I have a business trip coming up this weekend and I am so nervous! I have travelled recently, but only for pleasure, and everything has been fine. But for this trip I have to fly and spend the weekend with customers and be on my feet all day. I am just nervous about making it thru the event and not letting my employer down if anything funky happens.

Plus, I just started a new anti-depressant and it is making me retain water so my feet and legs are swollen and my stomach is huge and I am freaking about what to wear!

I am going to Memphis and am super pissed I won't be able to eat barbeque and all that other good (bad) stuff!

End of venting. Just needed to get that all out. - Amy

Good luck with your trip Ames I hope that you come through pain free and without discomfort.

Hi there, try not to worry, and as for the swelling try to keep your feet elevated and moving. I drink alot of water so it helps to flush retention. Avoid salt or sodium, and it is hard if you are eating out, they use it everywhere. Hopefully they have chicken (I think you are a vegan?) but true, they usually have potato salads, salads, all the niice stuff we can't eat! I would take some digestive enzymes and probiotics. Imodium just in case (advanced ones with gas and bloat reducer). I havent travelled in a long time but I usually take a pharmacy of everything with me lol. Good luck and have fun! Let us know how you make out.

I wish you happy travels! Eat smart and stay calm and the customers/ your employer will love you!

Aww, Ames. I'm sure I'll be the same as you the first time I go out of town anywhere. I understand how you are nervous since it's not a luxury vacation, but a work related one where you'll be running around all day. Hopefully your employer (and coworkers) will be sensitive to your issues if they do come up, but as long as you are careful with what you eat and drink lots of water and elevate your feet in the hotel room at night I think you will survive :) Let us know how it goes!

Good Luck Amy

Pack everything for worse case scenarios! Loads of drugs, and if flying, try to walk around often to avoid that lovely elephantitis look, so in Vogue right now, Not!
This is your mantra, 'I'm going to be fine, I am'
xxx

Thanks for the encouragment everyone! I packed lots of extra undies and three (dark) dresses b/c I couldn't decide! I also stopped at the health food store to get some of my favorite protien bars to stick in my purse in a food emergency!

I am excited to visit Graceland so I can say I pooped in Elvis' bathroom!

Amy!
I'm appalled!
You won't really poo in Elvis's bog will you? ha ha

Happy travelling!
xx

Hi Amy,
Memphis is a great town. I'm a seasoned business traveler and it is hard when you're not feeling well.

I always pack extra underwear. Don't forget to take your meds. Hardest part for me is dining - new restaurants, not part of daily routine. Stick to comfort foods as best you can and don't be pressured into eating something you know will not agree with you.

Have fun at Graceland!

I hope you have a good business trip! :) And like Pen said try to aviod salt if you are retaining water and drink a lot of fluids.

Just returned from Memphis. Graceland was great but Memphis SUCKS for vegans! Someone actually asked me, "So you don't eat meat - do you eat pork?" Really? I didn't realize pork was in its own category. On top of that, everything is fried. EVERYTHING.

So, I was STARVING for 48 hours. I stopped at PF Changs on my way home from the airport and just devoured an entire order of veggie chow fun.

The biz event went great. I had plenty of energy and held up really well. I made an excellent footwear choice and had no pain in my back all day! (Not used to standing all day!). Slept like a champ at the hotel, no accidents, everything went smooth as glass.

Thanks again for all your support and well wishes! - Ames

YAY! Amy
Well done hun

Everything fried? mmmmmm I wonder, is THAT why the King died?

So glad everything went well, Ames! :)

By the way...my husband and I roasted red peppers today for Mediterranean tuna noodle casserole, and they turned out great! We'll definitely be roasting more peppers soon. It was really fun too!

I would have loved a peanut butter and banana sandwich - but not fried! Man, they fry everything in the south! It was rough, but I survived!
