Hi all, sorry this is a bit of a strange first post, anywhere here goes...

My niece recently moved in to my house, turns out she has worms (threadworm) that recently came back. So I do some googling, as you do, and found out that if you're immonocompromised and get threadworm there is a risk of getting a fatal infection (where the worms infect your lungs etc from what I can tell). I've been on remicade/infliximab for 5 years so my immune stystem is pretty low! Was looking for re-assurance from other IBD'ers/immunosuppresed that have had worms that it will be okay?

Thanks!

Ooops turns out they are called 'pinworm' in the US but 'threadworm' here in the UK... threadworm in the US seems to be a different type. That's messed up my googling haha

I'm sorry I don't know anything about it but if you suspect you have it or develop symptoms don't hesitate to reach our to your doctor.

thanks for reply :) My infliximab infusion is due on friday so I will be talking to my IBD nurse/Dr before hand to make sure it's still okay.

The thing about these worms are they are super contagious so everyone in the house has to be treated as theres a 75% chance you'll get them if someone you're living with has them, so even with no symptoms still worried I may have them :(

Sounds scary. Good idea to let them know. How long till symptom manifest? Maybe they can delay the infusion a few days.

It can be weeks apparently. I rang the infusion centre and they said it should be fine :) And I'm seeing my GI next Tuesday anyway so I will bring it up with them too.
