What is YOUR weather like today??

Crohn's Disease Forum

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

Had a lovely bike ride in the sunshine and there was a nice breeze which made all the difference to my rat's tails of yesterday. Also I can cycle faster than I can walk which helps.Ron,do you still use your walker ? I'm sorely tempted but once I get one There'll be np going back

Yes Carol I take it with me everywhere. More as a precaution than a necessity . I just don't need any more falls. I have enough people on my case now suggesting I go into a home without giving them any more ammunition. Also the walker allows me to sit down and have a rest if I am in too much pain. Ron.

I moved two more loads of wood, and I am out of shape from a summer of inactivity. I notice improvement after moving wood over the past week. I fear that if I move into an appartment I will quickly run down and will develop mobility issues and existing medical problems will get worse. One just has to keep going.

I understand what you're both saying.Les feels much better when he's busy or out and about, although he has nowhere near the chores that you have Buff. He's 75 and I'm 73,although I have to say, crohns apart,I'm pretty fit and we are often told how well we both look.......16c and cloudy today.

We have been warned we are in for an early spring with severe asthma and hayfever conditions. I have already been suffering asthma and hayfever. I am using my ventolin puffer every day and take anti histamines and nasal spray twice a day. I have been putting my medical face masks to a new use. I smear them with vicks vaporub and it helps keep my sinuses open . At night I sprinkle a little eucybear vapouriser liquid on a piece of tissue and put it in my cpap. If my sinuses shut down while I am asleep (my cpap only has a nasal mask) I just don't get enough air. I am not looking forward to summer and the likelihood of adding smoke to the mix. The covid situation is getting worse in Australia. Queens land is ok so far but our adjoining state ,NSW, is now recording ver 1000 cases a day. Ron.

Asthma is an awful thing.I had a short burst of it about 30yrs ago and luckily it went as fast as it arrived with a ventolin spray.I found it very hard not to panic.I hope your DIY meds work well for you.Covid hopital admits. and deaths are rising.Boosters are being mention for the old and decrepit but we shall have to wait to see if we're invited.I've booked our flu jabs so will mention it then (Oct.)Dull and cool 14c here on the North East coast but sunny and in the 20s elsewhere....am I bothered ???

I had asthma from the time I was a youth until I had the colostomy surgery in my 40's and had to always have the ventolin with me at all time. After the surgery the asthma vanished. I did little yesterday, and then last night I had the best sleep I can remember in months. It was only 7C this morning.
You can't beat a good nights kip.It does a power of good
14c and grey.Having a stay at home day.......all day

Spider bite on the eye, Buff? What on earth have you been up to? Were you sleeping with it, or what. I certainly wouldn't fancy that.

Went to Cotswold Wildlife park on Tuesday. Omg, was heaving. Probably half of them would have been off to bloody Benidorm or some other resort far off. The crowd was as maddening as it was yesterday when i went to Portsmouth and Southsea. Blimey. Let's hope people get away next year. Mind, it is helping the economy. Yesterday was lovely and hot and sunny too. Today it's not at all sunny and quite cool. I've noticed the leaves are falling now. No more summer until next year. Omg, these covid years are killing me. Our numbers are very much up and i think will keep rising. It's sad that 100 died yesterday. it was down to 1 per day recently.

20c and sunny with a nice cooling breeze off the sea...went down to the quay.Lots of people wandering around but it wasn't nearly as busy as I thought it would be.I had to smile when you moaned about the crowds Di.,
I know I'm top of the class with my moans about crowds but really we can't moan about them or the traffic when we're a part of them. We had the best of it in the 60s-80s,now it's the turn of the younger generation.Trouble is there's a lot more of them than there was.

You're absolutely right, Carol. Must admit, i find it hard to think like the young of today. Not sure they know 'respect and be respected'. Don't like the wokefakes that want to air their young egos. But we have had our time to shout about this and that, and move our world forwards progressing with this and that. yes, it's their turn, bless them!
Today i'm feeling the effects of my days out on Wed and Thurs. I'm having an extremely quiet day indoors. There is finally a bit of sun coming through but i must say half of my bungalow is very cold. Racing towards September now. Can't believe another year is almost in it's final quarter. Shall we look forward to Xmas festivities?

I had to go in for more maintenance at the Ostomy clinic, and then afterwards braved the Friday afternoon traffic congestion and the heaving crowds at the grocery store. There is no courtesy in traffic, the self righteous pedestrians, and all those younger folks obsessed with their phones oblivious to anyone around them. Its a different world compared to the one I lived through when I was younger. The world plays to a different beat now, and at this point I can watch it all from the sidelines away from the rush. With the wet cool fall like conditions I lit the fire once I got home and enjoyed the quiet evening.

I understand you Buff. I'm willing to let younger life roll past me whilst keeping sane at home. The smart phones just make life more hectic. I don't like people contacting 24/7. I like some of my life away from technology. The amount of talkers as you go around the supermarket is ridiculous. We only get one side of a conversation but loads are at it.

I did see the strictly crohns sufferer, bless. Don't think i could muster the energy to dance these days. Wouldn't fancy being young again and trying to live life with crohns. It's easier when we don't need to be so active.

We are warming up. They have forecast a thunderstorm for this afternoon so it appears we may have transitioned once again from winter directly to summer. We are seeing increased cases of covid cases and deaths in NSW and Vic. We are still covid free in Qld. I often share a table with a friend I made at the local cafe. He is quite remarkable. He has all of his faculties , drives a car and gets around without a stick or a walker. I am 71 he is 96. He is aware of my problems and his parting comment when we finish our meal is " you better hurry off to the loo before you have an accident" . Unfortunately he is correct, cheeky old bugger ! Ron.

14c and slightly damp.Walked up to the town square as a music thingy was advertised. It was OK but not great. Not crowded though.I think it was an attempt to catch up with what we have missed during covid. The festivals and country fairs and air shows etc.help to make the years pass but with nothing going on for 18mths + we don't seem to know where we are supposed to be.But the xmas crap will be all around us soon.......too soon

13C passing showers. DI you are right about life, I would not want to go through what I went through when I was younger living, working and coping with Chrons. I wonder how I managed it, its tough enough now having to leave the house once a week to wade through the crowds, come home and put the groceries away. Just being senior has enough challenges.

Oh, dear. Got up this morning and noticed a chill in the place. Fingers went numb immediately and the washing is failing to dry. Ron, i think we are missing out autumn. I have raked out my thermals and woolen aran jumpers again. Seems like no time since i washed them all and put them away. It is definitely cold and dreary out there. Roll on and Indian Summer.

We had our first thunderstorm the night before last. We usually get our first storm in late October ,early November. It is cloudy today with a temp range from 13-27c. I'm off to the podiatrist today to get my feet checked. Ron.

Not so here, Carol. I'm back in thermals and winter woollies. Bloody freezing. I also have a throw over me, Les isn't the only one lol. I do understand. I don't posses a summer duvet. It's always 13.5 tog. I have got my heavy spanish woollen blanket on the bed too. Time to put the leccy blanket on again this week i think. It definitely is cold. Hate to think what my heating bill will be this year. Everything is going to cost more now. Your fuel isn't the only fuel going up, Buff.

We pay £1.35 per litre here in the UK, Chris. We thinks it's stonking. yes, our leaves are falling now. I noticed them falling down and blowing in the wind when i visited the hospital on Tuesday. Even my wisteria has got yellow leaves on now. Sad, but another nothing year has gone by. God, we've got the winter to look forwards to and nothing much else. Ron, i hope you have a mild summer this year. Otherwise, we are all going to be whinging like nothing else under the sun.

It's cold, windy and with very low white skies. Boring weather.

Fuel $1.21 on the First Nations reserve, but much higher at $1.46 outside of the reserves. Felt like death last night, the chills came on and I rolled up trying to keep warm like a ball, laying too long on my side causing major pains in the site of my stricture. I was so cold getting up to urinate I felt like I was going to pass out from the cold while working my way back into bed shaking badly, even the coldest nights of winter are not like this. I got into a better position trying to sleep in the recliner which allowed the painful gas to pass. These are the nights I dread and fear, I hope it was a one off. Going to catch up on some rest later.

It's always harder in the middle of the night, especially when you're alone.I hope you're feeling better.Have a lazy day with "cat" on your lap.
14c here and cloudy.I did put the winter (9tog) duvet on yesterday then the forecast says there'll be a rise in temps next week so I might have to back track.I must say it's a lot cosier than the 4tog of summer but I had to stick my leg and arm out to balance things.

That's one way of looking at it, Carol, lol.

Buff, sincerely hope you're ok. I've not really heard you speaking of how cold it is and shivering. However, it shouldn't be that cold over there, should it? Perhaps were all missing our springs and autumns this year. It is actually slightly warmer today and i've been working in the garden.

According to your averages Carol I am very , very cheap to run. I just received my power bill as well and my average daily cost for power is AU $1.77.
The average energy consumption for a one person home in my area is 846kwh. Mine is 665 kwh. I am very aware of good power use habits . If I am not using an item I turn it off and l never leave it on standby. It is overcast with light showers today with temps around 23c. Ron.

The weather here was warm, however muggy. We started out at 8c with a high of 22c. I took a ride today, what a bunch of meathead drivers we had around here... Some jerk in a big truck filtered into my lane while at a busy intersection, started going ahead of me and then proceeded honk and to yell at me to learn how to drive among other profanity. Sorry bud, sharing lanes is illegal here... You must be staggered. There's no lane but the one I'm in and you are to be behind me. I have all the rights of a bicycle or a car! Dummies, I say... Dummies! I gave him the message and he almost lost his driver side mirror to my gloved hand... I thought better of it, and just rev bombed him and power wheelied off.... I was pretty chapped! Tomorrow is another day. ;^)

Overcast today. Back to being chillier in the mornings although, as i understand it, we are going to benefit from the tail end of Hurricane Ida bringing warmer weather. Ty US. I shall enjoy what i can of that.

Chris, there are loads of loonies on our roads. We have too many people with too many vehicles on this tiny island. It's ridiculous. Some people show bikers no consideration whatsoever. Ron, it's nice you have some boring weather that sounds more like our boring weather. Enjoy it while you can.

Much the same as it's been all week..14c and cloudy....Chris,we are seriously considering getting rid of the car.We use it less and less and Les is very aware of the idiot drivers on the road. He's been driving almost 58yrs and never had a ticket but I know he feels apprehensive a lot of the time.
Ron,our power bills are pretty low as like you,if it's not in use,we switch off at the mains. And we've never ever watched t.v with a light on.I even have a little flash light which I use to see the numbers on the remote to change channels.I'm laughing to myself now.I feel such a twit telling you all this but I expect we all have our idiosycrasies.

14C showers. A better night last night, but still soar in the area. All I did was rest yesterday, and today I can eat once again. It was not all that cold the night I shivered, it was my body that was out of whack. I wish I had my old cat which I could use as a heater as he would sleep under the covers and push his warm body up onto mine for hours on end. I cannot do that with the cat I have now, as the first thing she will do under the covers is play with the colostomy bag and put a hole into it.
My power bill is low, I use less than 500 Kwhr per month, and the airconditioner has a very short season here. Pretty soon its time to pull it from the window.
Chris you are not alone, we have more than our share of idiots on the road. All I do is ignore them and keep my eyes on the road and my hands upon the wheel as in the song by the Doors.

12C unsettled with passing showers. It feels like autumn is setting in. I moved another two loads of wood yesterday. I found my good sunglasses in the pile that I was looking for months ago. I must have set them down on a piece of round wood and then it got burried in the pile as I cut and split. The mystery is solved and no harm done to the lens.

Haven't enjoyed today as i would have hoped. Went on a Peak District mini tour today. Very, very hot. Driver got lost in 'Sheffield'! Omg, 3 hours of driving about in this heat lol. Oh well, bit of a wasted day. I would rather have stayed home with the cat. I think we are due thunderstorms later. Hope the weather cools for you Carol.

I have had one of those weeks that comes under the heading of'' Do me a favour, don't do me any favours" My landlord finally decided to replace my non functional hot water system( after three years ). The plumber installed it and said it probably would not start to warm till off peak power kicked in. I waited till 10pm but still no hot water. I went and checked the fuse and it was blown. I had to wait till the next morning to go and buy some fuse wire. I replaced the 8 amp fuse. I checked it ten minutes later and the ceramic fuse block was so hot I could barely touch it. I called the plumber and he told me to turn it off and he would call his electrician. That afternoon the electrician arrived . He said that the hot water system had the wrong element. It was 3.6 k/w and should have been 1.5 k/w. He changed the element and said it would be fine. I tried the hot water tap later that evening. Nothing . He had turned the water off whilst changing the element and had not turned turned it back on. Luckily I had asked the plumber about the controls on the new system and was able to find the tap. Why is everything so difficult? No rain tops of 25 c and 11 c overnight. Half of Qld is under an extreme fire danger warning. Ron.

I did have one whole day recently where i had to laugh as everything that could go wrong, or not happen as it should, went wrong. But that sounds like unqualifieds at your electrics and plumbing. Oh, the young of today, lol. I feel for you Ron.

I slept fairly well after yesterday. Today is hot and sunny as expected. It's not our area going to get the storms. I feel for you Carol. Stay off the bikes today.

It's 28c and I could weep, but can't afford to lose anymore moisture.Went into town for Les's scripts and although I had a short shopping list I just couldn't face going into the shops. It will wait until the big shop tomorrow. The inside of my mask was saturated. The only good thing about this heat is I washed all of Les's winter coats etc and they dried a treat.

9C wet and paltry. I was stuck in the house all day yesterday giving me a chance to do some needed housework. It had me thinking how limited life would be if I was living in an apartment. Despite the challenges, I'll stick to living in the house for as long as I can. Ron, the younger generations today, many don't take the responsibility or care into doing the work that is required of them. For work like that, the worker should have been fired, for it could have caused a fire or worse, electricity and water don't mix.

We are now back to dull and grey out there and slightly damp in the air. About right for Britain at this time of year. Yet i'm still hopeful of good weather, perhaps and Indian Summer. Sorry about that Carol. Still a tad humid out there too, so no cycling yet. You'll pour with sweat, Carol.

I've done my shopping and i can say i also bought a new xmas decoration for my tree. Yes, i had a gander down the Xmas isle in one store. Ooops! There isn't much Halloween or Fireworks yet, but that isn't until the end of October and beginning of November. They've got the back to school stuff out the way now and it's Xmas displays lol. Mind, we are almost one third through September. Where this year has gone i've no idea whatsoever.

High of 29c and a low of 16c for Sunday with hot NW winds and a high fire danger. Another shark attack in northern NSW mid week . A 29 yr old surfer had his arm bitten off by a great white. His friends tried hard but there was nothing they could do for him. Very sad Ron.

Did the poor lad die Ron ? Nothing in our news so far.But how lucky was that toddler after 3 days alone in the bush ?
21 with short light showers.Temps to drop over the weekend, but not too drastically so you can acclimatize Di.....this year has flown by and no mistake.Buff,I understand your intention to hang on in there.Different if you were a townie. There's no way I'm going into an old age place.....I haven't got that sort of mentality.I definately won't go down without a fight

Cold, wet, miserable and not very nice at all. Garden is getting sorted for autumn now. Just awaiting all the leaves to drop now. That'll take some clearing up. I noticed the leaves when out driving, they are tumbling down in the wind. Quite curled and brown now. Lots more to follow though. I hope it's not a wet slippery autumn that is cold and windy too. Might get a wet suit to wear under clothes.

21c with a nice breeze making it bearable.Walked down to the village
which was rammed.People sitting outside pubs and cafes stuffing their faces. There must be at least 25 food / drink outlets and one overpriced gift shop and a small food market There's only one street less than a quarter of a mile long. How things have changed......

12C overnight showers, breezy and clearing up. Slowly getting things ready for winter. I did some touch up painting on the truck where the paint peels by the wheel wells before it goes in for its annual rustproofing treatment next month. This afternoon it will be back on moving wood.

Quite muggy here too Carol. Threatening rain all day, but none yet. Got a bit done in the garden these past few days. I'm really pleased with what i've managed. Just hope the weeds don't start growing again. It does look better. Never stays that way though. God created weeds and brambles. I can't even eat the blackberries, bloody crohns. Mind, i hope to pull some potatoes soon. Pick some apples i can't eat either lol. Ho hum, that's life. And my pond needs cleaning again.

Crohns forum is the only real place on earth that identifies with my inability to be a human, or even species, to exist with huge restrictions on food and beverages. I do like to identify with nature though, Buff. I can live on water, bland meat, bland fish. I do have a peg tube and liquid feed. I swear it's that that causes the diarrhoea. Wow. if i could eat freely. Just like the rest of the biological species. I wish i could. There again, i'm here because we just can't. We suffer if we eat, Buff. Why??? It's crohns and they'll get a cure once we're dead, rofl. I wish they worked harder for our disease.

Went and had bloods done this morning. Hot 15c overnight and 30c today. Tomorrow is 9c to 26 c. I commiserate Di, With high cholesterol, high urates ,high blood sugars and not allowed to at anything containing vit K because of warfarin. There is very little that I am supposed to eat. Dammed if i do ,dammed if i dont. Ron.

The restrictions of food unfortunately extends into life itself, there are so many things I would like to do, but cannot do or am restricted from doing. My weakened condition and the fear of night time pains have kept me away from my cabin, a place I used to live for. Many activities are restricted. Chrons stole my income and reduced my retirement pension due to sick time when I was unable to work. Chrons is a thief of life and living. Having said that I got some needed help yesterday and the wood pile grew a lot. 10C mainly sunny.

I must say, Buff, i've not heard you speaking of your cabin like you have in previous years. I wondered if all was ok. Yes, it's very restricting having these issues with crohns. I hate being restricted. Most of all i miss sport, but not so much as i get older.

Full on rain today. the plants need it, especially the weeds that are about the only thing keeping me active at the moment. Nipped to the supermarket, not too bad whilst there, also went to our wonderful primarque, to give it the French haute couture feel. Got a lovely dressing gown and some lovely warm pj's. Pleased with my cheapy buys. Doesn't take much to keep me happy i can say. Just a few quid lol

14c with a few spots of rain.Went to the garden centre for some spring bulbs but it seems such a long time until spring eh? But if you are any thing like me,time will pass in a flash. It does that when one day's much like the next.Keep off the booze though. It doesn't solve anything.........but neither does water and lettuce.

18c and sunny again.....Hope you feel better today Di. not much to do when you're down in the dumps except to tell yourself that "it too shall pass".And it will.Shopping's getting to be worrisome, what with us being 100.000 delivery drivers short.I would go into the politics of it all,but I can't be bothered today.

12C More rain. Good weather yesterday, but got nothing done, I was still exhausted from the long day before. Today I can try again. I heard the sirens from the vollunteer firefighters go by earlier this morning, something rarely heard around here. The news will come through the grapevine later. First thing that comes to mind is someone having a heart attack as many living around here are older.

22c and sunny....sooo boring.Got loads of little jobs done today so I can chill (I wish) over the weekend.
I see they've wrapped General Sherman in heat retardent material, hopefully to save it from the fire..Les is at the hospital to see the cancer consultant
hopefully for the last time.He still has side effects due to the chemo + radiotherapy, but it's a small price to pay.Have a good weekend friends.
CHRIS where are you....we need a note !!!

12C We had quite the light show last night when the storms rolled through. Yesterday, I sharpened the chainsaw (after dulling it minutes after sharpening it the other day) and it was eager to go. However I was not as I had a hard time splitting the twisted knotty wood. I'll try again today. The upcoming winter forecast is calling for a wide winter with lots of snow and cold spells, together with rising fuel costs is good incentive for me to keep working the wood pile. Chris, I hope all is well with you and your family.

11c here. Thanks, Ron. Thanks to you all. I think I may have had Delta. I'm doing okay and didn't need the hospitatl, however I did have trouble breathing for several days. I've had some kind of bug that has kept me in bed for the better part of a week. Given the circumstances of my tourist oriented town... I probably caught it being near so many Albertans who were unvaccinated and without masks all summer. I wore mine...

°100F at 11:48am 🏜

I am getting my 3rd Covid vaccine this Saturday. What is the difference between a 3rd dose and a "booster" dose ?
It's just the same as the last one, (I got Pfizer, so it may be different for other vaccines) except it boosts the immune system further from what I've researched. Apparently the version for the delta variant is about as effective as what we have now. Thus the third dose of the same thing.

Im very glad you had some help, Buff. As far as I'm concerned, there is no shame in accepting it. Peace!

Turned out sunny in the end. Unfortunately, i'm not so sunny today. Feeling the effects of autumn and my trip to the supermarket yesterday. I'm just gloom and doom today. Absolutely nothing eventful happening at the moment. SAD, no pun intended.
Big gentle hugs, Diane. You can chat with me any time.

It's rainy, with a current temperature of 10c here and dropping like a hammer. Feeling a bit better today... Thanks to all you good people, I genuinely appreciate the concern. My father is under the weather now, so I'm not too sure if he's just complaining (tends to do that) or if he caught what I had. Mother has a suspicious cough too but no fever for either as far as I can tell. I'll try to keep in touch. Peace!

Great to hear you're ok, Chris. that delta is a bit of a sod. Don't think they're mentioning newer variants. Haven't heard of any lately. Stay safe. I didn't know you're in a touristy spot though. I got an impression you might be rural.

Well, i nipped to the shops today and there's lots of xmassy things and our shops and govt are telling us to buy fast as shelves and deliveries are empty and no deliveries. It's not just our country though. Don't quite get it as to how all this is happening. I know we are out of eastern european delivery drivers, but the energy companies are a bit ridiculous. Just how much can we pay in increases? Pulled some potatoes out the ground this weekend, most are marble sized! ooops can't even grow my own.

I'm afraid you've all been heading for my spam bin so i've missed out this weekend. It's lovely and sunny again today and really quite warm out. We often get good weather when the kids go back to school, which is really nice as it's quieter and easier to enjoy being places without squealing kids or just the extras at the shops.

I'm definitely in a rural area, Diane. We go from our local four thousand people to over forty thousand people during peak tourist season. Everyone want's to come see and experience the Rocky Mountains that I get to look out my windows to each day. We're located 2-1/2 hrs from Calgary Alberta, where there's a lot of oil wealthy folks... as a result there are a lot of second home owners who come for the summer. Everyone seems to be doing okay here and the weather has been sunny with a high of 15c. Peace!

Lovely and sunny again today. I've pottered about the garden again today as it's nice to have the heat about my body. I've already started the pruning so not so many leaves fall, lol. It's probably our last of warm weather. Think we might be into a cold winter without having the heat at the usual setting. Looks like many of our gas suppliers are going out of business. Bizarre.

Chris, i didn't know you were by the Rockies! Wonderful. I've seen some videos on the Rocky Mountains. One place i would have loved to have visited. Mind, it's a great long mountain range. Not sure which part your from apart from the Canadian part. Banff always looks lovely. I think BC is a lovely looking part of Canada.

The Canary Islands La Palma has a lovely new volcanic eruption on the go. Hasn't shown itself for 50 years and is now ruining peoples holidays. Unfortunately, it's also ruined some people's homes.

That is about the only thing we don't have to worry about in Australia, volcanoes. Any that we have are eroded plugs and have been extinct for millions of years. Not that we need volcanoes , our PM seems to be very good at upsetting our neighbors and allies. Ron.

Our weather has been fine today with plenty of sun and a high of 22c. I was going to go out for a ride today.... but I got stung on my throat by an angry wasp. I ended up having to take antihistamines and self monitor for fear of my airway closing... Oh well, maybe it was a sign to stay on the couch. C'est la vie!

Welcome, Carabop

P.S. -Banff is an hour and a half away on the Alberta side of the mountain range.

Welcome Carabop from east coast Australia. Well as usual I make a statement about not having to worry about seismic events in Australia and Melbourne was hit by a 5.8 magnitude earthquake this morning. It was felt from Tasmania in the south right through Victoria ,NSW and southern Qld and west into South Australia. It happened at 9.00am and three aftershocks have been recorded since. The epicenter was 10 kilometers below Mansfield in Melbourne and there was building damage but no casualties. Ron.

It's on the news Ron, i'm a bit surprised about that one. I wonder how many saw that coming along? We expect a lot of wild weather down there but don't hear too much about earthquakes. they're usually over in NZ. Hope all is ok and all survived.

Lovely and sunny again today. This is the sort of sun i live for. It's a nice phase of warmth before the autumn, which of course it is today. Happy Fall/Autumn everyone. Light light up at 7.30pm at the moment and only going to get darker. Apart from Ron that is.
