Carol, that bicycling book in particular sounds like my sort of book. I've recently read "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed (about her walk along the entirety of the Pacific Crest Trail) and I also read "AWOL on the Appalachian Trail" (I forget the name of the author). I love the idea of just going out and having a long adventure while walking/hiking/bicycling a long distance. But I just don't think it's in the cards for me. In both those books I read, they talked a bit about how important it is to pack light, and it's just not possible for me to pack light. It's probably not possible for any of us on here - for me I know I'd need to bring at least a dozen pill bottles plus other things like wipes, extra pants, etc. And the description of the foods that they bring along don't sound belly-friendly to me at all either. So yeah, it's a lovely thought, of being able to have such a grand adventure, but sadly I don't think it's realistic for my life.

Sandy, "Gerbil-a-Tonic" just sounds wrong! :p Yes, I'm SO glad my cat came home. I let my dog out to potty this morning and the cat tried to bolt out the door with the dog - I jumped in her way and was like, "NO!!!!" I'm being slightly over-protective of her now.

I've read most of Bill Bryson's books. He's an absolute treasure. A WALK IN THE WOODS was about his walk with an old school friend along the Appalacian Trail. It was excellent although,as with all his travel books,it's a laugh out loud adventure. My hubby got quite annoyed when I kept laughing in bed.I mean I wasn't laughing at HIM !!!
Robert Redford stared in the film last year, but I didn't fancy it.It won't be nearly as good as the book,as is usual with film follow-ups.

Oh, Carol, I agree. Wild was a MUCH better book than a movie. Not so humorous though, more like heartbreaking. She was using the walk as a way to work through the grief of losing her mother. But I can relate to that so much too, I also use fitness as a way to work through things like stress, grief, etc.

Mandy, Sandy and I are so sorry to hear about the bombing in Manchester today. Our thoughts and prayers are with you folks.

Thanks guys..
I didnt even know about it till i read you msg Doug. Just put the news on now as iv got up... how awful!!! What is the world coming too ???
Im about 11 miles away from Manchester but my son, grandson n his mum are only about 2/3 miles away from the center...
I too feel so sorry for all caught up in this tragady. 💝

This terrorism junk has to be stopped. How can anybody feel they have the right to kill innocent men, women and children? It is totally beyond my comprehension.

Iv just heard on news that a lad from my town has died in the bombing also one from near where i work. An 8yr old girl was the youngest to lose her life . Oh my lord it is so unfair poor poor families 💕💞

I've been following the news on this and a mum of a 15 yr old girl cried on tv coz she is missing :( not on the deceased list, not in any hospital but missing. The uncertainty she must be going through is so heartbreaking.

I just don't know what to say Mandy. These cowardly attacks need to be stopped. It is so so sad.

I dont know where the terrorists mind is. I went to the dermatologist today. She froze several places off of my face. One of them didnt fall off. She took a piece of it and sent it away for a biopsy

We recently got a small step stool for the toilet, and I must say it makes a lot of difference ;)

Winning...

Madhu, I have one of those too! I wanted one of those squatty potty things but they seemed a bit pricey to me, so my hubby just built me one instead out of some wood. It definitely seems to help. I feel more comfortable and I seem to get less hemorrhoids.

I know what you mean. In india, most of the toilets are designed in a way that you can't sit comfortably like we do now. You have to squat completely. That's the optimal way of using a toilet. When we went to india last year, we couldn't do that because we got used to sitting comfortably in the US

Thanks,

I just learned something new. It totally makes sense that that is the natural position. I may make a foot stool as well. Is there a certain height that works best for a 6'1' user?

Thanks you guys for all your prayers, words, and thoughts. It means a lot and its much appreciated. A horrible tragedy caused by despicable so called humans. We will stand united and be brave. We will not kow down to their like. We will rise above them and carry on.

Love n best wishes to all 💕💕💕

Good attitude, Mandy. This world has definitely changed in the past twenty years or so, the bad are getting worse, but the good are also rising.
And I must make me a little stool for our bathroom with my jigsaw.:eek::tongue:
Winning.

Cmack, my husband had looked online at squatty potty stools and what their height is. I think he said he found some that were 6 inches high and some that were 10 inches, so he split the difference and built an 8 inch tall one for us. (I could be wrong on the heights so you may want to look for yourself to see what the typical heights of those things are.) I would think for a taller person you might want to go for the tallest height that they make when building one for yourself, but that's just my guess. I'm 5'8" and my hubby is 5'11" so we're slightly shorter than you. The 8 inches or whatever it was that my hubby built, that's been working great for both of us.

I remember someone mentioning a while ago, that she used a multi-pack of toilet rolls
as an alternative.

Are there any 12 gauge shotgun owners on here? I'm looking for an all purpose bush gun, it has to be good for clay pigeons and also possibly hunting. I prefer something that has removable chokes and has a bead sight. Any info appreciated.

Sorry, CMACK, I love the out of doors, but not guns or hunting. Fishing I can do, but not hunting or even target practice. I would shoot myself in the foot.:yfaint::ylol: It may be a kayak day tomorrow after Doug's eye doc appt, if his eyes adjust back to normal after being dilated quickly enough. Yay!

Cmack, I'm with Sandy, I'm pretty outdoorsy (I love hiking, kayaking, etc) but I also hate guns. My hubby owns I think 2 guns, he keeps them under his side of the bed. I hate them so I never look at them. They're long guns but I always forget if they're shotguns or rifles - they're whatever is used for target practice as he only uses them for shooting those clay pigeon things. Fortunately he doesn't use his guns to kill anything, no hunting, and he keeps no ammo in the house, which makes me feel slightly better, but I still hate them.

Oddly enough, for somebody who hates guns, I'm apparently a pretty good shot. :p The hubby and his friends once took me target shooting at the gun range (and I think they only invited me as a joke). I went along because I had never shot a gun before except for a bb gun and I figured I should at least have an open mind and give it a try. I shot the biggest handgun they had, I think it was a 44 magnum? It was a huge revolver. I hit 5 out of 6 bullseyes on my first try, and I know what I did wrong on the one I missed. My hubby was super impressed, suddenly he was on facebook telling everybody what an amazing shot his wife is. :p And he made me save the paper man cutout with the bullet holes in it. Ha ha, I guess playing Duck Hunt and Hogan's Alley on the Nintendo all those years ago paid off.

So yeah, long story short, I don't know much about guns. I am glad I had the experience of shooting a gun at the range but I don't think I'd ever go again, I really didn't enjoy it (SO LOUD!) and I still highly dislike guns (SO SCARY!), no matter how good of a shot I apparently am.

Only thing im good at shooting is...my mouth off :rof:

Hi all hope your all having a good day. Much loves 💕💕💕

I probably won't be around the forum too much this long holiday weekend. Everybody behave or I'll drop the ban hammer when I get back! ;) Just kidding (or am I?).

Glad im not the only one cmack..😆
Cat have nice break.. n we will be good while you are gone....or will we 😃

I wish I could think of something naughty to do, but I'm too good ( so I've been told)

I'm going to read a book and keep out of mischief.

I love to laugh...to read history, listen to good music..light classics, opera etc...and to go for long walks in the country.
Currently I have two sisters seriously ill in England, one has a tear in the heart muscle which is being treated conservatively with pills..if this doesn't work then she has to have open heart surgery.
The second sister 'this morning had a GI bleed and was rushed into hospital...at the moment the docs think it is an upper GI bleed but I have not yet heard any outcome of diagnostic procedures or even if they have started any.
To make matters worse I cannot yet go to them due to my own health issues.
At least I can receive speedy updates via computer.
Also the sun is shining here after two wet soggy foggy days cold and miserable transformed into warm sunshine.
I am still shocked to the core over the Manchester terror attack....and feel so badly for the families.
Hope you are all feeling better today and recovering from all the bad news in the world.
Cheers Everybody!

Hi Trysha, good to see you.I'm sorry to hear about your sisters troubles. It must be very worrying for you being so far away, and given your own situation.I hope it all turns out OK for you all.I agree with you about the Manchester horror.Who knows what life has in store for any of us,or when it will end.All we can do is get on with it and be kind to those who need kindness ........I hope your health is improving Trysha and that you'll be able to meet up with your family soon

I really miss sitting behind the wheel of a semi truck. I used to drive all the ones that were at the shop. So cool to drive something so big and powerful. I have no class 1 license, but as a mechanic's apprentice, I was allowed to test drive all the trucks that were being serviced.

I agree! I bought the squatty potty that fits around the toilet which is so much nicer than my old step stool.

Sandy and I are busy this weekend too and may not be here much. Today we got our kayaks out at Bountiful Lake and had an enjoyable time. No flipping the kayak this time! Monday we are heading out to Lost Creek Reservoir and fishing, and kayaking. Good weekend!!!

Have a great and safe day D & S.When you have good days out in the wilds it does a power of good, mentally and physically. You'll be tired when you get back home, but it will be a GOOD tired.

Weekend coming to an end. We joined with 3 other families whose husbands all work with mine and went up to Lake Honeoye in new York. Rented out a lake side house and just hung out. Lots of food, great company, rowing on the lake and playing games. It's been a good weekend. Going back home tomorrow to gear up for the rest of the week. Hope everyone had a good weekend too :)

G'mornin', friends.Today I'm going to lie around like a loppy (fleas) dog.A stretch and a scratch will be the extent of my things to do list....Yawn !!!

Lol, Julie! Are you any better at all?
Trysha, all I can say is you need a break. I love your attitude and interests, and the things that you like are very similar to my likes.
Cat, I loved your shooting story. Carol, I hope you are enjoying your book. Ron, I burst out laughing when you said that you weren't being good. Laughter is so good for the soul.
Busy weekend, but we're b-a-c-k! Good and tired (like was mentioned), although I did just have the second part of my root canal first thing this morning. Darn tooth with starting to get very achy again. Feels much better now, infection totally cleaned out, and shouldn't feel anything in that tooth again. Permanent crown coming in a couple weeks as teeth with root canals tend to get brittle and need a crown eventually anyway. Compared to the last couple weeks, one achy tooth is no big deal.
I caught a record amount of fish for me yesterday, 11 brought to the shore, all but 2 released. (Even tho it was only what some people consider a "trash fish," the Utah chub.) Doug had a good day too and was able to get his kayak out on the bigger lake (Lost Creek Reservoir) and did well, able to fish and kayak at the same time with no rolling over. Yay! I stayed on shore because I was having my own "roll" catching fish after fish. :)
I've got to go put the rest of my groceries away before one of my cleaning girls gets here.

For those I didn't mention, I'm thinking of you too. Kirsty and Trev, are you around? Are you any better Kirsty?

Have a nice afternoon or whatever it is wherever you are.

It's nice to hear from you Sandy, I'm glad you two had fun, well, except for the tooth. Congratulations on breaking your fishing record! You sound like a far better angler than me, I'm lucky to catch two in a day. That's OK though, I just enjoy being out in the beauty of nature so any trip to the wilderness is always a good one. :)

Warning - long rant ahead, I need to vent. I really think I'm going to get laid off at work soon. I already told you guys about how it sounds like our office is "moving" soon (with only the sales people and not the administrative staff such as myself) - our leadership had no comment about that. Now today I found out that one of my projects has been reassigned to another person in another office (different state). And that was basically the only project I was doing that the new leadership liked. They don't care about anything else that I do and they don't need us, and there are all these signs like rumors about "moving" and projects being taken away (my boss had some of hers taken away too). So I really think I'm done for at work. It sucks. And they still haven't actually officially told us anything. It's so stressful. Sorry for venting. It's just been a really bad day since I found out about my project being taken away. They didn't even tell me directly, I just found out from my boss that another person is now doing it. Ugh! I just hate this.

So sorry Cat. I don't know how it works, but can you start looking for another job right away, just in case? So you can get started again without much of a break?

My father has been acting up in the nursing home. He may or may not need surgery. It may be an issue of not getting enough oxygen to the brain.

Oh, Cat and Ron, I'm so sorry you are dealing with your individual problems. Cat, I agree with Madhu, I would definitely start looking for another job while you are still employed. I have to say, I don't miss the days when I had to work and all the stresses that came from it. I hate office politics and stresses of changes in employment. Big hug to you. Ron, have they been testing your dad's oxygen levels periodically during the day? Being low on oxygen can definitely cause some behavior changes and poorer cognitive and memory impairment than he already has from his Alzheimer's. If that is what it is, wearing oxygen is an easy fix, especially since he is already in a care facility, if they can get him to wear it. He would definitely feel better. I hope he doesn't need surgery, life is already hard enough for him. Big hug to you too. I will keep you both in my prayers. I know you're not religious Cat, but it can't hurt.
CMACK, I'm really not a great angler. We just happened to be stuck at the shallow end of the lake where the chub were spawning (we didn't even know this lake had chub), and while spawning they are an easy catch. But we didn't know any of that until we got home and looked this species of fish up. But it was great fun. Depending on where we are and what time of year, I think our typical catch is about two fish (if we are lucky) also. Usually trout, which we definitely enjoy eating. We have a saying, it's a good day if you go fishing and don't catch anything (because you get to enjoy the great out-of-doors), and a great day if you catch anything.
Big hugs to all.
:ghug:
