Good luck with the moving Izzie.I hope you have plenty help so that you only need to do the directing. It's bad enough moving when you're fit and well.

i got the snowmobile apart and getting the front shaft to budge from the cogs in the track is proving to be difficult. Glad I am doing this during summer giving me time to go slow on a project such as this.

I agree re: Chris, Buff.Give us a shout Chris and let's know how you are.
So many of our friends are missing from this thread lately, (you all know who you are). It's worrying and sad.

Lucky,lucky lucky me,I'm a lucky son of a gun
I work eight hours
I sleep eight hours
And I have eight hours for fun......

Hope they can do something for you soon Izzie ....take care with the move...hope you leave all your troubles behind..
Snowblowers out in summer Buff.....shades of things to come..
Things for me are still iffy.....yesterday the physio restarted acupuncture which I hope will deal somewhat with the crohns episode.....it had been so good.i did feel a bit better after it.
The acupuncture had to be stopped two weeks ago because of the severe inflammation in my left foot....and he cant use the right leg because of the prosthesis which can attract
infections.....great life if we don’t weaken.
I have to get better pronto because I am travelling to Quebec on Sunday for a few days.
Currently brushing up my French that I haven’t used since last year.....it usually clicks back into place.
Currently the only thing I can eat is rice....been like it for a couple of weeks now....any suggestions are welcome.Think I will start some milkshakes....can’t stand those meal replacements which they pushed three times a day when I was in hospital...I used to give them to a friend to take home for me...saved altercations and dietician visits...
Wish they would restore the hospital chefs who took such great care with meal preparations.
Anyway I’m not planning on going back to any hospital for the rest of my life.
Carol you sound in great form today..but then you have such lovely books to go to..
Chris.. we are missing you...hope things are ok for you...
Where is everybody else....Ron...Kirsty...Sandy....Doug........hope you are enjoying the sun somewhere and that things are ok for you all.
Winning....

Hi all. Hope things go well Izzie with the move. Also that your throat problem can be resolved soon. Hugs 💕
Trysha hope you enjoy your trip and yoyr health lets you do the things you want to do whilst on it. 💕
Buff keep your chin up mate and dont over do it with that snow mobile 💕
Carol i am banning you from buying any more books young lady... well at least till the next time you buy books OK!!!♡♡

My mum has been in hospital since last sunday. She had a fall 2 weeks ish ago n she has got severe pain in her legs and bottom. Been going to see every night after work. So tired now im off to sleep when i finish here.
She did seem more comfortable tonight. They have given her morphine patches . Which seem to be helping keep the pain n spasms down to bearable level.

Oh why do we have to suffer the pain n indignity of ill health ????

Big hugs n loves to you all. 💝💞💕:ghug:

Thanks Mandy..sorry about your mum...
Here’s hoping she recovers soon.....these falls are a real pain to recover from.
It’s good she can have morphine.
Tomorrow I have to see the cardiologist.....delayed due to my hospitalization.....had hoped to get out of going but it didn’t work.
Another very hot day 38deg...longing for some cooler weather.
Winning......

Oh yikes, 38 degrees is too darn hot. Things have finally cooled down here after a very long heatwave. Around 20 degrees and cloudy for the past handful of days.

15c here so no complaints....Trysha you're such a worry, but you don't let it get the better of you. You're a real trouper.
Mandy,I hope your Mum gets better soon.I'm assuming she's had x-rays etc.? Make sure you look after yourself too,or you'll be no good to anybody.

Thought for the day....To treat his childhood asthma Theodore Roosevelt's doctor and parents encouraged him to smoke cigars.

Trysha, I have to agree there needs to be a better standard for meal served in hospital. How does a patient recover and heal if the food is awful?
Worked some more on the snowmobile and then had to get a larger socket from the neighbor, which then turned into a full blown afternoon visit sitting around outside on the deck. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

Thanks Carol n Trysha. It could be a long haul for mum. The morphine patches are helping the pain but she still cant walk hardly a few feet.

Had my sons best friends girlfriend died today. Think her drink was spiked on a night out last night. They have not long had a baby and have too young daughters aswell. Such a sad sad time. God bless her and her family 💕💞💝

Love to all 💞

Mandy, that is so shocking!! Can't trust anyone anywhere nowadays. My heart goes out to her family xx

I think I sprained a muscle in my rib today. I didn't even know that was possible. Lol. Well I'm in pain and hoping it goes away on its own. Can't really take any meds now. Love to everyone here and the missing ones [emoji173]

That can be very painful Madhu....hope you will soon be better.
Have you seen a doctor about it? Hopefully yes.
Mandy...hope mums a bit better today
Cardiologist wants me to wear light weight cardiac monitor for two weeks....he says when I return from Quebec next week.Apparently they are new less intrusive devices....we’ll see..
Hope the weather cools down pronto
Carol...are you still reading....don’t wear out your eyesight.....!!!
My dad used to say that to me ..he did not like me reading...I always had a 📚 book or was going to the library in exchange for doing chores to help mum...we were a big family...
Orthopedic surgeon tomorrow....hope I can get the sling off and start physio on my arm.
My broken finger is slow to heal....won’t move properly..the physio did ultrasound as well as exercises...can you imagine exercises for a little finger...?? It is very stubborn and very stiff
bit like my brain at times.....think I’ll have to resurrect my piano playing except I don’t have a 🎹 piano.....wouldn’t go with apartment living....I do have a keyboard very nice one and also a guitar.Hard to play in apartment life though.....could use the balcony which is very large but also enclosed.
I can sing also....but it wouldn’t move my little finger....neighbours might not appreciate my musical renditions though.
Heigh-ho ......Life is full of little problems....
Winning....

Thanks Madhu. Its a cruel world and a world were you have to watch everything you do as other go about causing harm to others with no reason.
Hope your rib feels better soon. If you can get some try some arnica cream. Its good for muscle strain, brusies etc.💕

Trysha thanks. Her pain seems to be being managed better. Its just getting her back on her feet now.
Hope your appointment goes well and the sling is slung. Take care and becareful not to over do things if the sling is gone. Hope the finger gets moving better soon 💕

Ended up in the ER yesterday. Throat closed up for like a minute, couldn't get a breath in AT ALL. Then was wheezy and weird and my voice had changed dramatically. Saw an ENT and apparently I had a vocal cord spasm. Doctor also saw severe acid erosion in the throat from reflux. And this AFTER I had friggin surgery for reflux. I'm annoyed. Trying to push for a surgery consult to see if I need a second surgery. The vocal cord thing was super scary I've been anxious it might happen again.

Does it ever freaking end? I just want a normal healthy-ish baseline so I can have a normal everyday life again.

What can I say to you all ? you're all having a tough time, one way or another.Sending huge hugs to you and a gentler hug for Madhu.
Trysha, you are so talented !!! You put me to shame. And yes I'm still reading.I can't imagine life without a book.I do worry, because I'm partially sighted in one eye and a cataract is developing (slowly) in the other. They won't operate until it's absolutely necessary in case something goes wrong, leaving me permanently blind. With luck my sight will outlive the rest of me.
Thought for today.....QI is the most commonly played word in Tournament Scrabble. It's pronounced 'chee' and means' life force' or 'energy' in Mandarin.

We are all having a rough row to hoe. Struggled with the snowmobile, one lousy nut that will not come off now puts the whole effort on hold. I'm wasting time on this project when I should be moving firewood.
I'm going to be having an appointment with the surgeon to discuss my gallbladder. It has been better through July, but acting up again.

Have you had an MRI Buff.? Don't hesitate to to have it removed if the Doc.advises it.

As to the snowmobile vs. the firewood.Firewood has to come first.

I'm back, I read every post. My province is in a state of emergency due to wildfires. My family is all ill due to smoke. Internet is very intermittent here. I hope you all are doing well, we will tough this out.

Good to see you Chris and happy to hear you're OK (ish)
Keep safe and your family of course.Mind your stress levels as best you can.

Hey Mandy sorry to hear about your mom , is it the butrans patches she’s on ? If so be on the lookout for toxicity , my father in law was on butrans patches very recently and after a week on them he became toxic and had delirium as well .

In the other thread I mentioned my visit to the surgeon's office. They are starting off with a scope, I need one anyways since its been 3 years since the last one, and then go from there.
I agree Carol, firewood must come first. I start early due to these kinds of setbacks. However, I still need to get the snowmobile working as it is a long way from the house to where I park the truck in winter since I don't have the finances or resources to plow out the full length of the road to the house in winter. I use the snowmobile to transport all my groceries and other goods up to the house, I just cannot pull the toboggan like I once did when I was younger and healthier.

Thanks Tony . Nice to see you by the way ☺ oh no how awful i hope he is ok now. no i dont fink she is on those. Im fairly sure it begins with a f the name it but thats all i can remember. I could do with patches for my memory☺
Hope you are doing well and alfie is also. 💕

Chris nice to see you too. Please be carefull and stay safe. Hope the smoke doesnt cause to much illness for you n your family. I hope the fires soon dissipate.Take care 💞

Hi everybody. Thought I would check in.
Mandy, I was shocked to read of the death of that girl! So sorry. Also hope your mother starts to feel better.

Sandy and I are doing fine. Spent a day up in the mountains at Mirror Lake. Had a very nice time, even though it rained most of the day. I have started a You Tube channel for our Kayak Fishing videos. If you want to check it out, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zueqj7wTTko

It is proof that Crohnies can get into remission and have a life!

Hope everyone is doing well. If not, then I hope you find much improvement.

just a quick Hi to everyone and hope that the summer weather is helping with your health,

I was going to get some work done, but instead was invited to the neighbor's birthday party. It was a good one for all, good food, but paying the price for it today. The smoke makes the sky look like its about to rain, but luckily those fires are a long ways away.

Rallying today. Meal prepped my extremely boring low-acid diet food that I don't want to eat but will. Scheduled therapy for tomorrow. Planning on calling my various health care providers to check in tomorrow as well. Hoping I'll be able to go to the gym, even. I won't be able to do much but even with gut troubles I figure I should be able to go on the elliptical for like 15 minutes. It's really just about going, getting the routine going again, even if my actual workouts are totally pathetic :p I've had a few days of whinging, time to get back on the horse.

Hope those of you dealing with smoke from fires find some relief soon, it sounds really annoying!

Hey Doug so glad to hear you and Sandy are well and having a good time ☺☺
Thanks Doug it was such a shock. Niall my son is in state over it and his poor friend is just not on this planet at the moment. I pray Alan has the strength to pull thro this. 🙏
My mum is doing better on the pain front but still not able to sit or stand as the pain restarts then. ☹

Love n hugs to all 💞💕

Thanks Chris. It just so sad such a waste of a life. Hope your ok my friend.
Iv heard today that my mum may need a hip operation. So goodness knows how long she will have to wait for that..💕

That's not good news Mandy.I understand your concern about the wait.Maybe they'll do it while she's insitue,so to speak. That would be the most sensible thing. Is Niall's little holiday problem better ?

Gossypiboma n. is a surgical sponge accidentally left inside a patients body.

It upsets me a lot when people abuse their bodies and gamble with their lives for some frivolous 'high' only to end up dead. Here I am trying to find a balance between pain and medications to keep my lousy fragile body going as it is my only vehicle through life which maybe our only gift we receive. I don't understand why some take life itself for granted. Good health is only a dream for the rest of us.
Mandy I send my condolences.

Carol i hope they do it very soon because i dont think she can bear to suffer for much longer. I fear she will just give up and we will lose her. Nialls feet are much better not quite right but improvment is going well. Thanks for asking hen :).
I agree Bufford. The poor girl may have been spiked but we dont know yet the actual cause. Awaiting a PM to find out. Thanks for the condolences .
Keep on keeping on mate ☺

Love to all :ghug:

That is a beautiful handsome dog you have Tony...
It is said that dogs resemble their owners.....makes you handsome too....
Mandy..hope things are better your way..
Izzie...hope you are a bit better....
Carol...are you sure you aren’t making things up....
Bufford...I agree with you...very upsetting
Greetings Everybody from Quebec 🌃 City....
Yesterday my friend assured me we were walking in the right direction back to the meeting point for the coach. I thought she was wrong but went with it anyway....the more we walked the more wrong it became. After half hour walking I said this is the wrong direction....and stopped a passerby who immediately said we were walking in the wrong direction....and we should get a taxi back...,..I don’t like taxis at all so we turned around and walked back the way I had been suggesting.Even then my friend wanted to take another wrong turn.
I took a very strong stance this time and refused to change direction,..we finally came back to familiar territory and the meeting point for everyone. We were a four hour drive away from where we were staying in a different city near Trois Rivieres...where three rivers meet
hence the name.
Too late for dinner....I didn’t want it anyway.
That’s the last time I accept any travel directions from her or anyone else.
My sense of direction is usually spot on....just won’t listten in future to anyone else.
She admitted her sense of direction was not good....I did not know that before but suspected it.
It was a relief to get back and have a nice tepid shower.....I was overheated...plus my left foot is very inflamed again...full of complaints nobody died from.....
Quebec City has steep hills to climb in the shopping area and elsewhere. It is very picturesque...the Plains of Abraham is where the Brits fought the French and won Canada.
Lots of history....
Won’t bore you all.
Be good to get home tomorrow night.
Not a spot of rain around here...usually it pours at least one day.
Cheers

Awesome, Trysha! No more listening to any more wrong directions... EVER! Well, from that certain person anyway. ;) I hope you keep those feet looked after and things keep improving. Are you really in QC? Cool!

I agree that Tony's dog looks like a mans best friend... I think he might be a bit rambunctious yet but he sure is good looking...;) I can't wait to get another dog one day... Hey, a guy can dream a bit anyways... Right? :)

Cheers from the middle of a forest fire... we call it BC! I think it's starting to turn for the better in that regard... I sure hope so!

Wishing you all the best!

C

Yes Chris...I really was in Quebec City for most of the day....that is after a visit to St Anne de Beaupres Cathedral.....a magnificent cathedral and very inspiring.
I am staying at a very special retreat centre situated on the banks of the St Lawrence....
The Cathedral is called Notre Dame du Cap....and was built hauling stone across the width of the St Lawrence.it is magnificent ...green copper roofs and exterior
There is also a smaller original church in the grounds ..not that small though...and a special stone bridge which helped people come in from the Seaway. long story with special significance
Returning to Ontario tomorrow after a visit to the Oratory in Montreal.
It has been a good break and.....absolute tranquillity ....a good rest from the noisy confusion of life...
Winning.......

Just realised what you said Chris about the forest fire raging....
Stay safe all of you...what a terrible experience

Hello all. Hope life’s treating you fairly. I couldn’t access the forum for the longest time. Keeping busy with Isaac, hard to believe he’s almost a year old. Work is an unpleasant four letter word as usual. Such is life. The forest fires to the north make things hazy and health warnings are the normal for those with breathing issues and young children. We also have forest fires in the US, very near my brother in California. Stay safe Canadian friends. Latest diagnosis from the doctor is GAD. Never heard of it but apparently it’s Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Not a surprise with Crohns, go figure. Lucky me. Also getting busy with preparing for my sons upcoming wedding. Never a dull moment around here as much as I’d like a few minutes of quiet time.

Great to hear from you Shanen.I hope during all the " busyness" you manage to have some "you" time.It seems like only last month since the little fella's birth. That's another year of my life down the pan.So to speak.hahaha.
Trysha,I'm happy to hear you're having a good and spiritual time.Apart from the "mystery"tour that is.Your friend would have had to sling me over her shoulder if she'd done that to me.
And yes, they're all true. How could anyone make it all up ?

Hi all. Nice to see you pop in Shanen. Aw blimey doesnt time fly. I know my grandson keeps me busy. I dont know if im coming or going ☺💕

Trysha glad you finally got back to the coach. Yes go with your own directional sense in the future. 💞

Carol keep up the imformational tidbits...i might learn something ;) x

I doubt if I could teach you much Mandy...….:ylol2::ylol2::ylol2:

After two weeks of wear a pair of jeans will have grown a 1,000 strong colony of bacteria on the front,1,5000 - 2,5000 on the back and, wait for it...…..10,000 on the crotch !!!

I'm off to put the washer on a boil wash (kidding)

:) i think you might be able to you know. Im not that bright. Im more a candle than a 100 watt bulb. Carol thats a lot of bacteria ...mmmm me thinks il be joining you with the boil wash :) :) x

Give me a month and a half and I'll have my boots all full of snow... I seem to thrive during those times. Time to do more skiing or anything else cold. I have a firm grip on my fire extinguisher in the meantime. 🍺;)

Chris,I've just mentioned on the weather thread that I wore a jacket today, for the first time in months.I felt much more like my old self. I love sweaters and boots etc.Although like all of us I do look forward to Spring...…

A lethal dose of chocolate for a human being is about 22ib or 40 bars of Cadburys Dairy Milk (boy, have I come close ?) A single M&M is enough to kill a small songbird. It's good that they like caterpillars and seeds eh?

It's still hot here. Whopping 34 c everyday. I do miss fall but I love the heat. Hoping for a nice fall weather while the rest of you have snow [emoji16]

Hi all. An update on my mum. She has been transfered to a spinal ward at Salford royal hospital. The mir scan showed a slipped disc in lower lumber region. This seems to be what is causing the pain and lacking of feeling n strengh in her legs. They said that she may have an operation as early as tomorrow (fri). The team will she her and assess her in the morning. They have said nil by mouth from midnight just incase they do it friday.
Im praying she gets through the op ok.

Love to all and i hope you are all doing well. :ghug:💞💝

Oh how i miss 34 degress. We had that in Tunisa and above. I feel piggin freezing here now 😃.
Be carefull in the heat, dont get overheated, as i know when with precious bundle its easy to get to hot. Hope you are both doing well and hubby too 💕💞

I 'll be praying for your mom, Mandy. I hope her surgery goes well and recovery is easy on her xx

Special prayers for a successful outcome for your mum Mandy.....I feel for you at this time
Carol...like people not all bacteria are bad......you didn’t specify the nature or identity of said live beings.
Some bacteria are used to make liqueurs, some a variety of cheeses 🧀 others yield vitamins
valuable to our lives......
Some are naughty and cause specific and non specific infections.
They will always be with us to keep us on our toes......
Being a clinical microbiologist I have attachments to some of them and lethal remedies
for others.......
Hot washes of clothing is always advisable to keep things in check...
Where did you get the information Carol....
Stay safe Chris....
As you can see I’m back from Quebec.....quite refreshed......sore foot back...all that walking
was not good said my physiotherapist.
He has now started exercises for my shoulder after inserting some acupuncture needles
to stop the pain......worked up to a point..
Hard to accept those arm movements necessary to bring the arm back to normal...it’s going to take some time.....quite painful...
Thems the breaks for those who don’t look where they are going...
Madhu ...take care and stay comfortable in the cool
Winning....

Best wishes for your Mom Mandy. Infusion day tomorrow for me. A welcome relief for me as it seems to be wearing off quicker each time.

It's still hot here. Whopping 34 c everyday. I do miss fall but I love the heat. Hoping for a nice fall weather while the rest of you have snow [emoji16]

It'd good that you enjoy the heat Madhu, especially carrying Baby Bump around all day.No swollen ankles yet ?.....:ghug:

Sharon.. hope you will feel heaps better after the infusion...whilst summer is nice I think
the heat takes its toll at times..especially when we are already below par...
Mandy...hope things are well with your mum....don’t let the heat get to you...
Carol...love your quaint expressions...where does it all come from?
Yesterday morning ...first day back from Quebec...the building manager and his wife
Entered my apartment and nearly fell over my walker which I leave in front of the door for miscreants to fall over....they left hastily since they realised I was in the shower...
As I was drying off the ☎️ phone went ...it was the managers wife Explaining since they had not seen me and I had not answered their calls they were 😦 concerned and needed to check if I was ok.
They did not know I had been away....I said in future I will let them know although they could have called one of the contact people they have listed...friends that help if needed.
Since they are very caring couple I forgive their entry....bit of a shock though..
Physiotherapist started the arm mobilisation exercises yesterday...quite painful...he placed some acupuncture needles which lessened the pain and said to continue wearing the sling
outdoors but remove it indoors.
My little finger was given the same treatment...it does not move very well but he said it will become normal again.
The foot responded swiftly to the acupuncture...lots of needles in my left foot and leg.
It also settles abdominal pain.
Talk about the Wreck of the Hesperus.....
Today I am dead tired 💤 😓 ........
It is so hot out there....have to make the most of it...we will soon be complaining of the cold of winter..
Winning....

Thanks everyone for the good wishes re my mum. Today they have said its not her spine its her hip thats causing the problems n they are going to transfer her back to the other hospital. So no op at moment.
Now im no genious but i think she needs to have both hip n spinal op so why cant they do a piggy back op and get both done at same time. Surely it would make sense and save money for the NHS rather than do one n then have to do another. It would save my mum a lot of pain and messing about. At nearly 76 she can well do without this palaver.
.
Trysha i hope you can get to feel better soon too. You have had a bad run yourself hun.

Love to all. 💞💕xxx

Thanks everyone. Me and bubba are doing good. Carol, the bump is not very big yet since I'm only 6 months along. But discomfort has certainly started setting in. No swollen ankles yet [emoji4]

Mandy, it sounds to me that maybe your mum needs a second opinion? Saving money for the nhs aside, someone at that age shouldn't be subjected to multiple or unnecessary surgeries. Hope they do right by her [emoji177][emoji177]

Thanks Madhu. I just wish that they would make a decision and stick with and get things done. Instead one says this n one says that and nowt gets done. Exactly my point she can do without multiple ops..it makes common practical and financial sense to me for them to do the two ops at same time. I know that can be done so why wont they. Why waste time money and have my mum in pain for longer than is really needed. The powers that be eh !!go figure.
It makes me weak that the so called intelligent high ups in office cant even see the blindingly obvious..

So glad you and bump are doing well hunnie. Keep up the good work ☺. Cant wait for your little bun in the oven to be ready to pop out safe and sound ☺☺☺💕💞💝

Don't get stressed Mandy.Mum's in the best place, debatable,I know.I hope she's getting adequate pain relief though.
Trysha,it's good you have "staff" hahaha, to worry about you.I'll probably be mummified before anyone notices I'm not around. Not kidding.

The penalty for adultery in ancient Greece involved hammering a radish into the adulterer's bottom with a mallet.Radishes were a lot longer and pointier in those days.

The mind boggles...….

Wonder why they chose radishes....which are very good for gouty problems among other excellent food values....
Carol the building managers have encountered very difficult situations like people dying in their apartments. Has happened on two occasions to them to my knowledge.
For me the irksome part is that I have provided names and telephone numbers for them to call if there are concerns. Also on the first day they called I had been talking with them separately..just small talk ...unfortunately I missed that phone call and they are not available on weekends....
Never mind...as you say caring people can be in short supply or non existent.
Another warm day loads of sunshine...must go for a walk and load up on vitD...the sunshine
vitamin.
Winning.....

So I had my iron infusion Thursday and this evening was suddenly bowled over by intense body aches, headache and fever. I've heard of flu-like side effects before but never experienced them from any of my prior infusions. Feel completely knocked out. Needed a grocery shop this evening but I'll just have to make do with what I have, can't seem to get out of bed. Hope the rest of you are well.

Hi guys, weve been parked up the river for a week fishing, freezing in the mornings and crap weather, (it is winter), but its so peaceful up here, and no people.

Carol yes she is sort of..i wish they would decide what they are doing n get it done. Of course everything stops at the weekend in the NHS and oh its a bank holiday on monday so guess nowts going to be done at least tuesday. They have put her on 3 hourly morphine now so hope that keeps it more under control.
Watch out for pointy radishes by the way...just incase you sit on one :)

Aw Izzie i hope you feel better soon. Have you told any doctor about these symptoms yet. Might worth mentioning .💞

Trysha the thing is caring people seem to have a knack of being there when you dont need them n not when you do... still its nice they care. Enjoy the sun n dont over do it or you will end up like an over cooked chicken 😃😃💕💕

Howdy stranger ☺. Nice to hear from you. Hope you are ok bar freezing. Enjoy the peace n quite. Hope catch lots of fish💕

Chris ...it must be awful for you all with the fires and the smoke.
Smoke is an insidious issue...very sneaky and dangerous.
Hope the air soon clears for you
Feel better soon

Hi Trev.lovely to hear from you.How you doin'? I envy you the solitude and peace.
But there again, the grass is always greener eh? It's cold here today. We were promised another heat wave at the end of August, so it had better get a move on.

The first ever YouTube video was an 18 second clip called "Me at the Zoo"

Do you think that it refers to clinics........
Carol you can visit us for the heat and loads of ☀️ sunshine plenty to share..
Good to se you Trev...wouldn’t mind a bit of cold air at the moment...
Kirsty...Sandy...missing you...

I read through the posts, as I have not been on this thread for awhile. Sometimes I need to step back. Chris I hope your hand will return to normal after holding onto that fire extinguisher. its a land of extremes, I sure wish I could trade off all this rain. Seems like we get all the rains that the drought stricken areas should be getting.

Thanks, Buff. My hand is still okay...;) It's still really thick with smoke here so I guess that means it's getting better....right??? I found plenty to do inside today. :) I hope everyone is having a good one!

Chris...it’s good to work inside with all that smoke around
Wonder how much longer the fires will continue......gives pause for thought about how it all started...just seems more fires than usual.
Pray for lots of rain everyone

Fires are influenced by cycles. I'm concerned about the number of wet years like the one we are going through which encourages faster growth of the forests. We are known for getting hot dry summers, and when we go through the next dry period there will be an elevated risk due to the increase in fuels from the growth that could lead to major fires.
The other problem is the forest industry replanting large areas of mixed wood forests with conifers after they cut. Conifers burn far hotter and faster than mixed forests.

Bufford..I think you should be advising the forestry commission....why are they not
making optimum solutions....instead of exposing thousands of people to debilitating smoke inhalation and loss of properties etc...
Hotter than ever here today......Carol are you still languishing in the cold......

I can see blue sky for the first time in over a month and a half! Yes, keep on raining mother nature! We had significant rain in the night and it's getting way better here... it would seem so anyhow. I'm hoping it stays this way!

Cheers all!

That’s good to hear Chris.....hope it keeps raining and puts out all the 🔥 fires.....and gives you all some lovely fresh air.
Stay safe

No Trysha,it's been a nice 18c today, but the temp will rise toward the weekend and Met.office is saying we're to have an Indian Summer until well into November.Darn it !!! I've been looking longingly at my winter woolies etc.

Victorian guidebooks advised women to put pins in their mouths to avoid being kissed in the dark when trains went through tunnels.....

I have been in contact with MNRF (government forestry) for many years over various forestry concerns. At one point they were going to level the forests we have been enjoying for decades right up to our property lines. They argued with us that it was both good for the economy and the environment boasting claims of accelerated wood fiber production through managed forests. It was ugly and infuriating. Basically they wanted to clear cut everything, then spray the land down with herbicides to ensure all old growth of the indigenous mixed forest, including berrry and food sources for animals would be killed and then plant conifers genetically altered to grow fast.

While we managed to stop logging near the property lines, they still hacked down the entire township to the north. Its now become wide open fields of engineered seedlings. Most of the wildlife has been displaced since nothing could live there, no food sources and little cover.

This is the first year in over ten years that its been quiet instead of listening to heavy equipment and saws tearing through the fragile Boreal forest.
The battle is far from finished, and I am getting their attention when I mention the build up of forest fuels that come with replanting conifer specific species that raise the fire threat. There is no such thing as sustainable forestry in this country, the industry runs on greed.

Seems to me that everything runs on greed.....food prices up,pharmaceuticals up,etc....pay offs everywhere?
Well done Bufford that you spoke up and took on the government...how is it that we never hear of these goings on.
Here’s hoping their seeding is not GM....
Carol..how many swallowed the pins?
Sounds like you have perfect weather still....nice bike rides before the snow takes over...
Going for a walk this afternoon along the shoreline of Lake Ontario......be nice to cool off after Physiotherapy...a painful experience with my shoulder...it has to be reintroduced to work after total rest.Hard to 💤 sleep with it and needed to put it into the sling again..
I can remove the sling indoors but have to use it outside when shopping ,walking etc.
The biggest problem is people coming up and touching my shoulder...leaning on it sometimes....painful...they want to know how it happened and all the gory details....this is from strangers in the street and on the bus...unbelievable.
Cant think what I look like...I am a careful dresser even stylish....
I hate to tell them I fell over my 👞 👠 👟.........shoe!!!
Chris is it still raining there? Has the smoke dissipated and the fires extinguished?
Take care

I can understand your frustrations, Buff. That's terrible to mess with nature on that level. There is none of the herbicide used here to my knowledge but it's anyone's guess what they plant where it's been logged, most of it looks like spruce to me.

One incident worth sharing here. For 30 years I used to walk the birch tree woods between two small lakes that have been leveled. This was a mature birch tree forest with little underbrush making walking quite easy. The blue berry patches were plentiful. I hunted the area for partridge, they too were numerous, and moose frequented the area.
These birch trees were older, dead wood coming down while young growth replacing the aged. Its not the kind of quality of wood the forest companies want, but ideal for supporting wildlife. This is a prime example of the northern Boreal forest at her best.

Along comes the land surveyors from the ministry of natural resources who deemed this land as under productive, imposing a so called 'prescription for forest renewal' as they call it. I did what I could to stop the logging but it went ahead.

They simply leveled the forest with a combination of bulldozers for the unmarketable timber and left the wood to rot, while taking some of the softwoods. The following summer they sprayed the entire cut over with herbicides killing off everything including the berry bushes. Essentially it became a desert devoid of living things, just dead crumbling bushes. It now awaits the tree planters who will plant genetically modified Jackpine and perhaps spruce.
What was once a healthy birch forest filled with wildlife that was at a lower fire risk, will now become a monoculture softwood tree farm prone to insect infestations carrying a much higher risk for fire. Softwood burn like gasoline when compared to deciduous forests.

Today I cried on the phone with a healthcare professional. A first, for me :p

Trying to get into a routine lately. I'm bad at routines, they bore me, but it's helpful to actually get things done.

Anyone read any good books or watch any good movies lately. I could use a nice distraction right now....

Sorry you are under the weather Izzie...it will get better...needs time and helpful medics
for a start
Depending on your reading tastes The Last of the Mohicans is good......also Ivanhoe....
I’ll let you know as I think of more.....
Carol is a good reader she might have a few book suggestions...
Feel better

Izzie,I'm sorry you're feeling low.We have a "What have you been reading" thread that you might find helpful. But John Connolly is a favourite of mine,as is Dean Koontz and Stephen King.It depends on your taste of course.People think King and Koontz are trashy horror writers, but nothing could be further from the truth.
I hope you feel better soon.

Trysha,I hope you're taking extra care while walking with your arm in a sling.
I know you're sensible,at least I thought you were until you tripped over your shoe on top of your other problems.I think you secretly enjoy hospital food. hahaha

I know you're all waiting with baited breath,so here goes....

Some of our shops have Christmas cards on display, the school's summer break isn't over yet,Unbelievable !!! well ,not actually.I also noticed stocking fillers and calendars. And believe me,I definitely wasn't looking.

Hi all just got home from visiting my mum at hospital...yes she is still there being messed about ie going for an xray then sent back to ward without it being done then for a scan same thing no scan done. Waiting to be transfered back to the hospital she was in to start with. Oh my days what happened to duty of care. Seems to me they couldnt care less.
Rant over. Hope to find you all as well as possible. Sending love and hugs to all. 💞💝

Carol oh dear yes, we have chistmas cards out at work too...whats the world coming too???x

Mandy...can you speak with the senior doctor about what’s happening to your mum....
it is totally unacceptable .So sorry you have to endure this shabby treatment...
Carol.....I turned down the steaks and the caviar when I was hospitalized....I don’t eat meat or fish.....vegetarian choice was extremely limited and unacceptable...it was meatless curry
and the other choice was a wierd anemic looking mysterious mid- eastern concoction......
A friend would bring me cheese and crackers, sometimes peanut butter sandwiches 🥪
Nutrition services placed two bottles of meal replacements on every tray....can’t stand them...
I was glad when the month sojourn was over and I was back in my own pea patch...
My weight has plummeted and I’m still trying to regain a bit....very hard...can’t really afford to lose it..
My forearm is improving ....my shoulder is slow to heal but it did have a piece snapped out of it....a chip I was told but it feels more like a chunk....painful at night..
Stores here have not yet put out any Christmas stuff but I’m sure it won’t be long before they follow suit.Really spoils Christmas..
I do my shopping Christmas Eve....
Stormy looking day today....waiting to wake us tonight before the thunder and lightening drama starts....

Hi Chris.....how are the fires and smoke settling down.....hope you are not being affected by
it still.
Carol.....the shops here are displaying all the Halloween stuff...thought you might like to know this just in case you need anything........just saying....
Anyone have any tips on eating.....I find it impossible right now.....off dinners ...can’t get through them...most I can eat is Rice Krispies...with lots of milk(skim)at breakfast time.
I never feel hungry and often go the whole day on water, tea and milk....

Thanks, Trysha. I'm coughing up crap that's black, surely it's due to the particulate matter in the area. Also my whole body aches from the pollution. It's as bad or worse than when I smoked a pack of cigarettes daily. Things are improving though, so there is a bit of relief. No more smoke for this guy. It may rain tonight... I pray for rain.

Chris..that’s terrible....you should be checked by your doctor and the province should be taking special care of you all....
You need to go to a fresh air place high in the mountains.
Wish there was something I could do for you..
In the face of this adversity my problems dissolve by the minute.
Feel better soon
