Has anyone experienced chest pain and a sore throat from pentasa?
My daughter started pentasa 3 days ago and has been complaining
of these symptoms .
She has only started at 1 tablet ( 500mg ) to increase to 5 over a few weeks.

Sore throat is a pretty common side effect of Pentasa. When you say chest pain, can you elaborate on exactly what she's feeling and where?

David
She has tightness in the middle and hurts more when
she breathes in
I might stop the pentasa for a few days to see if it is that
is the problem

Please be sure to discuss that idea with her doctor before stopping it. :) He or she may have additional ideas or suggestions.

I hope she feels better soon, that must be rough :(

Thanks David

I rang the nurse and she will get back to me after she
talks to the doctor but she said to stop the tablets as
she had a similar reaction to sulfasalazine and salofalk
but this time there is no diarrhea

update

About a week ago my daughter started getting constant stabbing chest pain so we went to the GP he thought it might be from her back so he cracked it and she said it felt a bit better.

Well today the pain started to get worse and travel down her arm...so back to the GP and he did a ECG something came back abnormal so he sent us to the hospital.

I was that scared i don't know how i drove there.

When we got there more tests were done and the same thing was on that ECG... they did mention it but i can't remember the name. They said this would be normal for a 10 year old but not at 15. An ultrasound was done which showed some fluid around the heart but the doctor said it was nothing to worry about. Her heart rate was 116 just laying there.

I also mentioned the pentasa but they weren't too sure so they rang the childrens hospital . The doctor there said to check her legs incase she had any pain or redness which could indicate a blood clot that could travel up.She had none of those symptoms.

They monitored her all day and they sent us home .
I've been told to stop the pentasa and if the pain hasn't gone away in 2 day or gets worse to go back and then they would look further into this. They think it might be the pentasa .At this stage they didn't think it was an emergency.

So now we are home and i'm too scared to sleep incase something happens....

Wow, that's really scary :( I wish they had more answers for you.

*hugs*

Hopefully getting off the Pentasa will resolve this. If it does, I wouldn't let them put her on any other mesalamine formulations.

It was scary.. i'm still shaken up this morning.
I was hoping it was all a bad dream. Now fingers crossed it is the pentasa causing this otherwise back to the hospital for more tests.
You'd think that they would have kept her there...:ymad: Our GP said that they would probably keep her there for a few days to monitor her.. he was worried that damage was being done to the heart.
