Why are they doing a CT and not a MRI? Has this been done to you often?
Hope all goes well. Colonoscopy prep is definately one of the most horid things we have to do caused by this illnes. :hug:

Hi Sanni,
It is a CT scan of the insides of intestines. I guess they can see more this way. I have had MRI's in the past, but didn't know they could see in your intestines, do they?

If I have to do that prep again, I think I'll cry!!!!:ymad:Hate it!!!

I may be wrong. But to my knowlege the MRI is the best way to see the insides of your intestine. Its newer tecnology then the CT and the CT gives out a ton of radiation so its not good if they do it a lot. The MRI ofc is a ton more expensive to do so I think that is one reason the CT is used. Like I said.. I may be wrong or getting some terms messed up (since in healtcare english is not my first language).

I have probably had 20 colonoscopys done to me in my lifetime. The prep is bad. I been told they do the prosedure in anestesia there? Is it so? Here they just give some relaxing meds and pain controll (if needed). Just to say.. one can get used to just about anything.
 
An Enterograph can be done via CT or MR.

Imaging via MR has improved significantly and studies indicate that the quality of images are now equal to that of CT but many doctors/radiographers still believe that the images done by CT are superior (crisper) when the it comes to the bowel.

Also, studies suggest, that as a person ages the effects of radiation lessen. I think, but don't quote me on this number, after the age of 45-50 CT'ing is of less concern.

That might be. Me being diagnosed as a child (teen) a CT and the radiation was something they had to consider after several had been done the docter said to me no more ever again. So for me its always an MRI.. thought the graphics was better with it too, but maybe not then. The CT is cool though cus you can see your own intestines.. the MRI pictures are impossible to understand I think.
 
I surely hear you about the CT and my son is in that same position. He has has a few CT done and the only thing that has stopped me freaking out completely, :lol:, is they reduced the radiation used. I think they call it a phase 1.

The other advantage of a CT is it is a much faster test. An MRE can take up to an hour for the images to be collected whereas a CTE takes a couple of minutes.
 
Definately faster. I think a CT can be done in ER but and MRI cant. But yeah.. For young people the radiation is definately something to atleast have knowlege about and be careful. Not sure how much the doctors really warn you of this untill its been done meny times.

It certainly is sanni. The doctors never say much about it but thankfully I have always found the radiographers and radiologists to be well on top of it. Thank goodness someone is keeping an eye out!

Yes, we get put out for colonoscopy with a twilight sleep you are awake, but dont remember. I never know anything or remember when I awaken.
This CT is newer. It can see inside the intestines. It's just for that. So I hope
it will be worth it. Just to know everything going on.
 
I have had 5 in my whole lifetime.
For cancer check next year they are doing an MRI, so I'm glad of that. That's why I kept putting this off, because of concerns about the radiation. But my Dr. feels this is the best way to see.

Well thanx Trev, we actually all love each other and you know that too! I think we gals have wormed our way into Robert's heart,whether he will admit it or not! I love you all and always want the best for you. Happy Halloween, even if you don't celebrate it! I don't like the dark side of it so i look at the light inside the jack o lantern as the light of Christ inside of me glowing outward. Think I read that somewhere too.:ghug:

Good days and bad. The stomachache and gerd have been bad lately. But, i'm hoping the new meds will help and the test next week.
Hope you are doing better, we really do miss you so much!!!:ghug:
 
i had better go do some work.
Cheryl dont leave us again. you had us worried and i have enough grey hair already.
 
It's pretty much over here, and I am sad about that because my fall season is also almost over, I'm sure. Fall's my favorite, can't beat the beauty and the temps. Will hate not being able to sit out on the deck at night...

Me too Cheryl! My favorite time. We talked about that. My hubs took me down to Maryland for the weekend for our anniversary 2 weekends ago and we went all over the place. Saw a huge beautiful waterfall at Swallow State park in Maryland. We went to Harper's Ferry on the way home too. Cool place. I accidently erased all my pictures from that weekend and am so mad at myself. But we went to the zoo last Friday and I still have all my pics from there. Wait till u see the one I got of Robert, the gorilla!!!:rof:please PM me your email address so when my hubs downloads them, I can send some your way. Plus I can say hello when you aren't here! IF U WANT!:tongue:

So they sis give u protonix??! That's good. What mg? I'm on 80 a say. Also on an antiapasmatice. Loads of fun!
 
Hey T, call me tomorrow. I did defy srs orsers and went to work today, so I'm feelin a bit worn down. I may try to sleep...I don't quite know yet. But the husband had to basically carry me out of the offfice. If I sleep now though, it will b 4am that I wake. So we willsee.

As for everyone else...my lovely ladies. (Yes, that includes u robert!!) I hope u r all well. Atleast as well aa u can b!! Love!!!!

I don't know the miligram yet. My insurance wont pay for it till tomorrow. I have a limit on how many scripts they'llpay for in one month! I'm over my limit with the ones he gave me.:ywow:

We don't have trick or treating here. Not really even holloween, even though some shops are trying to bring it in so people will spend on silly scary things.

I just got home from work. Have a doggy outing date with my friend and her dog in about 1.5 hours.. before that I had hoped to clean the house.. so better get to it. Not sure 1 hour is doable.. since I have to eat too. :eek2:

And we got cake at work. :dance:

Nothing wrong with cookery, so Trev, that's just too bad, lol! Halloween was good, thought I would have the evening at home to get chores done, but my son's plans fell thru so Mom rescued him and drove him around to fill that bucket.

Oh, I understand that all too well hon....the 11th will be 4 years for my mom, miss her as much now as I did right after we lost her.
