Does anyone else have left upper quadrant pain? My started there when from age 19 to 30 (off and on) then in remission for almost 20 years but back full force.

My left upper quadrant is almost always swollen and tender. Dr notes it each time but still doesn't know what it is. Sometime travels to right side.

I can't find anything about pain in this area hoping someone here can shed light.

None of my test results show anything in this area. Strange? I have a feeling they will find something there if they do surgery.

The mystery continues...

It's common with IBS. You stomach is on the left side and with IBS when food exits the stomach it triggers spasms. Soupdragon and I have been talking about this a lot recently. We've got IBS and Crohn's both. Not unusual since 20% of the population has some level of IBS to begin with.

It could also simply be a patch of diseased intestine anywhere in that area. There's both small and large intestine in the upper left quadrant.

I remember 30 years ago the doctor showing me something in the upper left quadrant on the Barrium xray. He asked me if I was under stress in school. I was 22 married with kids. I looked young. I weighed about 90 then.

Anyway, as the years have gone by that pain keeps returning. I figure 30 years is long enough to develop into something nasty. Wish I remember the dr. name from back then. Probably not even alive now.

It be something to get a hold of 30 year old Xrays.

Thanks for explaining its common. I couldn't find anything on the left online.

Yeah, I get that from time to time. No idea what that's all about, just another on a list of assorted aches and pains. Sorry I can't give any more insight.
