personal question for the girls

*so embarrassed!*

when your mouth ulcers do you get them 'down below' too? Think I might need to go to doctor :-s

No, I haven't - just mouth/nose ulcers....if you have them 'down there' I would go get them checked just in case!.....

Ya I'd get it checked out. I think when I was a kid (I was diagnosed as a child and was much sicker then too) I used to get something similar to canker sores in your mouth in the folds of the labia but I haven't had that in a REALLY long time. I don't know if it was Crohn's related or even a possible hygiene issue or fungal, no idea because I never told my mom and had it checked out. Best to have it looked at, tested and get some sort of cream for it either way so you can start feeling better.

not sure what the fufu looks like.. but yeah, going to the dentist today to get checked out for pyostomatits vegetans :-(

Oh love you :( Ulcers down below hurt real bad.

Last year just before I was diagnosed I had ulcers down below, I also had a massive swelling (abscess) that turned into a rectovaginal fistula. I had swabs done and everything came back clear for any STD's etc, so I believe they were there because of the abscess. When the first Dr had a look she thought I might have something called a bartholin's cyst, but it didn't end up being that.

Deffo get in to see the Dr so you can have all the relevant tests done, and get treated asap.

In the meantime the only thing that helped with the pain was aloe vera gel (directly from an aloe vera plant) It was very soothing.

thanks soybean.. yeah, I've had a bartholins cyst before 9several times had to be drained :-s) this isn't like that though.. the labia are raw and sore and bleeding.. I can't see but it feels like ulcers :-(

Can you use a mirror and take a look? Neosporin might help too until you get it checked out.

i think actually, quite a few ladies, like soybean, do mention fistulas, which possibly start with ulceration or abcess that go right through to rectum. I wonder if sterile wipes would be good, we never know what has spread there from crohns. not sure you're gonna get the help you need with a flippant doc. try another or a GI pref lady, if not try ibd nurse. she might help, but good luck and i hope it heals soon

I agree that going to get another opinion is definitely a good idea, and if you find a doctor who agrees with your opinion of it being crohns related that will be a great result.
But should that fail (and please don't take this the wrong way) it might be worth trying the herpes medication or alternatively getting an STD check done. This would just mean that you could have herpes or any another STD completely ruled out as the cause of this problem so that you don't have to keep arguing with the doctors when they don't listen to you - you will be able to back up your assertions with solid evidence.
Believe me when I say I'm only advising this because of personal experience. One of my doctors wouldn't let me go off a drug that was causing my hair loss because he kept claiming it could have been caused by my implanon implant. Eventually I just had to get it removed so I could prove that it wasn't the cause and I finally got the 'ok' for a change of medication. Sometimes you just have to work with the system, flawed though it is.

Test for herepes sure but treat it as if it were with an oral medication? I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Speak with your GI right away before doing that. If you KNOW that its not herpes (not sexually active etc) then move onto another doc.

I cant believe he gave you the meds before the tests were back!? And yes, Crabby is right (as usual!) you dont know what those meds will do with your crohns meds, or even to your crohns.

(slaps dr senseless clear from Dunstable UK!!!) Sorry, couldnt resist.

thanks girls :)

I totally get you f_else ;-).. that's the only reason I agreed to the testing.. Doc reckons it's the coldsore version not std. I will fill the script if the blood results come back positive but I really don't want to take anything that may interfere with my CTE on thursday .. results should be back on thursday (tomorrow is ANZAC day so public holiday)
