Hey Dusty,

Glad to hear your son is doing well and wanted to say I love this photo. It reminds me of my sister's place on Mt. Tamborine in Queensland. Beautiful! A lot nicer than the snow I woke up to this morning.

Absolutely beautiful pic! Was it taken from your home? Or nearby? If yes, I'm soooo jealous! What a stunning view!

Then again, I'm not a morning person... just thought :angry-banghead: ... maybe we have a nice sunrise too! LOL

 Tess!

It was taken across the road from my house, looking back over the town toward one of the hills in the east.

I have to spell it out to you Dex as it's not normally something Dexky Cletus would know...

Well it's almost summer so I can soon rig the garden hose from the well-house to my home-made shower out by the outhouse. Phew, it can't come soon enough!!

Well back from Sydney and I had a fab time down there visiting Sarah and attending my Mum and Dad's 60th Wedding anniversary!
desismileys_0152.gif
They didn't know I would be there so the surprise was fab!...

Bailey the big hairy cat has been having a hard time getting around of late. He has gone out in sympathy with you Grumletum! Well not quite, he was too wimpy to break anything but he did need a visit to the vet and he does have a poultice under all that bandaging!

What a lovely picture of your folks, Dusty, and poor old Bailey. Sign his 'cast' on my behalf and give him a cuddle from me xxx

@ Dex, it is held in Uralla. The large lanterns are reused and they add new ones each year. The smaller ones are made each year by the school children.

This is a pic that Matt did of Sarah (5 y/o), Stella and the last supper. I hope no one is offended!...

@ Tess, thanks for the links Tess but I was blubbering by the end of first one!

@ Grumbletum, thanks hun. :) I will give him a big hug, the spoilt big git!

Offended? - Cats were once worshiped in certain parts of the world - apparently my cat has not forgotten this.

Cute picture! :)

Yeah, the first one is sad :( But, still... the two of them were so adorable! Growing up, I had two cats and a dog - brought back memories! And, what a gentle giant that dog is in the second link... so patient! Shame my husband's not a cat person... would love to bring a kitty home! Maybe I'll just leave a 'homelss and abandoned' kitty at our front door!;)

Well things have been chugging along nicely here.

Sarah has gone raw vegan and is in the process of tweaking things so that she can maintain her weight. She says she feels fab so hopefully all works out well for her. In the process of all this she announced she has a boyfriend and for those of you that remember anything about Matt and his interests you should find this amusing! Her boyfriend is doing his Phd in Mathematics and plays and coaches soccer! Well of course I had to say to her that it is so lovely she loves her brother soooooo much she had to go out find someone just like him! I swear you could have heard the squeal of protest fair across the other side of the world! Her eventual response was...He looks like Matt on paper but is way cooler!

Matt is as happy as a pig in shit because...the soccer season has commenced!
soccer-1.gif
At least now he may get some extra Vit D! :D He has also picked up some more tutoring jobs, hmmmm I might have to hit him up for a loan!

Well it is a public holiday here on Wednesday...Anzac Day. I will go to the dawn service and then to the march a little later in the morning. Quite a few of my relatives have served in wars...WW1, WW2 and Korea. It is a sad day at times but also lovely to remember the supreme sacrifice that they made...

LEST WE FORGET

Dusty-I should wander out of the parents forum more often-love to hear about your dribs andd drabs! How wonderful for sarah...a phd ooh lala! Raw vegan...does that mean everything in its natural state and no meat products? The last supper pic cracks me up!

You hit the nail on the head with raw vegan Angie!

Well Anzac Day is always a bit of an emotional day for me but it was even more so this year........

An elderly neighbour of mine died that day. :( R was in the army in WW2 and was stationed in Singapore when it fell to the Japanese in 1942. He was captured and taken to Changi POW camp. After some time he was forced marched to work on the Thai Burma railway. R was not a medical man but during this time it fell to him to treat his fellow POW's ailments and perform operations which he did under the instruction of Weary Dunlop via radio. After the war R gradually became blind due to the shrapnel that had lodged in his brain from an exploding shell when the Japanese attacked Singapore.

It seems fitting that R passed away on Anzac Day. RIP R, such a gentle, kind and unassuming man. Another hero gone but never forgotten.

Sarah has been home for a flying visit and brought her soapbox with her! I think this sums it up nicely...

photo.jpg

Dusty. :hallo3:

Thanks hawkeye!

It was taken at Matt's Year 12 formal. Our academic years go from Feb-Dec.

Whoa what a week!

Started with Sarah saying she felt unwell, then had the accreditors at work for 2 full days...nothing like having people looking over your shoulder and picking ya to pieces for a bit of fun and excitement, NOT!...and finally Bailey, the big hairy cat, had a trip to the Vet.

Turns out s Sarah is fine......try wiping that off my face!

We passed accreditation, 44 out of 44 standards met...:panda::panda::panda:

Now Bailey...well he experienced a drop in appetite last weekend and then went off his food altogether and had obvious weight loss. drooped him off at the Vet Thursday morning on my way to work and a couple of hours later the Vet rings and says he thinks he may be in renal failure and asked for permission to do more bloods. Then he rings about an hour after that again and said they did an in house for Feline AIDS and Bailey has it and do I still want the other bloods done. Decided I would go with the further bloods so I could ascertain if we were dealing with one or two diseases and how severe the renal disease is.
So Bailey stayed at the Vet's overnight.

I worried about Sarah as Bailey is the cat that saw her through some bloody awful times six years ago. The Vet rang yesterday morning and said that Bailey had had a good night and was eating and drinking well and the renal function tests showed that he wasn't in renal failure! and I was doing the happy dance big time! :panda::panda::panda:

I picked him up at lunchtime and hopefully the antibiotics will take care of the infection and kick him into remission, with any luck for a very long time! I need to contact the Vet once the antibiotics are finished and discuss his progress. Onwards and Upwards Bailey...

1961_1090056530499_1199063506_30278749_3703_n.jpg

...when I picked Bailey up the Vet was chatting about mouth ulcers and Bailey being immunocompromised which led to me telling him the kids had Crohn's and then we had an interesting discussion about Bovine and Ovine Johnes Disease and him asking loads of questions about CD and if the kids had been tested for MAP. Who'd have thought...

Dusty. :hippy:

Soooooooo glad that both Sarah and Bailey are doing OK. Wow, this kind of stress in one week you don't need. I love Bailey - his eyes are amaaaazing xxx

So glad to hear that Sarah and Bailey are both ok

Our kitty is getting old, 10 1/2 years now, and I find myself getting nervous when he sneezes ! He's been quite healthy always, but I know he's starting to get to his "old" age now. Amazing how much we care for our animals.

Hope all continues to go well !

So happy to hear that Sarah is well and Bailey! I have when our animals are sick, it is so disheartening :(

He is a very very cute little kitty!

Thanks guys...

The Vet rang on Tuesday to check up on Bailey and I was able to give a positive report. :)

Not much changed with him over the weekend but Monday morning he started scoffing down the food like there was no tomorrow and it has stayed that way. He is looking better in himself too. I have to check in with the Vet again at the end of course of antibiotics and see what the plan is from there, hopefully we can keep the aids under check and go back to the old status quo!

Dusty. :sun:

I'm glad he's eating again! that is usually a good sign. When my little kitty was sick, we couldn't get him to eat anything and he just got to skin and bones.

Hopefully he keeps getting better and better!!

Hi Dusty
You have certainly been through the wringer, what a terrible time for you, glad to hear things are getting better and that Sarah is Aok .
In all of the turmoil, you have found time for others on this forum---you are a very special
person.
Just love the cat---where did his name come from? very a propos and suits him so well.
Cheers on the accreditation---used to love those!!!! not
Hugs
Trysha

Hey Trysha,

We didn't get him as a kitten, he was 3 years old, so that was the name he came with. :)

Well Winter is really starting to set in. Minus 8 yesterday morning and today bloody cold and wet...

...but after such a crap day what a fab ending...

WOW at that pic, Dusty...gorgeous! Glad to hear Bailey is doing a bit better :) So funny to see you settling in for winter...supposed to be almost 90 here today for Memorial Day weekend. :)

Well Winter is really starting to set in. Minus 8 yesterday morning and today bloody cold and wet...

I was in Australia for two years (100 years ago) - I had almost forgotten it gets cold - I remember the rain though - like ours but warm.

Beautiful sunset

Thanks Angie. :)

Excuse my ignorance but what is Memorial Day? Is it a long weekend?

Dusty. :)

Sarah has her first wisdom tooth!

She didn't think it was funny though when I asked if she was going to out and celebrate her new found wisdom. :ylol:

Now for something completely different and random...

...at the pub...drinkin' rum and coca cola!

Dusty. :cheerss:

OMG, this is F*&%#ing hilarious...

AN earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 has been recorded tonight between Tamworth and Gunnedah.

Emergency services received phone calls from areas including Tamworth, Gunnedah and Malues Creek from about 9.30pm reporting that the ground moved and buildings rattled.

No one has been reported injured and there have been no reports of damage.

Geoscience Australia reported a quake of 3.9 magnitude at 9.31pm.

It had a depth of 17km and Geoscience Australia’s website indicated it was not considered significant.

Police media said they had received a number of calls from Tamworth residents who reported their windows had shaken and thought someone was trying to break in.

The quake struck west of Manilla north of Lake Keepit.

The quake is not considered one to launch a tsunami.

Yes the Earth did shake, and no Mr Kat and I weren't in bed , but a tsunami??? Give me break! We are three hours drive to the ocean and the epicentre was further west than us. I think this puts it more into perspective...

Did you manage to pick the chair up ok? The pic was funny.

I was so surprised to read about the quake in Auzzie - don't happen often and that was a little on the shallow side too.

Pity you weren't in bed - then you could have said "Did the earth move for you, darling?" :ylol2:

It was nerve wracking but I managed it! :ylol:

The Earth always moves for Mr Kat so I doubt he would had been able to tell the difference! Ahahahahahaha

Oh man, what a week...

Vent warning ahead cause I just have to get this outta my system...
Angry-Emoticon-2.gif

So last Saturday I get an email from Sarah saying she will need to move. It turns out her two flatmates, they are in a relationship, dump it in her lap that they want to move. Now don't get me wrong, I know that sharing a flat is fraught with potential problems but it goes deeper than that and that is what I am having trouble getting my head around.

There are many things that are pissing me off about this whole thing...

A bit of background first. One the girls has been Sarah's friend since kindergarten and we as a family and Sarah individually have helped this girl through some difficult family situations, her coming out to her parent's was one of the more difficult times she faced, as well as general everyday stuff e.g. her parents wouldn't find the time to take her to get her learners permit so we did.

When the lease was up in March Sarah said she wanted to move, the other two were adamant they wanted to stay, so Sarah says...well I would like to move out so perhaps they could someone else to move in. They beg her to stay so she does. Thank goodness they didn't take out another lease but rather are on a three weeks notice to vacate plan.

So after telling her they are thinking of moving last Saturday they tell her Tuesday morning they have found a place and have already applied. By this time Sarah is so bloody anxious and freaked out she is barely sleeping or functioning. :( Bear in mind that it was a Public Holiday last Monday so bloody tell me they haven't had this planned and had already looked around! I swear to god I could the string the F*&^%ing pair up! Grrrrrrrrrr. I am just so disappointed in their behaviour, it is disrespectful and selfish to say the least. God knows I am not saying that Sarah is an angel, far from it but she is also the only one with a car and runs them around and then I find out yesterday from a mutual friend of theirs that the other girls are doing no cleaning or general upkeep in the flat, Sarah is doing it all plus they have been having digs at her about her eating and exercise habits. I already knew about this last one.

I have no doubt that Sarah will be far, far better off away from them but they could have been kinder and more considerate. I can only assume that they made sure they had somewhere else to live before dropping the bombshell to Sarah. No doubt they were afraid she might find somewhere first and then they would be left in the lurch. :voodoo:

As it is Sarah has found somewhere else to live. I have a cousin and her husband rattling around in a huge two storey house by themselves, the top storey is pretty much self contained, and they will love having Sarah there. Probably not the most ideal place for Sarah, it is a bit of a commute but not too far and it will at least buy her time. The other bonus is they love cats!

Then today Matt goes to his soccer game only to find the location has been changed to another town! Nothing like telling the players! Sometimes I wonder if the organisers of these games could organise a root in a brothel! :eek2:

Vent and rant well and truly over!
phew.gif

If you read through all that then you deserve one of these...
medal-028.gif

Dusty. :tinfoil:

Ugh, the selfish rats. You're right, sounds like she will be better without the inconsiderate sods. One of them at least must know what Sarah's been through and that this kind of stress is not good for her.
Hope that the move works well for her and is as hassle free as possible xxx

What a pain up the butt for Sarah! - some females can be so scheming and manipulative it's nasty and they think they are so clever that people can't see through what they have done. Why can't people just behave as adults and take responsibility and treat each other with respect. I wish Sarah well and hopefully the opportunities to find some more mature adult friends that can do this.

Interesting way to play soccer with no players turning up - just the grass and the worms...

How disappointing for Sarah that such a close friend could behave this way! Always amazes me to see how low, untrustworthy and unreliable some people really are! But, without a doubt, she is better off without them! I think your cousins place sounds ideal -living on her own but... with family and support so near!

That really sucks that they did that to Sarah. Like she doesn't have enough to deal with!

And picking on her eating/exercising habits, that's ridiculous. They should have been supportive of her, that's what real friends do. She definitely deserves better than that.

I'm glad that she has a nice place to go to though! That will be great for her!

Thanks guys. :) I'm still pissed but will just have to let it go.

And now for something completely different...biggest frost of the year so far...reached to the top of the trees...brrrrrrrrrr ...

That looks soooooo cold! Having a heatwave here - approx. 40celcius here today! :D Love the heat!

Dusty, those pictures are stunning ! :)

I can't believe those girls did that to her ! Especially the friend from kindergarten! Ughhh..I'd like to string them up for you! :ymad:

How is Sarah feeling ? Hopefully this stress isn't causing her any weight loss again ?

:ghug:

The fire is still roaring Aura and now I'm melting!
melting.gif

Sarah is doing well T, she seems really relaxed and happy. :) No weight loss that she has mentioned but she has started back onto raw vegan and has given up coffee/caffeine cold turkey! :ywow: I think she is in a better place right now and obviously feels that this time round she has an opportunity to do things properly. Maybe some flatmate angst last time???

You can have the heat Tess! :voodoo:

Dusty. :panda-wave-t:

The morning looked crisp, the barbed wire pics looked especially great......we'll have that to deal with here after the summer....had a bit of a heat wave here this week, it was in the mid to high 20's most of the week.

Yes it was crisp hawkeye, too bloody crisp!

Sarah moves into her new digs today and seems pretty darned happy and relaxed so I am too! She has said that it is so far so good with raw vegan this time round and no caffeine. She is a tad on the tired side which she puts down to adjusting to no caffeine but I couldn't let the opportunity pass so had to mention to stay on top of the B12! You would be so proud of me David!

Matt just received his semester one results from uni...4 HD's...Woohoo! I can't let it pass that it is the 100th birthday of Alan Turing, someone Matt greatly admires. Such a brilliant mind and one of the reasons I am tapping away now, shame about the views of society in the past and very fitting that he finally received an apology from the British Government in 2009.

Had a visit from Sarah this week and it was fab to see her. She is looking good and the raw vegan diet is going well. As much as the move is a bit of a pain commute wise I think getting away from the flatmates has been a godsend...she is much more relaxed. :)

Onwards and Upwards!

Dusty.

What a gorgeous picture, dusty!! I love it. It does look quite cold :) We'll send you some warmth from over here-it's HOT!

Glad Sarah is doing well! Seems she is in a much better environment for herself!

Nooooooooooo! you can keep your heat!

Yeah, I think she is in much better surroundings now. :)

Our native trees keep their leaves in winters. Only the tree from other places lose their leaves.

Yep, what she said^^^^

Our natives are evergreens but having 4 distinct seasons where I live we have introduced deciduous trees, so basically the same colours as you would have there.

Matt hasn't been his usual self this past week but seems to be on the up again now. :) With it being Winter here there are bugs galore floating around so I think he picked one of them up but it never really came to anything.

Sarah spent last weekend at the State Labour Party Conference. Yes this was the event she gave up going to the US for because she was a delegate and is committed! This is a pic of her receiving an award for her outstanding participation in a course she attended over a 10 week period called Campaign Insight. It was all about how to run an election campaign. The guy presenting it to her is the State Labour Party leader...

photo.jpg

...did she enjoy the weekend? You betcha!

Dusty. :hippy:

Good for sarah!!!

If she does end up coming to the US, she'll always have a safe place to come to! (not sure where she was going though!) :)

Glad Matt is starting to feel better!

Wow, CONGRATULATIONS to Sarah!!! How amazing for her! :award2:

(And, you too mum! :D) You must be VERY proud!! :Karl:

Good to hear Matt's doing well!! :D

OMG! This is hilarious! Why did Sarah believe him?!?!?! :rof:

A bit of background first...

One of Sarah's units this semester at uni is modern European history. She did study ancient history at school but not modern. As a result her knowledge is somewhat...er lacking but rather than seek the answers for herself she frequently takes the easy option and texts Matt instead. Of course this action can be fraught dangers as you will see...

Sarah:

What is the Czar in Russia?

Matt:

The Czar is a big dragon like creature. Once a year the strongest villager is chosen to fight the Czar in a battle to the death. If he is successful, he becomes the King of Russia and wins a lifetime supply of vodka.

...As it turns out Sarah was in a tutorial when she asked Matt this question and one of the criteria that needs to be met is participation. So with time fast running out she...yes she did!...she asked the tutor what the big dragon Czar animals actually were that the people fought!

The tutor was none too impressed and asked if she was on acid! :rof:

Sarah ran the City2Surf today!
604027d1326739923-hyt-new-dawn-watchmaking-smiley_running.gif
At the start of the race she said all she could smell was Dencorub! I reckon that's better than what she would be smelling at the end of the race! :ylol:...

About 85,000 people took part in the race, which tracks a 14 kilometre path from Hyde Park to Bondi Beach.

Amid chilly and windy conditions, Bondi Beach was swarming with exhausted runners after the annual race.

The average time to complete the run is 1 hour and 15 minutes.

...The winner completed the race in 41minutes and 31 seconds and Sarah took about an hour or so more than that!

IMG_6266.jpg

...Last word has it that she is exhausted and passed out on the bed! Oh well, at least she made it home!

Well done Sarah and thanks all for the support, it is very much appreciated. :rosette2:

Great job Sarah. A lot of inspiring stories when you hear why some people run / took up running.

Was out at our local annual marathon today....reading this post and the experience today makes me want to get the treadmill set up and back into it - maybe the 5 miler next year, unsure if I want to do any more than a 10K.
