This week is Thanksgiving Day in the USA.

:kiss:A time to gather with family and friends.
A time to reflect on blessings of the past year.
:eek:A time to eat to much and regret it afterwards.:rof:

What are you thankful for?

Please feel free to share favorite memories of past Thanksgivings, traditions you do and favorite delectable dishes.

I'm thankful for my boy not having EoE yet.
Grace holding study for this long.

Favorite memory
First Thanksgiving at my MIL's house. A lot of stress for her to like me. She cooked a turkey that was SO DRY that I had to take drink of water between every bite. I was afraid I was going to choke but I stayed smiling so she wouldn't be offended.

Food
Pumkin Pie, chicken stuffing (moist) and honey glazed carrots. YUMMY!

Well, our Thanksgiving has already gone by, but I'm so very thankful for all of you on this forum, for the prayers of family and friends for my son, for the MTX that seems to be keeping him in remission, my husband and boys, and God.

I'm also thankful for the American Thanksgiving, which I take as permission to turn on my Christmas music and hang the decorations. And Black Friday. Canadians like those good deals too! Thanks!

Happy Thanksgiving, my American friends!

I'm thankful for all the strides we've made forward with Jae's health, for a warm house, running water, and everything chocolate :). Oh and for this forum for sure!

Yes, thankful for many things- My health, which has been much worse than it is currently. Also my wife & family, & my job.

I met my boyfriend the day before Thanksgiving 4 years ago. I am incredibly thankful that he is in my life and finds ways to show me his love everyday.
I am thankful to have the things that I have and the courage and strength to fight another day.
Before I moved from home, Thanksgiving and Christmas were my favorite holidays because my entire family came together (all 30 of us) I miss those days.
Honestly, right now I am craving mashed potatoes the most. Thats always been a favorite Thanksgiving (or anytime) food of mine.
This year we are celebrating Thanksgiving in Florida, leaving on Tuesday. I hope everyone has safe travels and a great Thanksgiving!

What an excellent idea for a thread....I have been so depressed with all the things that come with this disease lately that I really haven't take the time to be thankful.

I am so thankful for my wonderful husband who somehow makes me feel attractive despite all the pleasant things that come with Crohn's disease. I am also thankful for my family and particularly my mom who takes my late night and early morning phone calls when I am crying because I can't take this disease one more moment (sadly at 28 I still need to call my mom for these things...). I am thankful that my health isn't worse than it is, because I know many people suffer more than I do. And lastly I am very thankful that I found this forum, it helps me tremendously.

I'm really happy that I saw this thread...thank you.
I have just been on the page where I hate to wish time away, but 2013 has been an awful year and I can't wait for it to be over. (Which I know makes no sense:ybatty:)
LJ is still not under control, and my DD tore her ACL AGAIN. (Tore it a year and a half ago playing basketball, started playing this year & tore it again) Surgeon says she has to quit playing...not the end of the world but still sad for a 16 year old.
I am so worked up all the time, just so worried everyday that something else is going to go wrong, or get worse.
Enough of my whining...this thread made me stop and really think about all of the really great things and people, including all of you, that I have to be thankful for!

I am thankful for a BEAUTIFUL gentle sheltie, that was just given to me as a surprise, 2 days ago, after one of the countries top breeders and show-ers read my story of chronic health problems, and contacted me! He is a retired show dog and is considered a therapy dog. Now when I get sick, I will not feel so scared and alone! I am also thankful for every day, the wonderful people in my life, and all of you on this forum!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am SO thankful for the strides my family has made this year and the support - online and local - that we were given to overcome our challenges.

Both my husband and daughter have had serious complications for different reasons. They've been hospitalized at the same time, many times and are both doing better.

Our 14 year old sons have been AMAZING, stepping up to the plate! My extended family and friends and this forum have given me so much support.

And both my husband and my daughter have incredible amount of strength and sense of humor that I will forever admire! Now I'm crying ;-)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Twas the night before Thanksgiving (fun poem)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

T’was the night of Thanksgiving,
But I just couldn’t sleep.
I tried counting backwards,
I tried counting sheep.

The leftovers beckoned,
The dark meat and white.
But I fought the temptation,
With all of my might.

Tossing and turning,
with anticipation.
The thought of a snack
Became infatuation.

So I raced to the kitchen,
Flung open the door,
And gazed at the fridge,
Full of goodies galore.

I gobbled up turkey,
And buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots,
Beans and tomatoes.

I felt myself swelling,
So plump and so round.
‘til all of a sudden,
I rose off the ground.

I crashed through the ceiling,
Floating into the sky,
With a mouthful of pudding,
And a handful of pie.

But I managed to yell
As I soared past the trees
Happy eating to all,
Pass the cranberries, please!!

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey be plump.
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.

May your yams be delicious,
May your pies take the prize
And May your Thanksgiving dinner...

Stay off of your thighs!

I'm not a parent, or in a country where we really celebrate thanksgiving, but I really like the sentiment of this, and would like to add a few of my own.

I am thankful for my parents, for them being there for me when everything seemed to be falling apart, for the little things like making me a soft rice pudding when my tummy hurts, and for the big things like allowing me a place to heal without pressure and stress.

I'm thankful for my siblings. And I'm extra thankful for my nephews and niece, they are just beautiful children, and they always make me smile, they give honest, unconditional love, and it's wonderful.

I'm thankful for everyone here, I'm thankful that none of us are alone with this disease, that we stand together and fight together, that when I'm having a bad day and I feel like no one gets it, I can come here and be surrounded by people who won't judge me or bring me down, and who know where I'm coming from with this thing.

I'm thankful that although the treatments are horrid, we do have treatments, and that one day, there will be a cure, and no one else will have to live like this. I'm thankful that this disease has shown me just what I can get through, and that it's lead me to such wonderful people.

Thankyou for making this thread, sometimes we all need to be reminded that we have reasons to smile :) .

I just took a bad fall down our stairs and I'm thankful I didn't break anything, thankful I didn't need to go to the hospital and thankful that I now won't be expected to do much tomorrow.

I'm thankful that I am getting my first smartphone on Friday! (A Moto X) And very thankful that my young son is here to show me how to use it!!!

I'm thankful for my boarders, who have become our friends.

I'm thankful for our sweet little dog.

And...I'm thankful any day that I don't have to shovel snow!

FW,
Thanks for starting this post!
I am having a down day due to my own illness but reading everyone's posts here has made me feel better. So here goes what am I thankful for?

I am thankful for this fabulous forum because I couldn't have made it through all this without you all!!!!

I am thankful for my wonderful family, my husband, children, and parents!

I am thankful that even though I was injured in the military I had a chance to make a difference to our wonderful country and contribute to our future!

I am thankful for having a roof over our heads and food on our table!

I have so much more to be thankful for this is just the tip of the iceberg!

Memories of Thanksgiving:
Firstly I want to say this is my favorite holiday. Why because it doesn't matter your religion, your race, or your ethnicity. If you are an American you celebrate Thanksgiving, the whole country celebrates together it is just an awesome feeling to wake up and know we are all celebrating together.

I remember going to Thanksgiving at my Grandparents house and growing up we would all pile into the small room with the television and watch a movie on TV until dinner was ready. We would all fight over the big chair and of course my big brother always won!

Enjoy your Thanksgivings everyone! I hope it is the best one ever!

Thankful for (in no particular order) breathing, sleep, family, surgeons, nurses, doctors, childlife, friends, Pubmed, CrohnsForum, Medscape, my gut, my bidet, underwear, ostomys, Jolly Janet Puppet, second opinions, antibiotics, rubber gloves and YOU. Pretty much all of it, everything I am glad to be alive.

I just want to wish all my American friends a Very Happy Thanksgiving!!! :D Hope all have a wonderful day! :ghug:

I'm thankful for my wonderful family and that we all live close enough to spend the day together and my parents and in-laws have become such great friends that we only have to go to one house for Thanksgiving.
I'm thankful that Jack is feeling well enough and off EEN in order to be able to enjoy the feast.
I'm thankful for all the wonderful people on this forum who provide support, understanding and answers.
I'm thankful my new stove arrived today so that I was able to cook my Thanksgiving pies for tomorrow :)
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
