anyone ever had to take multiple rounds of antibiotics

I was just wondering if anyone ever had to take many courses of antibiotics right after the other and how did your stomach tolerate it. So far for a tooth infection i first took 16 amoxicillan and had bad stomach cramps, i've never had an issue with this pill before, next 3 erythomycin, then gp said too hard on stomach so switched to azithromycin, which i took 2 courses and that one the pharmacy says it will stay in system 10 extra days, that is alot of antibiotics i've ever taken at once. I'm just scared to get c-diff or maybe it will make my ibd worse, because right now its mild. My stomach stays okay and thats if i follow the brat diet, but if i try to add other foods, i either get some d or stomachaches. To make matters worse i may have to take some more antibiotics for possible bladder infection and also if my tooth is still infected, its still not healed, and its been 1 month since i got it pulled. This tooth extraction has caused me the worst grief regarding antibiotics and possibly i got a uti from them. I do take 4 probiotics daily, and yogurt if my stomach in not sore.

I know probiotics and yogurt help replace some of the good stuff that the antibiotics kill off. Not sure to what extent, though. My stomach usually only got upset by antibiotics around the time I took them, but that varies for different people. That's a lot of different antibiotics going through your system. I'd make sure your doctor(s) are aware of what you've been on and ask them. Tough to answer.

Matt was on antibiotics for his CD and an abscess. Flagyl for 6 months straight and during that time also Augmentin Duo Forte for 2 months. He didn't appear to have any obvious side effects though such as diarrhoea or stomach upset.

I did go see a dr. on call yesterday for my possible uti. I told the nurse everything and the dr. didn't prescibe any antibiotics until he said they do a culture and make sure the right antibiotic. They were supposed to phone today and didn't so crossingmy fingers that i don't have a uti, but yesterday the nurse did a urine dip and said some blood and nitrates in urine. I have been always having blood in my urine for past year so i will be seeing a urologist next month. The nurse said no fever and did blood work and she she said no infection but that doesn't mean i don't have a uti. I am phoning tomorrow to check on it. Matt was on alot of antibiotics and no d, i'm learning here everyone is so different. What's okay for one person is not good for another. I am glad he had no issues with it. There is one thing that puzzles me and i've always wanted to ask. Alot of people say they get flares from flagyl, i always though it was for d since it helped me with my c-diff colitis. Is the c-diff colitis and ibd colitis different.

Well Flagyl is certainly used for gut infections in the general population and for those that have IBD and are flaring it is normally used to kill off any infection that often accompanies inflammation plus it has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory properties.

Counting back Matt was on Flagyl for 7 months. The first 4 months were to assist in keeping his flare under control, then the last 3 months were post surgery. The Crohns specialist he saw pre op prescribed it because he said that research indicated that 3 months of post op Flagyl greatly increased the chances maintaining a longer remission.
