hi ladies,

Do any of you wear make up so others don't ask "are you feeling ok, you look sort of pale"? If so, what is your favorite brand and why. Where do you purchase it (other than Walmart), and have you ever had your colors done after you were diagnosed to see what looks best on you so you can look great even if you feel yucky while flaring.

I went to a community night school where they had a course on getting your colors done which compliment your features: eyes, hair, facial shape (the prednisone chipmonk cheeks was my concern) and the instructor was really great as she said that we can wear all colors (lighter or darker depending on our features) that will make us look healthy and brighten our faces.

I then went on to take another course on how to update your look in your wardrobe with what you have in your closet using a few simple items like a belt, scarf, necklace, etc. It saved me some money as I have several sizes of clothes due to the steroids back in the 1980s - 1990s. I bet a few of you can relate to having many sizes due to being on the 'roids.

I'm just curious as to what you use if you have dark circles under your eyes as well. thanks for your advice. have a great day. :D

I use MAC Matchmaster (available at MAC stores and MAC counters in department stores). Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse worked well for me, too. I do have dark circles but usually the foundation takes care of that. On bad days, I use Clinique All About The Eyes Concealer.

Hope that helps! :)

For the past year, I've been using Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. It is medium buildable coverage and I like to apply it with a dense, round top kabuki brush. Sometimes the foundation alone is enough to cover circles. On days when it isn't enough I like to use the Laura Mercier concealer.

I have stuck with the E. Lauder foundation because I like how it looks on my skin. The Double Wear foundation is for a slightly oiler skin. I tend to get oil in my t-zone.

I fully recommend going to a department store to have your skin tone matched instead of playing guessing games in the drugstore.

I hope this was helpful :)

i use the same Estee Lauder double wear foundation, conceal fx concealer, and a MAC blush, called Mocha, gives your cheeks a healthy glow!!!

Last time I had my makeup colors done was over 12 years ago before I got married. Mainly I usually use covergirl or maybelline whichever is less expensive. Got to admit that mostly I buy it from Kroger/fredmeyer because I get a discount to make it easier on the checkbook.

Neutrogena is the best brand of makeup I've ever used.

Most days I just throw on come concealer, mascara and darken my eyebrows with an eyebrow powder from Sephora using a small angled brush.

When I was on Prednisone I wore a lot more makeup, usually did my eyes up like a doll to remove focus from the rest of my face and sometimes a bright pink lipstick.

Only when I got so run down that I went to work with no makeup on, did people realize by my eye circles and general paleness that something was actually wrong and I wasn't just phoning in sick for the hell of it.

I use Clinique products as they have an anti redness and a SPF 15 in them.

I use bare minerals make up! I use a liquid concealer under my eyes and rub it in really good and then apply the make up over that. Bare minerals has something called 'warmth" and I swipe that on my cheeks so I don't look so pale. I also get a white eyeshadow and after applying the foundation, brush a little under my eyes and rub it in, really helps lighten up the dark circles between that and the concealer!

Just came upon this post now.

MAC concealer works for me. One time I wore it the day after a bad breakup and one of my male colleagues (who is usually tuned out about these things) told me I looked great! It works that well. :) It comes in lots of different skin tones, too.

Recently also tried Nanoblur and found it to be good for blotches and dark circles under the eyes as well. It is colourless so anyone can use it at any time of year. One thing with it, though, is it flakes on dry skin, so you have to use a moisturizer first unless your skin is oily where you plan on putting it.

PS -- if you know what shade & brand of makeup you want in advance, you can almost always find it at a discount online. eBay is great for makeup.

I have tried many diferent makeups over the years but the best for naturalcolor is bare minerals or sheer cover. The bronzer is fantastic, covers the pale. Helps disguise the weight loss, fatiuged, insomnia look too :).

I may be the odd duck out, but I don't wear makeup. My mother never wore makeup so when I was hitting puberty and wanted to experiment with makeup, she had no tips or suggestions for me, and that was in the days before the internet so I was on my own. So seeing as how it was the late 80s/early 90s, I just slathered on a lot of bright blue/green/purple eyeshadow like everybody else seemed to do. Sexy, I know. :p

Since those days though, I've never really bothered with wearing makeup - what you see is what you get. I know this is an "invisible illness" but it can show itself in my face when it wants to (particularly in the form of paleness), and I don't hide it when it does show itself - if anything, people treat me more kindly, co-workers put off asking me about projects and stuff until they can see that I'm looking better, etc. And if I'm really ill to the point where it is showing on my face, I just wouldn't have the energy or willpower to put on makeup anyway. I'm in remission now, but as I recall, it was a monumental effort just to shower or dress myself on the bad days, so makeup would have been out of the question. Just not a priority at all for me.

When I'm not feeling that great, I have learned that wearing a little make up perks up my mood and makes me feel good.

I prefer the natural look when wearing makeup as it's easier to put on (just foundation, blush, and lipstick) when I am running errands, but to each his own. thanks again girls for your help.

I too don't wear makeup.....I used to occasionally when I was single and socially active....I liked unman...cover girl I think is what I used.....I do keep a compact at my desk of cover girl powder just to use if I look shiny......

I am a makeup junkie, so any questions about makeup, I probably have answers to! Lol

I use Benefits Erase Paste for my under eye circles. It has a slight peachy color which helps with the blueish colors under my eye. Also Bobbi Browns corrector and concealer works well too.

To bring color back into my pasty face, I use either Benefits Box Blushes, usually Bella Bamba. Its a bright pink which helps make me look more healthy. I also like Milani blushes, which can be found at the drugstore.

Hope this helps!

I don't wear makeup much. Like cat, my mum never bothered so I didn't experiment much during puberty. Besides, I am mixed race, and as a teenager I could never find makeup that suited my skin colour. The mainstream shops only stocked shades from porcelain to light tan, and I'm not dark enough to wear Afro Carribean makeup! Things are slightly better now, but I guess I'm just not in the habit and I only bother if I'm going out somewhere dressy.
