I was doing reading on Remicade for a loved one with Crohn's. The warnings state people with neurological disorders such as Epilepsy should probably not. Does anyone know if this is true in all cases, or does it depend on the severity of the disorder?

Thank you

I'm sure someone knows. Lets see if we can get you some help cause I don't know but my guess is that it depends on the severity.

I am unaware of this myself - but maybe it has something to do with possible drug interactions with some anti-siezure medications. Ask a pharmacist they would know.

As to other reasons to avoid Remicade - not sure.

Hope someone else can chime in - Isn't there a new doctor somewhere on this site?

I have done a little research and I've not found any information stating it should not be used. Most of the info out there states that people with epilepsy, MS or other neurological conditions may not be able to handle the effects of the drug. Consult with your doctor before taking, etc.

It sounds to me like it would be based on a number of factors, like you said WhiteRose, depending on the severity of the epilepsy and the severity of the Crohn's. Would the possible benefit outweigh the possible risks? Something his doctor would have to discuss with him.

Good luck, I hope someone with a little more knowledge is able to help!

This is one of a several places I have found that mentions Epilepsy and warning about using Remicade. http://www.livestrong.com/article/154602-about-remicade/

I'm still not sure though since hers is considered mild and controlled by medication. I'd like to know more before going to her with more information. She's been really ill for months - and would sure love to see something offer her some relief.

It actually states that if you have it you should tell the doctor - doesn't say to not use it....

Yes sorry that is true. I've read many articles my head is a bit scrambled. lol Anyway, the warning itself may be enough to make my friend refuse to investigate. I was hoping to try to get some more concrete information before going to her about it.
