Switching Doctors While Hospitalized?

I've unfortunately been in the hospital for 4 days now. The reason? Well. I literally can't walk. I'm either constipated or having serious diarrhea / bloody / mucousy stools that are at times yellow or green. It's painful for me to urinate & attempt to do a BM. Horrible stabbing pain in my lower and upper right side of torso, the rest of the torso just terrible cramps that are equivalent to what it feels like to have a miscarriage. Also, since I've been here, my heart seems to be acting very strange (heart arithimia). So that's scary.

I want to get an official diagnosis before being discharged so this sickness can STOP and I can have a LIFE again. Only problem is that I have the most terrible SEXIST and discrimative GI doctor known to mankind (...and folks around here say he's the "best in the state" LOL). I got a colonoscopy performed and the doctor LIED TO ME ABOUT THE RESULTS?!?! He told me everything looked normal in my large intestine and wanted to immediately diagnose me with "severe IBS". Well, I got curious and asked my head nurse hereabout the results and apparently I have ulcers and tumors in there still. SO HOW IS THAT NORMAL?!?!?!!?!!!!!!

The idiot wanted to discharge me but luckily my boyfriend is amazing and threatened to take this "professional" to court for not being thorough with a patient that can't even f^(%1!5 walk. Well, he's doing another test on me and he explained it to me today in a very rude and demeaning fashion. He told me its one of the most uncomfortable tests to go through. They'll have to shove a tube down my nose and through my throat into my stomach and my small intestines and pump me full of fluid and run me through a CT scan. And guess what? I'll BE AWAKE DURING THIS. After he explained this nightmare to me he told me cruely that "they'll probably not find anything at all."

I don't want this jerk to test me while I'm here. How can I change doctors while I'm restrained to a hospital bed?!?!

I forgot to mention that my other symptoms are extreme joint pain & also weight loss (I've lost close to 20 lbs this month since this "flare up"). How in the heck could this just be "severe IBS"? This is making me feel like I'm insane :(

First of all you are most definitely not insane! This doctor sounds like he shouldn't be a doctor in the first place. I don't know what it's like in the US but in the UK you are perfectly within your rights to ask for a second opinion from another doctor. Ask the head nurse about your rights as a patient and she can probably point you in the right direction. It sounds like you're having a horrendous time of it and I hope you get the answers and right treatment you need soon.

Hey Kerry, thank you so much for the reassurance! Because yeah I've never had a doctor that dismissed the severity of my condition when sick, especially when hospitalized (and I've never been hospitalized this long--> before this I've just had one experience and I only spent the night there to get a blood transfusion due to bleeding out from my tonsillectomy). My own father even had the audacity to ask my boyfriend if I was "just faking all of this for attention"?!?!?!?! It's really hurting my feelings because as you know GI problems are f-ing painful!

Sorry for complaining, it's just been so stressful and strange :( but yeah I think I'm def going to speak to my head nurse about it. My boyfriend is a saint I swear--> he stayed the night here with me and is going to speak with the hospital administrator about how unprofessional my current doc is & to switch it to my previous one (my previous GI doc's incompetent receptionist told me he quit his job?!?! When apparently he just moved HERE, in the same department my current jerk of a doctor is).

Thank you for the support & reassurance, I really really need it <3

Don't worry about complaining, it's good to vent! Some people just don't understand a health problem they can't see but it's great you have such a supportive boyfriend. I completely understand what the struggle for a diagnosis is like. I'm currently undiagnosed myself and the doctors are reluctant to treat for crohn's without a definite diagnosis despite them suspecting it.
On another note have they checked your potassium and magnesium levels recently? If your potassium or magnesium levels are low that can cause arrythmias.

Actually yes they found out I have potassium & magnesium deficiencies due to all of the vomiting and diarrhea. They're giving me some in my IV right now. I'm just on the verge of taring my hair out. My night shift nurse just came in & told me that it's likely I have Crohn's but they're not going to diagnose me with it or give me the usual medications to treat the disease & that the remainder of my stay, they're just going to work on getting me "back into remission" so I can then follow up with my actual GOOD GI doctor and most likely get diagnosed with Crohn's.

The wait for diagnoses of Crohn's is beyond frustrating it's making me crazy. One of my fam members has Crohn's and was misdiagnosed with IBS for 5 years until they had to remove a foot of their small intestine.....

....I don't want to have to wait to lose an organ or a part of my intestine to get treated for my illness. This is a freaking nightmare.

Crohn's 2015, I totally understand what you are going through. I was diagnosed with IBS for 6 years before it was corrected to Crohns. I had surgery 4 months after diagnosis!

I would definitely change doctors while in the hospital! He sounds like he should never be practicing medicine.
