Hi everyone, I was hoping to give a normal run of the mill update but it's not going to be that.

So Grace gets up from a 2.5 hour nap.
She's happy lying down but stands up and then crumpled to the floor.
I turned her over and it took a good 2 minutes for her to come too.

Called her rheumatologist and GP
and they both said bed rest and
If it happens again to take her to the er.:yfaint:

They both asked if it could have been a seizure but having never seen one I have no idea.

Does anyone here have experience with seizures?

I think this happened to her a couple days ago but wasn't in the room with her. I just thought she was sleep walking and that's why she was confused.

Sounds like a blood pressure issue (but I'm definitely not a doctor). I had lots of issues with BP and passing out, particularly with my second pregnancy. I'd stand up or move abruptly and my BP would bottom out.

I was also thinking blood pressure. My daughter has fainted after getting up too quickly after taking a nap. We've been told it's called "orthostatic hypotension."

EEG can tell you
Quick easy test
There are longer EEG if the quick one is abnormal then there is a 24 hour and 72 hour hour one
Plus a video EEG done inpatient

Neuro would be best to determine if it's a seizure or not

The epilepsy foundation can put you in touch with local families
Seizures are more likely with a family history ( I think )
Ds was 6 when he did weird thing which resulted in lots of tests

Warning of your child is prone to headaches especially migraines
There will be an abnormal EEG

Thanks everyone. She's still acting tired and off but hopefully we'll get thru the night without the er.

My twin's (two of her four) children have Epilepsy.
I've never seen them have seizures.
They don't live near by.

I'm thinking BP or blood sugar.

She's telling me the tornado is still spinning in her head but it's smaller now.:yfaint:

I sure hope not. Out of all of Jae's health hells, it is the one I hate the most. The meds for it are horrible. Did she go limp like passing out or rigid or jerking?

Limp not rigid or jerking.
The nurse said in most cases they urinate or pass stool during a seizure.
I never remember my twin saying that about her kids.

Sounds similar to what O does which is fainting. happens when she changes position to rapidly. She does this weird back arching thing and her eyes roll around in her head. It was uncomfortable watching it the first time but the docs assured me it was just fainting.

Then T supposedly had a real seizure at softball. I wasn't there but the coaches and other parents said that was what it was. ER visit, neuro and in the end couldn't find anything. The big concern was it was a possible side effect of a med she was on. Have you checked the profiles on her meds?

I have an epileptic dog and surprisingly they act very similar to humans. One thing the vet told us to do was video an episode. Maybe try that if she does it again. This way when you take her in, you have something to show the docs.

Oh dear, I hope it wasn't a seizure! A close friend has a 7 year old daughter diagnosed with epilepsy last year. This does not sound like the seizures she has had, but I know not all seizures are the same. My friend's daughter's seizures are really not that obvious to say, a passer-by. But, she cannot move or speak when it is happening. If she is sitting when she has a seizure, that is how she stays until it is over. She remains quite rigid, and just stares straight ahead. She does not soil herself, as the nurse suggested to you. And she has no recollection of the event, except that she feels exhausted afterward.

No, I think they do that sometimes, but my daughter never has.

Going limp makes me think she's passing out. Does she ever feel her heart is racing? Orthostatic hypotension is one thought. Another thought is postural orthostatic tachycardia (POTS). I can't remember, did anyone suspect Ehlers-Danlos with your daughter? POTS is common with it. Your daughter is too young for all this!

When my girls started having seizures, they had a brain MRI, EEG, ECG and echocardiogram. You might also request a tilt table test since it seems to be orthostatic.

O's last fainting episode was in the shower and she lost her bowels. That got everyone's hair up suspecting seizure but I swear she is just an orthostatic fainter with Crohns thus the loose bowels!

Yes, EDS might be a future dx.
Her GP called this morning and said he didn't think seizure.
But did say she needs to head to the ER if it happens again.

He thought low BP also but brought up pain.
He said it's it possible that pain could have made her pass out?
I'm not sure.

Has any of your kids passed out from pain?

Hope it doesn't keep happening. The bp makes sense, you would think she would be very distressed for a while before passing out from pain.

My daughter has passed out from pain before. Typically pain that makes you pass out is considered 10 on the pain scale (out pf 10). She was in a LOT of pain and it was visible - white face, tears, nausea, writhing - that kind of thing. She needed IV morphine for that.

It sounds a lot more like low BP. Kids who have naturally low BP have to be very careful getting up, according to our pediatrician.

Farmwife, my mother has passed out on a few occasions over the years from pain. One time as a teenager when her finger got slammed in a door, another from pain from appendicitis, and most recently from IBS cramps while she was using the bathroom.

Thanks again everyone.:rosette2:
Well her pain was horrible for two day but better today.
Twice she acted as if she would fall after standing but was able to stay with it

Today she was fine.

It does sound like orthostatic hypotension.

If it they usually know they are going faint before they do, and need to get themself in a safe position . Eg closer to the ground. Faint doesn't usually result to injury and the fall can.

Yes, Jae has passed out twice recently from pain. Definitely a possibility. A couple of weeks ago I brought up to her PCP that she had twice been on the toilet and got up and passed out on way to bedroom. She had been in a lot of menstrual/abdominal pain, having diarrhea and was probably dehydrated from not eating and drinking. He thought she had three reasonable reasons why (bleeding, pain and dehydration) from that, and felt it would have been more surprising if she hadn't passed out.

I'm so glad she is feeling better Farmwife!! Hope it stays that way.
