I have crohns for a year and half, im 21, and want to start doing someting, and im going to a course of duration of 2 years starting next week. I had a blood test the day the course start (day21) and appointment with doctor day 23. I phone to the hospital saying to reschedule the appointment and exams to december when christmas holidays starts. I feel good with the medication im taking (azafalk and salofalk) i think thats what matters, im affraid doctor will be mad next time i go there. I feel like having a good mental wealth helps with everything. What are your experiences with reschedules and stuff?

I am not sure but Christmas might be a busy time for the doctor. How is the Crohns doing right now?

I think your appointments and medical tests should be your first priority. Crohn's can get worse rather quickly. Even if you are feeling good, the disease could be doing damage silently.

In my experience and 3 other people i know who are ill with various other things. If you cancel more than once they stop your refferal and you have to go through the whole lot again to see a specialist. And cancelling just because its easier for me wouldnt be tolerated with my area. Your body can stop working with medication at any point for no reason, so you need your specialist. Being on good terms helps alot. Not to mention xmas is horrendously busy for hospitals, pharmacys etc so i cant imagine thats a good time for you to book when you could do earlier. Put your health as a priority so it hopefully doesnt get worse.

Its great that your feeling good right now, but your blood work and stool tests are very important indicators on your health.
Its important to stick to your appointments.
Even though I was in remission regarding my crohns. my blood work showed that I had inflammation going on somewhere else, turned out crohns had damaged my fallopian tubes and they had to be removed.
Stick to your appointments in future. Its your new normal and its important that you accept that.
Wish you every success [emoji4]

Hello. I'm really glad you're feeling good at the moment but as the others have said I would recommend being careful. Your doctor schedules tests and check ups at specific intervals for a reason and messing about with the timing can have a much bigger effect than you realise. Even if your crohns is stable you need monitoring to make sure that the medication isn't doing any harm to your liver or kidneys and that you are not becoming deficient in any vitamins amor minerals. I know it is difficult being sick when you're young and getting in the habit of working around it but you really need to. Your college should be understanding of the need for medical appointments and I'm sure they would rather you take the odd day here and there for a visit than end up needing weeks at a time off because things have gone down hill.

Here in the UK rescheduling appointments without a good reason is frowned upon and they can remove patients from waiting lists if they do it on a regular basis. I don't want to sound harsh but think of it this way, you will have crohns for life, at some point or another you will have no choice but to go to an appointment when you have study or work, it will be impossible to reschedule things around your career forever and if you aren't taking proper care of it all you will end up in a much worse position. Putting things back by a week or two while you go away or have a family emergency is one thing, but setting appointments back by 2-3 months at a time can really upset things.

As for your gi being annoyed, they will be professional and if you explain the circumstances will probably try and accommodate your needs but they may have a bit of a talk to you about the importance of keeping on top of things and prioritising your health.
