Not only do I not sleep enough, usually 6 hrs, but because of my job sometimes I have to sleep during the day and sometimes at night. It's hard on my system going back and forth like that.

Hmm, just watched a 'health check' TV news blurb that, (and it was one of those that provided an overly brief synopsis.. like TV is infamous for, providing a headline with little or no detail) stated adults fare better with 6 - 7 hours of sleep a nite vs those who had 8 hours + a nite... whereas kids fared better on just the opposite. I don't recall the name of the medical journal this study was originally posted in to confirm..

Anyway, with my work, I often get less than 6 hours of sleep, then work 12 - 14 hrs, then come home... sometimes I crash, other times my regular schedule just insists on keeping the same hours... which truly screws up my circadian (sp?) rythm. Oddly enuff, my IBD symptoms usually react well to my disrupted sleep patterns, which is just NOT what everyone recommends. I don't recommend it either... just think my body reacts in a defensive way while under this stress, and that long term I KNOW it isn't doing my body any good. does that make sense???

I sleep approximately 8 hours every night.
I try to keep myself on a schedule for rest and diet
..find that I feel better that way.

I sleep less than 8 hrs a night as I start work really early but tend to have a 1-2 hr nap when I get home! Lately, I've been dealing with alot of pain and more tired than usual. Argh! :ybatty:

I sleep near 5 maybe 6 hours. and usually try to squeeze in a nap 2 days a week. (usually on my off days)

Hey windowfitter. Lack of sleep can really impact on this disease. Some folks see it as natural... the aches, the insecurity, whatever the reason(s) may be. But it's not something to be taken lightly. It may not rate high based on other effects you are experiencing from the diagnosis, but you maybe might want to consult with a doctor about this. It may be the most easily rectifiable of your current symptoms, and any improvement in it will have short/long term direct benefits.

windowfitter, you must rest more, it will give your body more cahnce to recharge its batteries, ready for the next onsloot of disease, kind reagrsd sahron x

lately i cant get to sleep unless i'm really shattered, so i go to bed late, sometimes in the early hours. but am still restless from 8.30am onwards so overall, i dont get 8 hours sleep very often. sometimes the lack of sleep catches up on me after a week or so, and then i sleep for hours, then back on the crazy routine again.

The past few weeks I've been getting to sleep between 4 and 6 in the morning. I wake up anytime between 8 and 10 in the morning as well. Oh I can't wait till my head allows me to fall asleep at a reasonable time.

I work evenings specifically for this reason. I sleep in as much as I need and just go to bed when I get home from work. That schedule make a huge difference for my health. Sleep deprivation is one of my biggest exacerbators. Trying to get up for school as a teenager I'd usually get up with the alarm clock, crawl out of bed, and wake up enough about half way to the shower to collapse in pain.

I get 7-8 hrs a night. But that never seems to be enough. Heck with a nap during the week. For me its usually that after dinner I fall asleep on the sofa until my husband wakes me up to move to bed and I'm out the rest of the night. Except for me I tend to wake up at least 3 times a night. So I guess with that said, it may not actually be 7-8hrs.

i always wake up during the night it really annoys me so i get around 6 hours

I'll say this, my GI has experiments and his mice always exhibit more colitis symptoms on less sleep. Just one more thing on top of the book on sleep's benefits we all know. We do the most repairing (and muscle growth) while sleeping.

I'm pretty sure he gave it to them, but I try not to think about it. :(

Edit: to add, if you get C diff or other "bugs" or infections, colitis can crop up then too. Colitis just means Inflammation of the colon, by definition. I think the doc gave the mice colitis, or bred them to have it.

I used to sleep like 12-16 hours a day and still do sometimes, then other times I am lucky to get an hour of sleep a day. The past 2 years it has been hard to actually sleep , usually with in an hour or 2 i wake up in killer pain. Adventually i just get totally exausted tho and sleep for 6-12 hours. Just a coupple weeks ago I managed to sleep for almost a full 48 hours, mind you I had been awake for almost 4 days tho so... i chose 8+ but that is always changing for me

Sometimes I sleep well, but sometimes I am up for up to 80 hours at a time. This is due to poor mental health, not physical. Amongst other things I have paranoid schizophrenia.

dlzoidberg - you are double whammied as far as health goes. I use to work with individuals with schizophrenia so I have an idea how difficult that can be!

As for my sleep - I go in spurts. I can have difficulty for months falling asleep at the wee hours of the morning having to get up early or sleep for hours and hours at a time. My circadian rhythm has always been messed up!
