I'm having some very painful muscle spasms in my lower back. I usually only get them when I have an obstruction but I recognise the symptoms of that now and I know I don't have one right now, just the spasms.
I googled it and apparently they're caused by inflammation of the muscles so I figured maybe other Crohnies get them. If you do, how do you stop them? At the moment I just have a hot water bottle and 2 paracetamol, but I can't stay like that forever unfortunately!

This is how I was initially presenting. Apparently if you have mesentery inflammation as well it can cause this. It can also just be referred pain. For me, heating pads are the way to go! I also have percocet for when it gets really really bad. A bath can be nice too!

It sucks! Hang in there!

Thanks, I do find a nice hot bath can help! They're reaaally painful at the moment so I may have to look into meds to help it. But I'll have a look for some heating pads too :)

I know here in Canada you can get a generic heating pad at a pharmacy for pretty cheap. Better than a hot water bottle because you don't need to fill them up all the time. I know "pharmacy" is a very different thing in at least parts of Europe than here though - I am Swiss too and I remember going into one for the first time there and not knowing what the heck was going on!

Do it. Such a worthwhile investment. It can really help the belly pain too! I initially got it for horrid menstruation cramps. I literally travel with it and keep an one at work!

Hi Everyone!:)
I'm a newbie to the forum but not to Crohn's. (30 yrs.) So, yeah I get really bad back aches too...not just the spasms. It didn't help that I was rear-end while driving a pick-up truck either. Heating pads are great for the low level days but see if your doc will give you ultram for the higher level days...it's not a narcotic like percs. Save those for the extreme level days.
If at all possible try walking. Either on a treadmil if you have on or quick little ones around the neighborhood. It's get the muscles back there to losen up somewhat....then sit on the heat'n pad while you wait for the ultrams to kick in.
Good luck.....there's nothing worse than waking up to the bad back issues...UGH!!
