Hey my fellow ostomates got a question for you all. I heard that drinking soda can make your bag fill up with gas and it gets full of air so I have stayed away from soda thinking it was the carbonation that causes that. I started drinking sweet tea instead and it still seems to blow up pretty big at night or after I drink the tea. Is it caffeine that makes it fill up with gas? I'm just not sure what I should drink that would cause it to not blow up!

Everyone is different. But is it possible it's the sugar that is getting to you?

Do you take probiotics? That could help.

sometimes my bag inflates with air. i have not yet found a link to anything i have eaten as i eat a bit of everything lol.

i do think bags will inflate more at night for some reason and could also be because you empty less.

i live on fizzy drinks and don't drink much else, i heard on this forum that a lot of ostomates couldn't drink it but i have never had any problems :)

I've never had problems with pop either...I drink it all the time and don't find that it makes my bag fill up too much. I use a filtered bag though, so if I do have the farts it tends to dissipate it pretty fast.

For me I could drink nothing but coke one day and not have a balloon bag in the morning, I could also do the same thing and have a balloon bag the next morning. It doesn't really matter and I think it has more to do with how much I eat and how late.

I love to eat ice.... but it will fill the bag within hours with air/gas. So if I'm gonna chew on ice for awhile I know I will have to deal with it for sure. Whatever I drink has never seemed to matter.

I avoid soda, beer, carbonated drinks in general when I know I won't get a chance to burb my bag cause it really inflate my bag. Coffee and teas don't seem to be a problem for me though, it upsets my digestion and give me noisy stomach but I don't see difference in the amount of air in my bag. It would not be impossible that caffeine causes it I believe though.

the only time my bag fills with gas is when I eat real fatty foods, mainly fast food joints. I find it funny that the fact fast food will make me gain wieght didn't make me stopping eating it, but the fact that it turns my bag into a Thanksgiving day parade balloon does.
Even though the gas I'm our bags is lighter then the air around us it still wont trick the scales telling is we're thinner.
