how and what a colonoscopy is and how its done in the UK
in the UK this is done differently to most other places as you are NOT asleep for the process.

It is my understanding that they use conscious sedation but this could have changed.
The system there is so underfunded. The postal code lottery also pertains over there.
Sigmoidoscopy is never sedated., and that seems to be the way in Ontario also.
Perhaps others will write of their experience.

we are talking the NHS .. so choice does not come into it lol

the process they use is called twilight sedation - a combination of a sedative and a pain killer are used so your on the very edge of going to sleep but still with it enough to move about if requested ..

got this happening in a few weeks time :( also a mri at the end of the month.

This makes me squirm in my pants. I have enough anxiety going into a normal US colonoscopy, and couldn't imagine being anymore aware of things. I have heard horror stories from my grandmother who was diagnosed in the 50s and 60s, when colonoscopy was a new field, and only topical analgesics were used. It makes my bum hurt just thinking about it :shifty-t:
