Jane, it was great to hear from you! I'm sorry you have to deal with the effects of the Eagle Creek/Columbia River Gorge fire, I've understood from elsewhere how very nasty that one really is. My family used to travel down the Columbia River Gorge every year, several years in a row, to go visit friends in Portland. Very happy memories, and I was always mesmerised by the gorge. I had never seen such a big river! I'm still mezmorized by the gorge and was just telling Doug recently that he needs to see it as well as the northern West Coast (not just LA or near Disneyland).
We also had a small fire near us yesterday that destroyed six homes in a very, very short time. The 40 mile per hour sustained winds coming out of the canyon didn't help. Most of these destroyed homes, if in California, would have been multimillion-dollar homes. I don't know where people get all of their money (the homes are not so far behind in worth here!) It is such a waste when you see the destruction of these natural disasters.
We also have the brown sky now between that, Wyoming fires and your fire out west. Very hard on the lungs. You would think that fire season would have ended since it's already September.
Speaking of disasters, Ron, A neighbor's uncle who was in a nursing home in Texas had to be evacuated, then was moved several times afterward, couldn't find a place for the nursing home residents. I hope that doesn't happen to your father Ron, it is already hard enough to be displaced when you have normal thinking abilities.
Our company has come and gone. My brother-in-law was chomping at the bit to get on the road as soon as breakfast was done, it sure would have been nice to see them a little longer. I understand though, they have over 3 three hours driving each direction to do plus getting their daughter all situated in her new apartment for college. (They are staying with another brother tonight.)
Stay safe everyone.
I think I'm going to talk Doug into moving to England after he retires so we can get away from high altitude, earthquakes, smog and smoke, etc. :ytongue:
