I have medical insurance, but they will not cover the Remicade because it is being administered in a hospital and not at a home setting? This means i have nothing to cover the costs of the drug, which i am being told will cost $5000 each treatment. I have not been to work in three months, and my unemployment insurance from the government ended last week. I am in big need of some advice!

I live in Quebec if that helps any?

Has your doctor given you the contact number for Remicade Canada? They have various programs to assist/support people who can't pay. I've not been on Remicade for a while, but there is a program to apply for assistance. Once you contact them, they might try to get your insurance company to pay, and if they won't, then the program will help you by subsidizing the costs.

Hopefully, someone with a better answer will come and answer your question more precisely---the process in BC is different than Quebec.

I am in Quebec, and for me my Doctor refered me to experts from Bio Advance in order to get this treatement. They fill out the inssurance papers and make all the arragement.

Maybe you should ask your doctor about Bio advance and see if they can make these arragements. You should not have any problems getting the medicine. Even if it's given at home.

In Ontario, we have a provincial insurance coverage - Trillium Drug Plan. I understand that they pick up the cost when you are not covered by another insurance company (there is a deductible which you must cover, it is based on your income). I would imagine Quebec would have some sort of coverage as well???

Tesscorm, the system is Quebec is generally similar to but different in details from the one in Ontario (links above).
For more about the Ontario system and its quirks (to put it politely), see here.

Sour_kroutz, I hope your situation has improved. If you are still having problems, don't hesitate to contact your MPP and/or the Ombudsman's (Protecteur du citoyen's) office. Many Crohn's patients who fall through the cracks in Ontario have to do the same thing.

Good luck!
