Small Bowel Enema

Who's had one? Have you ever been sedated?

I have to have one (possibly next week) and the last time I had it done I threw up all over the place because the tube made me gag so much. So I'm just curious if anyone has been sedated for it. I know they do it for kids.

I've had a barium enema before (barium up the butt) where they did x-rays after and was not sedated (I was 9 years old then too, not fun). I never vomited.

There's the barium swallow where you drink it yourself. What are they forcing into you?

I had to clean out before my surgery and drink two huge jugs of awful stuff and couldn't do it so they put a tube through my nose and into my stomach. It hurt and I gagged a lot but once it was in there I was fine. I don't know what they are trying to get you to consume but perhaps drinking it yourself or having a tube put down your nose may be a better option.

Unless you don't mean to say enema and are talking about an endoscopy where they put a camera down your throat. They can sedate you for that (I had one last year and was put under for it).
