Hi Ladies
Do any of you get like labour pains when having a bm it does not happen all the time.
I am usually on the loo for about 30mins when it happens it leaves me with stomach pain for the rest of the day.

When I got sick in Dec/January I had some pains that felt like bad labor pains. They were bad pains and scared my mother. You might want to ask the doc to run a fecal cal test on you to check your numbers. I hope you feel better.

It happened during what I think was my first flair in Dec-Feb. We were visiting my mother, and after one bathroom episode I told her the pain was worse then anything associated with my C-section. At that point she started asking if she should take me to the emergency room.

My diagnosis is tentative at this point, but specialist sounds sure I have Crohn's. So far he's seen inflammation and pseudo polyps in my sigmoid colon.

Hi Kate
I hope you are feeling better also.
I am having a capsule endoscopy on the 4th July hope to get some answers then. My husband and I are going on holiday at the end of July hope nothing gets in the way of that.
First holiday in five years so keep your fingers crossed for me😁

Good luck! It sounds like my doc might do the capsule for me, depending on what he finds in the upper & lower scope in August. It sounds like a lot of people finally get diagnosed because of the capsule. Have fun on your holiday and fingers crossed all goes well!

Thanks I am a little disappointed as I have waited six months for an appointment but better safe than sorry don't want to pass this on it is quite painful at the moment.

Two friends have gotten shingles -- one in her 30s and the other in her 40s. Did they make another appointment for you?

I didn't know that shingles could be contagious. I hope you feel better quite soon. Are you still able to go on your vacation?

Hi Kate
Yes I have to go back on the 25th July at the same time 10am it does not effect my holiday thank goodness.
I was told by the IBD nurse that while I have the spots I can give someone chickenpox as it is the same virus.
Wild horses would not stop me from this holiday as both my husband and I are so looking forward to it.
I hope you are well.

Wow this thread just threw me completely! I have just posted something similar and scrolled down and found this. Honestly wondered if I had written it myself as I go by “curly wurly” on some other sites and you’re also the first person I’ve come across on here to refer to the toilet as a “loo” like I do! I had to read the whole thing to be sure I hadn’t posted this in my sleep and forgotten about it!

Coincidences aside, I too have been experiencing pain like labour pain. I ended up at the hospital last minute with both of my births because I was convinced it was just Crohns pain (I had Crohns before I had children). I didn’t realise how severe the pain of Crohns was until I realised that the labour pains I had been warned and preparing for were actually the exact same thing I had already been experiencing for years.

I wish I had answers and help for you, but my colonoscopies continue to come back showing “mild inflammation” which doesn’t really match the pain I experience every time I go to the toilet. I hope you get some answers. If you do, please let me know what it is so I can take it back to my gastro team and tell them my problem could be the same! I think that they think I’m just being a drama queen to be honest.

I didn't know that shingles could be contagious.
I had a case of shingles back in March.

Shingles is contagious and is spread by the flaking of dry skin from the blisters. Only people who never had chicken pox or have not had the vaccine are vulnerable. While the same virus causes both shingles and chicken pox, a person who contracts the virus develops chicken pox not shingles. The virus stays dormant in your body and you can develop shingles at a later time. There's no way to eradicate the virus from your body.

Most cases of shingles are on the torso, I had it on the top of my head. It didn't itch but I had constant headaches for a week. Head infections can be dangerous because the virus can affect your eye and cause blindness. Fortunately I was diagnosed early and my doctor squeezed me in to see the eye doctor ASAP the same day.

If you're on immunodepressants (IE prednisone) and you develop shingles, see a doctor ASAP or go to the ER. This is a dangerous combination.

Male here with no experience in labor pains but plenty with abdominal cramps from CD. When I get "the cramps" I mix 8oz of greek yogurt with a heaping spoon of honey and eat it. The yogurt has probiotics that is friendly to the piping, and the honey is a natural anti-inflammatory. This helps to shorten the duration of the cramps.

I eventually noticed a pattern between cramps and certain foods. I have now identified the trigger foods through (painful) isolation process, and since they have been eliminated from my diet the cramps are far less frequent. But I could develop new reactions at any time. The perplexing thing about CD is that no two patients have the same trigger foods; most cannot tolerate dairy products but they do not bother me.

My GI was impressed at this yogurt/honey home remedy and how I controlled CD through diet. He was even more impressed that my last colonoscopy was so clear that he scheduled my next one out to 10 years not the usual 5.

It won't help a blockage though - that requires a visit to ER.

Thank you for this message! I've also been using the greek yogurt and honey. Do you have any other diet suggestions for controlling Crohn's?

have you tried CBD OIL as an alternative? CBD Oil is from the flower of Cannabis and now can Relief Pains but soon it will be a cure in people especially in curing Cancerous people. I may be looking forward to this and I am always! but for now, I guess we could start planting cannabis for the future and start searching seeds to plant. In researching I across this page blimburnseeds.com/news/marijuana/medical/is-it-safe-to-use-cbd-during-pregnancy/

Anything that is a natural anti-inflammatory seems to control it. Dark chocolate is one (YAY!)

If you had resection surgery, avoid spicy condiments and artificial cheeses (beware of restaurants). The spicy condiments can aggravate the adhesive from the sutures, causing it to swell and creating a blockage which will land you in the hospital. Artificial cheeses have bound up on my adhesives and created a blockage.

Due to the high level of artificial foods and condiments I have cut way back on eating out (esp the chains) and switch to making my own meals. You would be shocked how much artificial (and unhealthy) stuff the restaurants use.

Thank you -- I really appreciate the suggestions. I've been trying to avoid processed sugar and inflammatory foods, but it's hard to be consistent. A nutritionist suggested to add ground flax seeds to my diet for fiber, so I've been putting that in the greek yogurt/ honey combo.
