I am wondering if anyone has had problems with fruits and veggies with tiny seeds ie: blueberries, raspberries, kiwi etc?

I'd love to be able to eat these but have avoided them for fear they would scratch any existing inflamed tissue.

My doctor has specifically told me never to eat things with tiny seeds (esp. no berries), and I haven't for years now. I miss them terribly.

My son's dietitien told us the same thing - no berries, seeds. Although she did say that blueberries in small/moderate amounts 'should' be okay. Her explanation, though, wasn't so much the scratching issue (although I agree that could be a problem), but more that seeds don't break down and if there is any thickening, could add to an obstruction.

I am very careful to eliminate as many seeds as possible from his diet, however, he does eat pizza (which does contain tomato seeds) - his favourite food, haven't had the heart to complete eliminate it. :( But, so far, no issues...

o my i was never told this i eat bread with seseam seeds in all the time and fruit with berriers, is it a good idea for me to avoid this from now on lol? i dont have any problems, well i dont think so any way xx

My GI would only tell me to avoid them during times that the narrowing of the ileum was very bad due to scar tissue and inflammation from the flare.

I think the wonly way is to try a little and find out. I found kiwi didnt agree with me, but any other fruit has been fine in moderation

I would avoid sesame and poppie as they might scrape inflamed tissue.

I was told not to eat them when I was first diagnosed. I am not to have a huge amount or cooked or raw veggies. I hate it, I love salad and it is sooo hard to not eat it. I am fine with any fruit or berries.

I had a terrible bowel infection from eating cashew nuts, and have the same from eating strawberries. The seeds get trapped in the scarred parts of the bowel. It was so bad I learned my lesson and don't eat any nuts or seeds now.

I can't do most small seeds - sesame seeds come out looking exactly the same as they went in. Strawberries do not digest at all, even the flesh doesn't digest so I'm sure the little seeds don't either. Tomatoes are the same, no part of them digests for me - tomatoes don't hurt going through though but strawberries do hurt, I'm not sure why that is. For some reason I haven't had a problem with blueberries, raspberries or blackberries, I can eat those just fine, they digest and I don't see the seeds in my poo later. It really seems to be trial and error. Try things in small amounts, see what digests and what doesn't, what hurts and what doesn't, etc.

I have never been told not to eat any of those things, but I know if I have sesame seeds they come out undigested. I know from experience not to eat excessive amounts of nuts - I put myself in hospital once from overindulging in macadamia nuts! Now if I do eat nuts it is only in small quantities and I chew very well. I don't eat a lot of strawberries so am not sure about that, and am not a big fan of blueberries so again am not sure. Next time I have a strawberry I will definitely be checking.

my doctor said I could eat tiny seeds like those in raspberries and that they wouldn't be a problem. but told me to stay away from the seeds that are big like pumpkin seeds.
