I had a pelvic MRI done last Monday to investigate my ongoing rectal pressure. I got my results yesterday. Normal. Of course, this is great news. But then what is causing all my discomfort?! This has been going on for months. Some days are better than others, and lately I have even had days when I don’t have any symptoms at all. But it always comes back. It is difficult to sit at times and can make a 9-5 sometimes unbearable.

My GI is stumped. Any thoughts at all what this could be???

I've never heard of it myself but I did a google search and found other people with a similar issue. Here are the possible causes I found:

Pudendal nerve pain also called cyclist’s syndrome, pudendal canal syndrome, or alcock’s syndrome.

If it's not that the site was kind enough to list a bunch of other illnesses its commonly mistaken for: "Those most often associated with or confused with PN are chronic non-bacterial prostatitis, levator ani syndrome, proctalgia fugax, interstitial cystitis, vulvodynia, vestibulitis, chronic pelvic pain syndrome, hemorrhoids, piriformis syndrome, coccydynia, ischial bursitis, idiopathic (of unknown cause) orchialgia, or idiopathic prostadynia."

This link talks about what causes it, how its, treated and how they test for it etc. http://www.pudendal.info/

Dunno if that helps but at least you have a list of possible conditions your doctor can test for.

Wow, Crabby, that was a lot of research you did. You rock!

Joan has levator ani syndrome, and I have talked about this with her. I think that, and a few other conditions you listed may need to be discussed with my GI.

Once again, thanks for all your hard work!
