Hey everyone, quick update to me and my situation. So surgery went well and I continue to recover well. They took lots of biopsies and I dont get those results back for another week. Anyway, when they did my surgery, they cleared a major blockage in my illeum....YAY!! So know, I STINK!! I mean, I can finally pass gas with ease, and Im not going to the loo all the time! Things are looking up for me, but it sure does smell awful!! I mean everytime I pass gas or have a bm it smells like DEATH!! It is awful, Im not sure what to think of it, or why....but its concerning me. Also, my bms are really small, I mean really thin, like pinky finger thin....

So Im wondering if any of you have had this experience? Not Diahrea or Constipation, not regular though...a little blood tinge, but not much. My appatite is not good, but Im not loosing weight. Im just hangin in there, and prayin I keep goin in the right direction. So any input would help...or any answers as to why this is happening. I have some moderate pain, I can definately feel where they took biopsies, but man....I STINK!!:stinks:

Well, I haven't had abdominal surgury for Crohn's, but I did have an abdominal hysterectomy, and WHOA talk about being able to clear a room! I had a large fibroid laying on my kidneys and blocking my bowel. It was aweful, the doc just said after surgury you have to pass all the bad stuff that had been lurking in there. It took a few weeks of this "purging" I call it before things began smelling, well, normal for me lol!

Not to be too gross, but some of it is dried blood left over from the surgury and biopsies. Also, they introduce air into the colon when they biopsy and that turns to gas. Some of it is bowel matter that was fermenting during and after the surgury as well, and some is the anethesia, which accounts for your lack of appetite too. Your stools being thin could be just from not eating a normal diet and the surgury, mine were like that too.

TMI I know, sorry, but that was my doc's explanation. Don't be embarrassed to tell them your concerns, just so you have one less thing to worry about while you recover.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery Bev! Sending healing thoughts and hugs your way!

Speedy Recovery Bev!

Jeanette's right, I stunk like a pole cat after my hysterectomy, it's cos they fill your pelvic cavity up with carbon gas! This helps to move all other organs out of the way, it creates a dome shape, so the surgeon can navigate easier.
And the pain after, My God! It really hurts to fart, they call it shoulder tip pain, dunno why?
Things will settle down soon, once you've passed all the carbon gas! My BMs were neither here nor there too! But they settled down too once I'd got home, psychological or wot?
Take care
xxxx
