Just wandered if anyone having same problem with loosing weight they have gained from humira whilst still on it I have tried various diets like ww and sw but gain every time in inject the humira.

After 15 years of steroids, infliximab and Azio I started humira. Since being on it I have hit the heaviest weight I ever been and yet eat less than ever. I had a baby a year ago and lost the weight after but the the last 3 months on humira seem to have had a massive effect on my body I also have a couple of warts on my arm, swollen ankles, knees and tummy and of course the weight. I know it's helping my crohns and I'm so thankful for that but just find the weight gain frustrating anyone else the same and found a solution? Thank u :) xx

Since I've been on humira (started in August) I have absolutely no appetite and the weight is melting off like crazy. I'm down to 118. I had a flare this morning and still waiting for the dr to call me back. I don't think the humira is helping :( also I'm suffering from severe hip pain now. I believe it's a side effect. So so frustrated

: ( that's not good sounds like it is not working well as they say flares should be minimal I found dosage wise infliximab helped more but they couldn't get the iv in anymore so had to go to humira : (

I don't think it's helping because since I've been on it I still get left side abdominal pain (that's where the crohns colitis is) I'm always fatigued and just seem to never feel good. He changed my dose 3 weeks ago. I'm now taking it weekly. Last night I had some pain but nothing followed. This am same thing and I went 2 times and that's when I saw the blood. My belly is so bloated and I have that constant urge to have to go but I don't. So upsetting :(

Hello! I've been on humira for 6 months now and since staring treatment my weight has been the heaviest it's ever been, despite my clean eating and regular exercise. It's driving me crazy!!! So I have been talking to a Dr and she had a very interesting explanation for my weight gain...... Humira doesn't "stop" inflammation (tumour necrosis factor), it just blocks the receptors that the inflammation would normally "attach" to and start causing inflammation. The humira doesn't stop the body producing the inflammation, the inflammation is still circulating through the body with no where to "attach" to. And when there is excess TNF floating around the body, it's natural protective mechanism is to retain weight. I know this isn't a technical explanation but It's how I understand it. So now I'm seriously considering ceasing humira treatment as my self esteem is just plummeting.
Much love

Good to hear from you : ) that makes sense and have never thought of it like that!! There has to be something in it like you say too many people seem to struggle did the dr have any suggestions on what could do? , I tried ww and lost weight one week then the next week of injection put back on I find it so demotivating. The only good thing is my face finally back to normal after all the steroids before. I think I will have to struggle with the weight part for now don't have many other options drug wise : ( keep me posted on what you decide to do xxx

The Dr I saw looked into the drug's mechanism of action and she said it could be a definite possibility. The efficacy of the drug is starting to wear off for me anyway so I'm thinking of going off it for a few weeks and see if I notice a change in my puffiness. (I was due for my fortnightly injection today). I'll try to control my Crohn's by eating a strict diet and maybe consider a different medication

:)

Think it's really good your doctor willing to look as when I have mentioned it they just say but your crohns is controlled and you can fight the diesease better with weight. Def worth seeing I lost five pounds when I left it three weeks once due to having anti biotics. Good luck : ) xx
