to work n back safely. 💕
Be careful in your snow hun x

Thanks Chris.. no i drive a manuel. Ye its iffy out there. Just getting ready to leave for work. Thankfully its only minus 1c at mo so hoping its not to icy. Tho the windchill may make it a lot colder.

Hello Grumpy nice to hear from you
I think everyone’s gone to bed or watching olympics closure..
How are you ....enjoying winter like we all are....???

Hello All, yes Trysha there is a Santa Claus and I'm sure that he was supposed to come in December, but in December our weather was wonderful and last weekend we had snow - go figure - snow in Victoria BC in February. But it is lovely today so I guess it is all relative, I guess I could live in Alberta still; they are expecting 25cm of snow this weekend.:rof: I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend and that you are all feeling well. Winning - at this - for now.

Mandy and all you motorists.

Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.

Off for a walk soon to see the wild North Sea crashing on the shore. It's always pretty awe inspiring.Dear hubby was indoors most of yesterday so is going stir crazy. He's actually faffing about out the back at the mo. in 0c degs. grey and blustry.I'll have to get some employment for, him even though he's 72 this month.

I wield the flail of the lashing hail
And whiten the sea plains under
And then again I dissolve it in rain
And laugh as I pass it in thunder
Shelley PB

Carol I would love to join you on the seashore and watch the breakers rolling and roaring...
Need warm clothes for this activity...but how refreshing to be out and about.
Happy snow days Everyone
Careful driving Mandy...be safe

Hi all. Roads were pretty good today....nearly back to normal!! go figure. The wind has been hellish cold tho. Off this weekend so thats good. Only 1 more week in work then off for a week ☺

Love n hugs 💕💝

Thanks everyone. We just got delivery of remicade and other meds. Hope everything goes fine tomorrow.

Mandy, do you like the snow? I'm glad to be far from it now. Lol. It's pretty to look at but not a pretty sight to waddle around in it [emoji16]

Glad things are okay so far Mandy, stay safe. You drive a manual transmission, that's my kind of lady! ;) Good luck to you Madhu, hoping all goes along well. Hello to everyone else, I'm thinking of you. Cheers! :)

Madhu i do like snow it looks lovely when it 1st lands...tho driving in it is not my favourite pasttime 😨. Glad the meds are sorted ☺💕

Chris i much prefer the manual..i feel like im driving the car not the car kinda driving me, if you get my meaning...💕

Infusion done successfully. The nurse was super nice. Now I don't have to think about this for the next 5-6 weeks :dusty:

So glad that finally worked out. Hopefully in the future things go a lot smoother getting this done. It should now insurance is in place. 💜

Arrrgggh. It's confirmed, about three days ago I could tell I was starting a UTI, thought I got rid of most of it at one point on my own by drinking tons of extra water, but now I have a kidney infection to go alone with it (went to urgent care at our family clinic this morning). Now have 12 days of antibiotics and a numbing agent. At least I should be feeling better by the time our kayak camping trip starts.

Hahaha :rof:

I love a good laugh, and yes those Texans are tough folk. But the new saying should be "don't mess with Madhu." You're one tough cookie yourself, Madhu, and doesn't that have a nice ring to it?

Thanks. Stomach is better than yesterday

Rain has turned the streets to a dirty slush but we're going to walk through the park to the weekend market.I doubt there'll be many stalls today,as most of the sellers are from inland towns and the roads have been impassable.I mean who would want to be up at 5am to travel 30-40 miles or more to stand all day in an unheated Victorian railway station, hoping for customers, then do the whole thing in reverse at the end of the day,not forgetting the packing, unpacking, packing and unpacking again. I hope the book people are not there as my shelves are buckling with "must read" books.Perusing and buying books is the only thing I have no willpower over. And chocolate.:)

Sandyfeel better soon me darlin'.

Lovely sunshine today makes for an attractive landscape with the snow receding.
Went to the shores of Lake Ontario yesterday....a friend was driving...could not resist the invitation.
We stood there togged up in winter gear...windproof clothes...the wind was very icy..and we watched the breakers rolling over and over ....ever expanding in height...quite awesome
to partake of Nature’s winter scenes.
We then took off to the shoreline restaurant for a cup of tea and continued watching the water 🦅 birds ceaseless activities.
Such a lovely freezing cold afternoon......great freedom from crowds just a few people out.
Plenty of customers for fish and chips.......though not for me.
Sandy...hope you are feeling a bit better
Ron...thinking of you..lots of prayers
Mandy ..you seem to have so much energy where does it come from..
Madhu..glad that your life is less chaotic now the Meds have been organized.
Carol..you are so lucky to have the sea close by....all those fresh sea breezes..and the access to so many 📚 books....my favourite pastime.
Chris..hope you are having a good Sunday..
Have a good day Everyone...

Two trees down. The big nasty tree came down in a satisfying slow motion display of cracking wood and snapping branches nicely away from the cabin and generator house. It will be a big source of firewood. Since I was all warmed up and my neighbor and I were having a good time I dropped the other dead spruce. I slept like a log last night.
Madhu glad to hear the Remicade came through, and Sandy I hope your health improves soon. If anything a kayak trip should be a cure all, nothing like getting out on the water for a camping trip.

Trysha.. so much energy??im like a wet dish cloth at the end of each day. I run on fumes most of the time to be honest. If i could sit on my bum all day i would ☺💕

Bufford glad you have firewood aplenty. Glad you slept like a log.. just hope you didnt wake up in the fireplace 😃💕

Mandy...what kind of fumes and where do you get them.....maybe I could use some...
Wake up in the fireplace....ha ha...most amusing..hope you wouldn’t do that...
Bufford..don't set the world on fire with all that wood
Another sunny day but so cold ...instant iceberg if you stand still....

Raining here, followed by a winter storm predicted to drop 9-12 inches of wet and heavy snow. Commuting should get quite interesting the next couple of days. I'm still getting over the flu and all the lovely side effects antibiotics created with Crohns. Enough self pity - desperately anticipating spring in my part of the world. :rosette1:

Going kayak fishing in southern Utah. Where the temperature ours significantly warmer.

Going kayak fishing in southern Utah. Where the temperature [is] significantly warmer.

Hope you can get over your nasty cold by then, Doug (and please don't give it to me.) Knowing us, though, we'll be going no matter what. Aren't you glad I ordered us some water proof socks today to keep our toes warm for when getting in and out of the yaks? Can't wait myself.

Shanen, the flu seems to take forever to get over (Crohn's or not, I'm sure having Crohn's doesn't help and greatly complicates things), but hoping you see spring sooner than later, both figuratively and literally.

Same with all of you. Cant wait to hear reports of bike rides on little Blackie, and warmer weather activities for all. We've had high winds followed by snow here as well, but now clear skies for the rest of the week. (Even in southern Utah, hopefully.)
Your adventures to Lake Ontario sounded lovely, Trysha, and hearing your description plus Carol's talk of the seashore, I can't wait until Doug and I can someday get to a larger body of water (a seashore would be nice) where we can watch the waves break ... never been to a seashore with Doug. I can smell the salt in the air from here...
Well, back to reality for me.
Goodnight all.

I did try to get chains for Lil' Blackie buy the man in the shop thought I was joking.Snow has gone from here leaving the streets and my windows filthy.A good downpour will soon clean things up.Inland villages are still cut off though,so it's not over yet,and the sky has been a uniform grey for over a week. The birds were singing as we walked through the park yesterday ,so despite the setback,Spring is on the way.The book man wasn't at the market but I made up for it by buying chocolate, then felt annoyed with myself for doing so.Will have to peddle much harder and faster and longer.Hoping to get out on the bikes ASAP...Might put some chocolate in my bag.(to keep my energy levels up,you understand)

Doctors appointment today, more disability papers, blah, blah! ... I'll be happy when it's over for the day. I hope everybody has a good one! :)

Just found out that since I am sensitive to gluten that just by touching Alex's food it could affect me.

Wow Ron. Allergies and sensitivities are just the worst, aren't they?

I went for a walk to a nearby park this morning. Such a beautiful Korean setting with a not so big walking trail. It had a pond with ducks and swans in it. So beautiful [emoji7]

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Trysha i think they are exhaust fumes i run on....as i am mostly exhausted!!! If you want il send you some ☺.💞

Shanen i hope you feel better soon 💞

Sandy if Doug gives you his cold,i'll come and smack his legs 😃💕

Madhu glad you enjoyed the walk. Sounds lovely 💝

Chris hope all went well 💕

Carol i can tell your pining for blackie. Hope you 2 are reunited soon 💝 x

Ron what are we doing to do with you ??? What time your having my friend. Hang in there 💞

Better health to you all . Love n hugs :ghug: 💕💝💞

Mandy...you are very witty...
DougandSandy...get over that cold soon...careful don’t give it to your dog...
Chris..hope everything went well for you today
Shanen...sorry to hear youhad the flu....feel better soon
Madhu..that sounds like a lovely park to relax and enjoy...
Carol...there’s nothing more beautiful than the birds singing...English birds have a different song so lovely...Sorry to hear you have no bike chains...are they not fixable with a bit of first aid ?
It’s a perfect springlike day today...rather cold lovely sun...tomorrows forecast ⛄❄️ snow.
Winning....

Sorry to hear about the cold Sandy, go easy on Doug's leg though would ya. He needs perfect form to catch all those fish. ;) Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts, I appreciate it. Things are going great as far as my relationship with my doctor, however this bloody disability process practically sucks the patience right out of me. Oh well, I know that I am deserving of the benefits afforded, and I will not stop until I prevail over the government machine. I will prevail, I'm as stubborn as a mule when I need to be. So there! :ytongue:

Cheers everyone!

Wow, that is really something about the gluten Ron. Maybe it was bothering you all this time? Who knows, hey? I guess it's a good thing you know now anyhow. I hope you are feeling better these days, it's about time things took a turn for the better for you. Prayers sent for good things to come your way.

Doug still has both legs intact, I need him to carry the yaks to the water on our trip. 😂 (Besides, he gave me some of his Sudafed.)
I hope you can start having a "break" (the good kind) yourself Ron. At least you know about not handling the dog food now. Maybe you should invest in a box of disposable rubber or latex gloves...

Chris, I think they make getting on disability so hard that the ones that need it the most aren't able to fight the fight to get on without help ... so frustrating ... another reason I'll kelp Doug intact.
Hang in there friend.

Chris, you don't know how true that is! We are in a Bass Fishing Tournament this weekend! I just hope Sandy feels well enough for it. We are heading to a reservoir in southern Utah. We leave Thursday and come back Sunday. We will fish on Friday to practice for the tournament, which is Saturday.

Ha ha, Doug didn't know I already told you that. (Doug, you need to catch up on LOW. :rof:)

Thanks Sandy. You are right about the disability, they make it so most people eventually give up, (hahaha! I'm not most people). The people who designed some of these application processes should be in jail really, having to fill them out for life! That's if it were up to me anyhow. ;) Good luck fishing in the tournament you two, bring home the hardware! 🏆

Thanks everyone. Last day of antibiotics so it can only improve from here. 9+ inches of snow and it's still coming down. Might be a little longer before spring. 😀 Hope everyone gets better as well. Enjoy your trip Doug and Sandy, it sound like fun. Be careful Ron, allergies can be miserable and sometimes dangerous. Good luck with the disability process Chris.

For those of you who misunderstood my Brit. tongue in cheek humour,it was snow chains for lil' blackies tyres I was after.Pouring with rain here today,so I'm now looking for water skis.

Wow, the conversation here got way ahead when I thought nobody was here. When I refreshed the page a few times two new pages worth appeared. Glad to know everyone's alive and kicking.
Chris, keep on beating the path to disability. I believe it is criminal how they make it so difficult for those who are in need to get the support they need. Very cruel, and then they want to impose carbon taxes on top of the VAT taxes, and the property taxes and so on. I would try to get a legal aid lawyer in your case, they cost little and are experts in these cases.
I cut more firewood, but this is only the warm up before the real firewood effort happens when the snow leaves. I'll have about 8 full bush cords to cut and split. My chainsaw will be howling like that newborn sitting in the row behind you on the long haul flight. Not looking forward to it, but it is satisfying and keeps the oil truck away. For me anyways spring means only one thing, firewood, and more firewood and try to get most of it done before the biting flies hatch which explains partly why I don't look forward to the big melt.

Let me help do it Mandy, puhweeeze? (Doug, at least I didn't say break your legs.:ylol:)

Course il let you help Sandy..im on my way. Just reving up the unicorn hun. Mmm i was going to break his legs but felt that a bit harsh...only a bit mind 😃😃. Hope you both feel better soon 💞

Chris you battle till you beat the pen pushers...then push the pens were the sun dont shine 😁💕

Carol.A bush cord. I think its a stack of fire wood about 4ft by 8ft... could be wrong mind you!!

Bush cord is 4 feet wide, 4 feet tall, and 8 foot long. On an average winter I will go through between 5 or 6 of these, and perhaps use about 80 liters of furnace oil as back up.

A 4' high x 4' deep x 8' length pile, split and stacked, is what we consider a cord too. Some people measure differently, but not many around here.

FUN FACT: ;)

Chuck Norris doesn't need to read books. He just stares them down until he gets the information he wants.

Not me,I'm just hypnotised by his cosmetic surgery, him and Stallone, and Stallones mom.:hallo3:

When we were little kids and we had a coal fire, we used to by our sticks/kindling from the corner shop for about two old pence a bundle.I'm sure it used to do two days. And the coal man used to deliver coal every couple of weeks in hessian sacks which he tipped through a little hatch into the coal house / shed.Happy memories for me but perhaps not for the coal man.All you could see of his black coal-dusted face was his eyes.

I have an ex brother-in-law who, for a time, was a chimney sweep (a profession you don't hear about much around here except in books.) We are spoiled with central natural gas lines to houses, almost nobody uses anything else for heating, and it's reasonably priced. I can still picture my ex-brother-in-law with his whites of his eyes poking out of all that soot. Interestingly, he made pretty good money doing that. Bufford and all of you who cut firewood to warm your houses, you are a hardy bunch. I can't even imagine using that much wood in 5 years.

We have good news for us. Dave is on the bus on his way to Vegas while we get ready for and go on our camping and kayak tourney little trip. We are free for the moment! :dusty::dusty::dusty: Even better news, I hope I'm not premature saying this, but there is a good chance he will be moving back with his sister and her family. Love him as we do, but :dusty::dusty::dusty::dusty::dusty:

PS. My ex grandmother-in-law also had a coal bin/coal room in her basement of an older home in Salt Lake City (with a chute going to it from outside). She still used it when I was around as her son worked in the coal mines in central Utah and would periodically deliver coal to her. Having helped wash down walls in her house, it became evident why spring cleaning was a necessity every year (not just the normal everyday and weekly cleaning upkeep).

As a small child we had a coal fire. Which my mother could never get to light, she could not master that trick. Thus my father had to light the fire every morning before he went to work. I remember the coalman trawling tbe streets with his wagon.
My mum says her sister used to eat coal as a child. 😨

Love n hugs to all 💞💞
