Hi shazz!!! How are you feeling? You doing okay??

I am so happy that you had your surgery and are on the road to recovery!! Don't rush trying to get up and about. Take the pain meds when they offer :) I stayed drugged up the entire time in the hospital LOL. Anyway, I hope you are doing okay and hope for a speedy recovery

Congrats on the op...I know you were looking forward to it. I hope your stoma gives you the life you've been missing, like it has for most of us here :) Keep us updated on your progress, and of course, any questions we're here for you :)

So glad it all went well. Lets hope you soon start feeling well and your stoma is well behaved. It won't be long before proper food!!
How long do they think you will need to stay in?
Best wishes for a super speedy recovery,
LMH

Take it easy for the first few weeks!! Hope this op is the beginning of a new life for you!!

Glad you are all done girl! Hope you are looking after yourself and resting! How are you feeling? Healing thoughts being sent your way!

Thank you so much for all your positive wishes. I am feeling quite good. My surgeon came to see me this morning and couldn't believe I was out of bed less than 8 hours after he finished with me in the or. Was sick earlier due to the fentanyl I am on. Its the patient controlled button one and now I have had some anti sickness tablets its keeping the pain at bay. Am still resting and taking things easy. Still got a catheter so dont even have to get out of bed to pee! Am having some pasta for my tea then am going to sleep. Will update nor tomorrow. Hope all you lovely folks are well. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I hope you dont try to do too much too soon! Arent catheters a wonder. I remember laying there after Stan was born with a catheter in thinking....HAH! I can just lie here...WOW!

Careful with the eating bit! Really! And same with walking around, first few days be careful. Then more walking and eating every day thereafter. Its hard to be patient, but it will help in the long run. So...the stoma is working already? Or not just yet?

I want to echo the caution with the eating! I'm sitting here with a friend of mine who's a nurse and she says that eating pasta on the first day is a really bad idea. It's supposed to be clear fluids till you get bowel sounds, then full liquid diet, then soft bland foods, and finally real food. Don't eat the pasta!!! I'm afraid you'll regret it and wind up with a blockage or something.

Glad it went well, Shazz! Good to see you are taking it easy too! Hope you continue to do well :) sending hugs over for you!

Already had a quick chat wiv you today but wanted to say well done again  Hoping you are having a good rest and expect to get an update tomorrow!

Xxx

Stoma is working already and has mostly liquid output at the moment. Only had 3 pieces of pasta and chewed them really well. Bit of wind pain but only used the pain pump 3 times last night and have not got much pain at the moment. Just emptied my bag for the first time, with help, not bad. Got it all in the bowl and none over me or anywhere else. Didnt do anything else yesterday, just sat and slept on and off. Had a good nights sleep last night. Have decided to limit my food to soups and more mushy stuff. The surgeon did say yesterday he wants me to eat straight away but would be happier with ready brek and soups for a while I think. Not eaten solid food for a while before my op so will give my tummy a chance to wake up slowly. Will update more later. Xxxx

I think you are wise to be cautious about eating solids too quickly as well. Doubt the surgeon realizes how long its been for you to eat normally. Baby steps!

You are doing really well sweetheart!!!

Be careful with the solid food Shaz.
My surgeon encouraged me to eat solids the day after surgery - to my detriment.
I followed his advice, and it created a blockage.
I was unbelievably unwell and didn't eat for about another week.
It was really horrible.
Sounds like you're going great though - congratulations!!

Thank you for all your advice and support. Have had some really runny ready brek and have only had about 5 spoonfuls. That was plenty for me. The fentanyl pump is coming down cause its is making me itch like mad! Just had a lovely cup of tea with sugar mmmmm. Not been able to drink tea for over 16 months! Nothing like a nice cuppa in the morning. Will update later. Docs will be around in a bit. See what they have got to say. Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Glad you had a good night hun :) Perhaps see about having a jacket potato as well, that's all I ate for while after the op (I scooped the tatty out of the skin of course). It tasted really lush with a bit of butter and eventually some grated cheese.

Good idea AB. Or have some mashed potato. Had chicken soup for my lunch. Was lovely. Catheter is out and gone is the fentanyl pain pump. Was making me itch something fierce! Have emptied my bag a few times with supervision but have not yet changed it completely. Will do that monday I expect. Coping ok at the moment

Glad you are doing so well. If you keep on like this you'll be able to escape in no time!
Hope you enjoy your cuppa in the morning.

That first cuppa....ahhhh. And the first baked potato..bliss. My first soup was heaven.

You are doing so great. Glad you're off the pain pump. Me too...I was one big ITCH on morphine..shudder.

I think you are doing FABULOUS DARLING!!

Hi Shazz,
Good to hear you are recovering well and so upbeat after your surgery.
Hope you continue to make a swift recovery.
Hugs and Best wishes

PS: I think Britain has our winter weather, usually our Niagara Peninsula is heavy with snow but this year it is elsewhere so far.
Today is very sunny and springlike, no saying how long that will last.

Hahahahaha trysha was watching the snow from the window this morning. Its raining now though. Am so enjoying my morning cuppa and my chicken soup for lunch today was divine! Mostly resting and learning about my stoma. Did my first unassisted empty today and can now do it on my own! Will have a go at changing it on monday when I see the stoma nurse again. Got my kit bag and have got lots of goodies in there. Will update again tomorrow. Going to sleep now. Night night everyone xxxxxxx

I did until the dreaded UTI appeared. But if that is the only set back I have I will take it, and the antibiotics, and shut up! The nurses are fab. Overworked and understaffed and seriously underpaid but wonderful all the same. More later. Am starting to flush my system with lots of water. Xxxxxxx

have updated my signature as well.

Yup...dreaded UTI, almost inevetible with the surgery you've had. Me too. Took a few rounds of antibiotics to kill it off. Grrrrrrr.

Stupid infections!!! I had a blood infection...just sayin' that the test to determine that that was the problem was the most pain I've ever had in my life! The lady that did the test actually apologized to me before she started...and the others on the ward were asking me for a day afterwards if I was ok. Brutal. Damn hospitals and their germs....grrrrrr.....

Just poppin in to say congrats on your new stoma. I hope it brings you good health and as much happiness as Bilbo has brought to me!!!

Take it slow and easy, get lots of rest, and fluids, fluids, fluids!!! Keep hydrated!!
