vent/imuran question

so i'm bummed out need to vent.

i first learned i had crohn's in december 2008, well officially diagnosed by my GI in early Jan/09 ..

anyway, by late january, the prednisone kicked in and i felt normal again.

but when i tapered off, as some of you may have read my other thread http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=5413 i had pretty bad withdrawal... then when the withdrawal subsided, i had inflammation but not in my abdomen - i had eye inflammation and a bad case of EN on my legs.. after a couple weeks, that all faded away too, i figured because i am on Imuran...

but then last night, i had a flare up... pretty bad but not as bad as when i was hospitalized... but i couldn't keep my percocet and muscle relaxant down. just threw it up right away. now i have no painkillers left. and i'm home from work even though i feel better, i can sense how tender i am and i know i could flare up at any moment again...

i tried calling my GI, but their office is closed for a week...

i am in the process of getting a new referral to another GI... i hate my current GI.

end of vent...

anyway... how long did it take for Imuran to work for you? is it possible that Imuran will still work for me? my GI told me it'll take 6 weeks to work... i've been on it for over 6 weeks... but then i heard on this board that it takes 3 months to REALLY kick in.... i really don't wanna go back on Prednisone....i'm really disappointed that i had another flare up...but i guess it's my fault for thinking i could eat whatever i want...

going back on pred might be an option.

I know most meds take 3-4 weeks before they have any effect on us, so maybe the pred will be a stopgap

I was told up to three months for imuran to start working, and I think that was the case... may have taken even longer to really feel the benefits. Like everything with this disease (and with the treatment).. everyone is different.

I also heard 3 months for Imuran to kick in. I started it at the same time as Remicade and was coming off of prednisone as I started it, so I can't really say if it is working or not. Something is working - but it could be one or the other or both. The pred probably calmed my insides down enough for everything else to work well quickly.

I'm on 6-mp which is almost same drug. Told 3 months to kick in and my GI has me tapering pred to coincide with this. I.e., will be off pred entirely in 3 months.
