It's funny you would all mention coal. I'm going to be buying some soon for the forge that I'm building. It's made of a big brake drum, a stand, some steel tubing and a small blower motor. I have all the bits I need. It costs virtually nothing but the time, welding rods to build it and coal to fire it.

The next question, Chris, is what are you going to be forging? (It seems you can do just about anything, Mr. talented one.) In fact, this group has a wide array of talents, which makes life a lot more interesting.

'morning all.Sandy have a great time.I hope you and Doug's colds are on the mend and also your water works are flushing out nicely.Fingers x'd about Dave's transfer.Nobody can say you didn't try, but given your health problems, having Dave move in probably wasn't the best idea you've ever had.....I saw on the news that all the fish in Utah have migrated to the next county after word got out you were on the way. Keep safe.

Chris are you a knifemaker? There are two groups, stock removal and forging. I made knives using stock removal since the 1980's. Never tried forging though. I make very few now, and the problem is all my neighbors want more of my work, and it becomes discouraging when I have to decline their requests. I cannot stand in my shop for very long, but it was (is) a very satisfying craft that requires patients and a steady hand. I have lots of patients, but my hand is not like it used to be.

Evening here Grumpy ... hope you have a great day . Mine was good thanks. Nearly bedtime for me 9pm just gone here in blighty ☺💕

Yes, I do make knives, (it's very satisfying to build a nice blade). I have tried both methods, stock removal and forging, I prefer forging. I like the creativity it gives me. I also make some tools and assorted custom pieces to suit any particular need, I've been doing this kind of thing since I was a teen. I'm actually really into metal fabrication, welding, casting, forging etc.

My great grandfather was a blacksmith, so I guess it was a natural progression for me. I always worked with either metal or wood, metal being my favorite. I wound up learning more metal work and welding techniques in technical school for auto body repair. As well I worked in the automotive industry for several years and as an apprentice sheet metal mechanic after that. After work for fun... you guessed it... more metal fabrication projects. Also I made fun stuff for souped up trucks or outdoor gear of some kind. ;)

I have really been missing having access to a forge, so I decided to make my own. Just because I can.

The nice thing about forging is that one does not have to work with in the confines of the piece of steel one is working with. I wish I kept count of how many I made in my lifetime. The beauty of this craft is the fact that my work will live on, be loved and useful long after I pass away.
I offer free sharpening to my customers, and when I have not seen one of my knives in a long time it is like a family reunion when I once again hold it in my hands when sharpening or doing a repair.
My father was a machinist, so that lends well to why I worked with stock removal. By trade I was a stationary engineer working in a large boilerroom for a long term heathcare facility. Good job, no two days were ever the same. Hot rod trucks and the Firebird, yup did that too!

TGIF :) No more phone calls or appointments for two days.... YES! I'm free! I hope everyone is doing well. Hey Doug and Sandy, have you caught all the fish yet...? I wish I was there to compete with you two kayaking contenders. Happy weekend to all! ;)

Hi Ron,we're watching a tv show of the first British settlers in Virginia. It's the second series and is called Jamestown. It's NOT a documentary it's a drama. But I look forward to it every week. There's a tribe living close to the settlement beginning with a P...Pontumac or something like that.

I might like to see that, Carol. August 11, we are supposed to have a memorial picnic for my parents.

Carol, is it the Potomac? There is a river there called Potomac river, it separates Maryland and Virginia I think.

Happy weekend everyone [emoji4]

No Madhu,it's the Pontumaci or as close as.It's not a tribe I'm familiar with, but I was wondering if they still exist.I will try to take note next time it's on.Maybe the name is derived from the Potomac ?
The settlers are growing tobacco which is being shipped to England.Mostly they're male convicts and women have been shipped out to marry them. The Governors etc. are a conniving lot and pious.Which means that they think it's OK to dole out forty lashes in the name of God.

Hope you've settled in to your new home Madhu and that you're enjoying the warmer weather.

Yes Carol. I would say we are 99% settled in the new home. The temperature is 30 degrees Celsius today and i am loving it. Reminds me of home [emoji4]

Old joke for you.......Wife was weeping as she washed the floor.
"What's wrong sweetheart, why are you crying?"
Wife sniffling and wiping her nose on the floor cloth "I'm homesick waaaahaaaa".
Husband "But this IS your home.darling"
Wife "Yes I know that and I'm bloody sick of it"..

My goodness Carol she sounds just like me!!! Im sick of my home, with son all time n baba nearly half of the week making a mess. Im sick of cleaning. Im planing a spring clean while im of this week n woe betide the one that makes a mess after iv done. There'll murder murder i say !!!
Well if iv got the energy to commit murder after iv cleaned 😁

Love to you all n best wishes xxx

Honeys, we're home! We got skunked, didn't catch a fish between us. I don't feel too badly, though, because out of the 17 entered in the tournament, only four caught fish. Also, we got to enjoy a beautiful dessert reservoir with nice clear water, (and learned a lot about bass fishing for the next tourney. ☺)

Glad your home safe. The pics are beautiful.I hope the break cleared your mind and rested your body and soul.x

Beautiful pic! Who is that gorgeous man? [emoji6] Glad you guys had fun [emoji4]

On another note, I just read this news and I'm quite shocked. This woman was taking humira, doesn't it apply to all immunosuppressants? Huh!

Just have to add, I was shocked! I saw a different version of this story from a local news feed, it didn't mention she was taking humira, (did mention that when she was sick with sepsis they had to give her a med that in order to get better blood flow to her vital internal organs, an unfortunate side effect was taking away circulation from her limbs).
And to think Dave wouldn't wash his hands, knowing we both have weak immune systems (the apathy side) and we both caught colds...
We had anorher little scare while on our trip, Doug's sister sounded like she was changing her mind, so we let her know it was either a group home here in Utah or back with them in Nevada. He is going back there, but scheduled to come back here later today on the bus, but packing his things and moving back. Bro-in-law will even come pick up Dave and his things very shortly.
~whew~
(But yes, it was a nice little vacation.)

That's good news Sandy. You and Doug deserve to have a peaceful retirement. As if you don't have enough problems. As for the article, I saw 3 news articles mentioning humira. I'm quite scared since remicade is also similar and we don't really care much about weak immunity. At least until now. Though we are basically clean people, we should be more aware. Sigh

You know what i dont know or care either

How awful poor lady.. i guess even the best of people are at risk of sepsis weak immune systems or not. Tho its far worse for those with one 😨

Send love n hugs to all. 💞💝:ghug:

Sandy glad you get to get your home back....now i can move in 😃😃😃.
Seriously tho you n doug deserve some peace and quite. You both need to be able to relax and rest when you need to. Its so hard to do that when you have others in your space. Hugs 💞💝

After having had a scary experience with Remicade I can honestly say that I am terrified of any Biologic that tampers with my immune system. It took a full year for my body to return to normal.
However, I have been having gallbladder problems diagnosed with gallbladder sludge last year. I am suspecting that I maybe taking too much calcium as my bad cholesterol levels are very low.
I had a terrible night at the remote cabin with the pains that come and go. I sometimes wonder if its my stricture, but the pains seem to be coming from further up my RT side and are still there after having had bowel movements. I'll be seeing my doctor in a couple of days and see where she will want to go with this.

Even never having met you in person Mandy, I know you would be much easier to deal with then Dave.😮
One more happy piece of news for us today, we just picked up Casper and I am so happy to see him. He is very happy to see us too.🐕 (We had him boarded as I don't think he would be very good in a kayak. :ywow::runaway::ylol2:)
Yes, Madhu, those compromised immune systems are a little frightening, but like everything else, we have to look at how the benefits outweigh the risks. Hopefully your hubby, and everyone here who takes an immunosuppressant (almost all of you with an IBD), have the major benefits, and little side effect from your meds. Hugs and love to all❣

I agree

Sorry I didn't see your post before I posted mine Buford. I'm also sorry that you have had ill effects from Remicade. It doesn't sound like you are going through a very pleasant time at all right now, I will send all positive thoughts, white light, prayers, hugs, or whatever it takes (or whatever you believe in) to help get you through. I hope your doctor can give you some answers that are easily fixed. Take care of yourself.
( have you considered having your gallbladder removed? When I did I feel so much better than I had in ages....)

Sandy tho having never met me in person you are spot on. I am the perfect house guest. I respect peoples homes,i clean up after myself and will help out doing chores n odd jobs that im able to do. I respect their need for space and rest and i understand how it feels to be poorly. So if my host was unwell id be a nurse for the duration too. See practicaly perfect...just call me mary poppins. 😃😃💝💝💝
So glad you have wee casper back. I bet he did miss you both as much as you missed him 🐾🐾

Bufford.. sorry you have had a rough time. Like Sandy i send prayers and hope you feel better very soon . Hang in there good buddy 💕

Thanks, I am going through a very rough period. I feel like a grounded pilot wanting to fly, in my case i am missing out on the late winter season I enjoy out at the remote cabin. I had a horrible night there on the weekend and worse since it has no running water. I have a hard time trying to do the things I used to love doing, but the remote cabin is getting harder each season. The ugly switch to daylight saving time doesn't help either. Wish they would leave it on standard time all year as I like an earlier sunset to chill from the stress of the day.
I am seeing my doctor in a couple of days, I do think the gallbladder needs to come out as its getting worse since diagnosis last year.

That's a darn fine young man you folks raised there Ron! I'm really glad you have support like that, it's so important. Good for you for teaching him right, and good on him for helping you and being such a great guy.

Crohns is very rarely mentioned in our news, probably never. There was an item on the news last night about an eighteen year old lad with a bag who went into the disabled toilet with his girlfriend. She sometimes has to help with it.The bouncer/doorman bulldozed in shouting, thinking they were up to hanky-panky.When the lad showed his bag the doorman apologised and shook his hand and left. When they came out,the manager gave them a talking to because "he didn't look disabled".The young chap was lovely and so was his girlfriend. They just wanted to put it out, that just because we look well, and he did, doesn't mean we are.......I think some of us have been in that situation at some time or another....:ymad:

Feeling better since last evening and got some rest last night. The pain under the right ribs has subsided. These attacks come on fast, and luckily they back off too, rather scary not knowing when it may erupt into something worse. I have been eating nothing but the chicken soup I made Sunday afternoon. Still very tired and out of it.
Ron, there is nothing better than a supportive family member to fill in those dark holes in our lives. The support I receive from this group of people goes a long way to lift me up. Life is not easy living like this.

Beautiful sunny afternoon and cool enough that everything is holding together. I'm going out to the cabin to do some housekeeping in the hopes I feel well enough to try another night out sometime.

Bufford now take it easy old chum. Glad your feeling better but please dont over do things and set yourself back. Hugs 💕

Working on it still, I'll keep you posted. I can hardly wait to get it finished. :)

Please do Chris. I love a bit of forgery ..... oops i was thinking of money not horse shoes etc :rof:
No seriously let me know how you go with it. I used to love watching the blacksmith when i had a horse. Fasinating to watch as they made the shoes to fit ☺💞

Yep i have hen.. i used to say "hey you can have a look at my ostomy bag if you like, its full of shit, but guess you'd know how it feels" that shut them up sharpish i can tell you.
Harsh maybe but so true of the folks iv come across when using my radar key.
By the way Carol and anyone else in uk. Have you heard of the prescription coalation. They are campaigning at the mo for free prescriptions for those of us on long time /life time meds. Iv just signed on the online petion. If you can google them and sign the petion. The more of us that sign the better chance we have of getting a change. Heres hoping it makes a difference ☺ :)

We have to be tough cookies sometimes, I truly appreciate the struggle. Sometimes there is no way to learn except learning the hard way. I believe it toughens our determination and resolve, that's for sure!

We are the tough ones having to go through a lot of misery and difficulty living with the scourge. It makes me suborn and determined to keep on pursuing my dreams. I have shocked a few who drove into my yard to see me swinging the axe, working the howling chainsaw with my colostomy bag hanging out. Its good to be loud and proud, in fact I believe its a healthy outlet.

Haha bufford i can just see their faces😃😃😃 good on ya mate..
Tough cookies us lot. Aint got much choice have we. Its be tough or go under n il be blowed if im going under ☺💞

When anyone asks my hubby how I am,his answer is always "She's as tough as old boots"
Now I could think of a better reply sometimes, but it does make me determined to be as "tough as old boots".....most people though don't know about the crohns and because I look healthy and am moderately fit they just think I'm doing well "for my age"

Some days it's hard to keep the act up though.

Carol...keeping up the act of being ok is hardwork and tiring in itself. As i know only to well..

Though some days i fail in the act but some days i just dont care and be lazy coz i need to be!! :)

living like this in this state is a tough act to follow, its not for those who are meek if I may say.

Your right there bufford. It is not for wimps...
💂 soldiering on with the fight is what we do best. I guess that a few of of us would not be here now if we didnt.

To all the soldiers here keep on fighting. :ghug:💞💝💕

Hi everybody. Thought I'd check in. I'm still in remission and feeling ok overall. My autistic brother is moving back with my sister. This will help Sandy and I and I think it will be better for him. Can't wait for that to happen. I love him but he is difficult.

Long, but productive day today. I sharpened ten knives, repaired a very difficult computer problem and did my share of government paperwork. I sharpened the knives as a break from the boring gov't stuff. It's relaxing to me and I enjoy working with my hands. Now I get to watch some YouTube and veg out. The silly little pleasures in life make it all worthwhile. ;)

You both gave it a darn fair try Doug, sometimes it's just all for the best. I can really relate to family difficulties, it's great to see them and have a visit, or go hang out together. It's also nice to go home afterward to have some peace and privacy. The autism really didn't help anything, I hope the best for him. I hope he finds happiness, we all deserve that.

Doug glad you are still in remission. Im the same as far as im aware. Got a Gi appointment on the 20th of this month. So fingers crossed all is good. 💞

Chris hope you enjoyed the chill time after your busy day. Iv been doing some spring cleaning while off work this week. I feel better for having a clean house. Not often the skirting boards, paintwork and behind furniture gets done these days 💕

Hope everyone is well and happy :ghug:
Trysha Kirsty and Cat...how are you ? Xxx

awful weather so have been catching up on chores. You know, the stuff that you put to the back of your mind for later. But for some reason,it's always there, nibbling away.Like sewing.I HATE SEWING !!! But it's all done now and I'm feeling smug, until the next time.

Given the number of life saving surgeries many of us have gone and soldiered through, this place would be pretty empty. I was annoyed when they woke me up, by restarting my heart with the thumper, but on the other hand I'm glad they did. Life has been quite a ride so far.

I am still about, been really busy, Kiwi fruit season is about to start, so i wil, have more time.

More snow has arrived in my neck of the woods....i have to drive in it 1 20 min journey to get my grandson then later 30/45 min journey to take my mother to a hospital appointment. At leaast the main roads should be ok as the gritters were out last night.
:ghug:

It's another horrible day here. The overnight snowfall has virtually gone, but it's cold, grey and miserable. This is day two of being indoors and I'm going a little bit stir-crazy.I worry when I don't get enough fresh air and exercise, but we're told that people of a "certain age" shouldn't go out unless it's necessary,in bad weather. So it looks like it's going to be a book afternoon.Stay warm and safe those on the Northern Hemisphere and to those in the south, don't forget the sun block and keep hydrated.

Thanks Ron. All journeys completed safely. The main roads were pretty clear so wasnt to bad.💕

Carol can you go stir crazy on top of your being normaly crazy??
If so id like to add another kind of crazy to my normal one. Not fair if you can have two n not me.. :rof:x

Happy St Urhos to you Bufford
I was reading that St Urho is a fictional saint who drove out the grasshoppers..
This day is celebrated in Thunder Bay on March 17th and there are big parades. But it started in Minnesota.
