I'm having a bit of a dilemma & wondered if anyone could offer advice please?

I had a resection at 17 (i'm now 31) - following this I was fine for 11 years, ate what i wanted, no problems, no pain & no meds. In year 10 of that 11 years i started a 'healthy' eating plan (diet!) & lost 4.5 stone through diet & exercise. At year 11 I collapsed at work, woke up surrounded by blood & a long saga of hospitals & tests later they concluded it was probably something to do with my crohns. I think i caused this problem by eating what normal people deem healthy foods i.e. nuts, whole wheats, veg, fruit etc

I've been on Pentasa for 2 years now & have lived on white bread & soft stuff - but i now think the white bread could be causing a problem so i want to find alternative things to eat. I was wondering what other people in the UK tend to eat on a normal day?

Today I plan to eat rice crispies & soya milk for breakfast, i have cous cous avacado beetroot olives chicken feta & salad cream for lunch & will either have soup or fish for dinner with maybe a yoghurt thrown in. I know i'm very limited & try to stick to low residue - but perhaps there are foods im avoiding unecessarily? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

If you are feeling good you could try putting some 'normal food' back into your diet. I can eat well.cooked vegetables, including potatoes, and most fruits, so long as they aren't too 'crunchy' (like apples). It is a good idea to still avoid seeds, nuts and skins as these can 'scratch' your insides, especially where the resection join is, and cause problems, but you probably don't need to stick to full low residue and can put some soluble fibre (things like oats) back in.

I agree, low residue is for the short term only, not a good idea to stay on it.
I only go low res when I have diarrhea. Other than that I eat anything that's not nailed down!
Keep a food journal, and slowly re introduce some foods, wholemeal bread now and then for example, to see if you can tolerate it.
Google soluble and non soluble fibre, oats is both.

Thank you for your advice all....I don't ever remember a day when I didn't have diahorrea so have to be so careful. I went a long time eating whatever I wanted & sadly now I can't do that (

I have just asked this question on a different post, but are you on meds for the D? There is some really good stuff about. Regarding food, I fiddled about for ages trying to do the helthy diet. What I have concluded is that (although everyone is different) the only thing to cut down on is fatty/dairy foods, and cook veg and fruit to death. It makes sense that foods which will speed up your digestion are to be avoided. Oh and oats and bananas are great. Pity I hate them :)
The food diary is a must
Hope all goes well
