I also cannot run. I've got arthritis in both hips which makes running really painful. My mother runs marathons but I can't even run 1/2 mile.

I think I told you guys that I'm hoping that Lily can see snow at least one more time? Well, our weather turned much colder - it was 75 degrees F and sunny on Saturday, but today it's 45 degrees, rainy and windy, and I got my winter coat out of the closet. I've also heard we might get snow flurries this week! It might actually happen!

....

lol, I can't even walk a half mile at once.

I think there are going to be TV wars here at home. Just saying, but most things will be ok.

Ron, when do you get the results of your MRI? And sorry about your Redskins last night. We watched the game because Doug's brother is a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. I thought the Redskins were going to take over for awhile! Thought of you.

I've been to the hairdresser today for my regular 6 weekly cut.I am now completely grey and am loving it.Not white, but more a gun metal streaky.I am / was a dark brunette and have been colouring an ashy blonde since my 50s,but it has all been trimmed of over the last 6 months, and I feel LIBERATED !!!

Awesome, Carol! Wear it as a badge of honor. I've noticed a trend, around here at least, gun metal grey seems to be all the rage with the younger people at least. (It is a pretty color.) Some of the young mothers at our church (early twenties to early thirties) color their hair that color in purpose. I used to color my hair too (anywhere from blond to auburn), but have also since gone au natural, and love it. My hair color, I'm sure, isn't a color as pretty as yours, but now say I earned all my grey hair mixed with my now light brown color (it used to be blond naturally). It keeps my hair healthier not to color as well. I'm happy with it.

Hi ya all.. iv just finished an 11 1/2 hour day. My pigging hip is killing me right now but i am smiling at the hair debate 😃. I was a dark auburn/brown once upon a go...been through reds and then dark blondes to light blonde which i am currently. Each time i get my hair cut i look at the grey and think its quite a nice colour. Then i think oh!! I look as old as i feel.. wheres that dye ??😃😃 im afraid im growing old disgracefully n thats that !!
I maybe a grandma and feel like a great grandma but il be damned if im goin to look like one . Well im trying not to any way 😉
Love hugs n best wishes to all 💞💝💕

Mandy, there's no shame in coloring your hair! I do the same. I started going grey at age 29, shortly before I got sick (I think that was my body's way of warning me that bad things were coming?). I'll be 38 in a couple of weeks so I still feel too young to have such greys. My natural hair color is light brown, but I think I look best with dark brown hair, so I color mine dark brown. I recently took a year off of dyeing it - my flare last year and pred made my hair brittle and break and fall out quite a bit, so I backed off of coloring it for about a year, but then a couple months ago I colored it again and loved it. I do buy the box dye that's easiest on hair, with no ammonia, and so far so good - it hasn't been breaking nor falling out so much. Someday I'm sure I'll keep the greys and rock that look, like Carol & Sandy, but for the time being I'm keeping my hair artificially dark brown. :)

Hey cat... I use the same type of dye for my hair. I only dye it every few months so not too often. I can usually get two cuts before re dying.
I have seen like Sandy young girls /women with dyed grey hair. I love some of the shades that are out at the moment. Have been tempted but fear I'd wouldn't suit them.
Maybe one day I will go grey or bald 😉

Cat - I am 54 and completely gray now. I also started going grey in my 20's. That was when I had my first crohn's related symptoms. I am convinced my premature gray hair was a sign of things to come.

Doug, I'm glad I'm not the only one! But sorry to hear that you went through the same thing.

I think my hair is 20ish years ahead of schedule. I have the same natural color and texture (very fine) of hair as my mother - we're basically hair twins. For years she had stick-straight hair, but around her late 40s or so she started going grey and then her hair became wavy. The same thing has happened to my hair - I went from completely straight hair to fairly wavy shortly after I started going grey - but it happened to me 20 years earlier than it did to my mother. I don't know how to feel about that. My hair seems to have the opinion that I'm much older than I actually am. It's not great. Although I do like it wavy, that makes it look fuller than it actually is. It's a mixed bag I guess.

My hubby is 30 and we recently started noticing few grey hair on his head. It started after he was diagnosed with crohn's almost 3 yrs back. We both have black hair and I'm hoping he would get a salt and pepper look in about 10 years. Lol. He is not happy about it

Thanks, Sandy. I missed a lot of the game because my stomach was flaring. My doctor should have the results tomorrow. Mandy, when I get my hair cut I notice gray hair on the floor.

Yes, (says the non-IBDer). It can be part of neuropathy Ron. Do you take calcium with/ and magnesium Ron? It helps me. I hope your tummy feels better soon too.

Following the hair colour trend...my hair is pure white ...the hairdresser says it is so white
he will never agree to a colour......I would not allow it either.
Used to be a light brown with natural blond streaks until the infection with Herpes zoster..
It took a few months to recover and then became white.

“You are old Father William” the young man said...
“And your hair has become very white..
And yet you incessantly stand on your head...
Do you think at your age it is right ?

“In my youth” Father William replied to his son..
“I feared it might injure the brain,
But now that I’m perfectly sure I have none...
Why I’ll do it again and again”
Lewis Carroll

I love Lewis Carroll, Trysha!
I'll also add that as far as I can remember when my grandfather was alive, he had the most beautiful head of white wavy hair. Very handsome (even if I'm a little prejudiced.)
You fine folk may be spared a little of my ramblings, because I joined a PH support group. I made one post and have had 41 comments in response. 😮:ywow:

Wow Sandy. .see you are just so lovely that people are drawn to you. 💞

Trysha love the poem... i get what he means i could stand on my head all day everyday and cause no harm 😁😁💕

My first grey hairs came in just about the same time I had my first hospitalization for abscess surgery and related sepsis. There does seem to be a connection between hair issues and health. I'm salt and pepper now and it doesn't bother me, it sure bothered me at first though.

I dont really care what colour my hair is
I really wish I had more on my head and less in my ears [emoji55][emoji52]

My late father had snowy white hair and his friends called him Snowy..he was a typical Scotsman and ruled us very strictly.Fortunately our mum was very much softer.
He became white overnight,,,as the story goes....when my sister at five years old died from diphtheria..before I was born....very tragic.
The vaccine for it was introduced within the year of this happening.
Sandy...I love your ramblings...please don’t stop...
Mandy....I can join you in that since most of the time lately I have been standing on my head...with appointments coming out my ears...have to be grateful though for all the prompt attention when most needed.
It is a very dark night tonight but the stars so deep in the sky are twinkling so bright...it is the calm after the storm...we had lots of rain yesterday...for which the trees and gardens are forever grateful
Winning.....

I have a question. If you change jobs in the US, are you required by law to tell your new employer that you have crohn's disease?

I have a question. If you change jobs in the US, are you required by law to tell your new employer that you have crohn's disease?

That's a hard one to answer and is quite subjective. Also, I'm not a lawyer and can't give legal advice, but will tell you what I believe. No you (nor your husband) are not required to tell Madhu! Just like a woman doesn't have to reveal she is pregnant. On the other hand, I believe employers work with their employees better if they know in advance though. Employers are also not to discriminate due to "handicap," (I think Crohn's would apply here) and are actually supposed to provide "reasonable accommodation" (changes, if necessary, like longer amounts of time in the bathroom than average --- I believe, again, this would apply here) unless it creates an undue hardship for the employer, under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). If not a US citizen, I'm not sure how much the ADA act would apply, so I would contact a legal aid office (free, or reduced legal assistance, depending on income), or a lawyer, if possible. I have to emphasize, this is my opinion. But I really don't believe this has to be disclosed in advance. If nothing else, (this is what I would do), at a job interview I would very briefly mention that I have an intestinal disease, but that it shouldn't interfere with the ability to do one's job.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Sandy. It does help. I will check with my SIL who is an immigration attorney here. She may know something

Hate to disagree with my wife, but I would not even mention I have Crohn's in a interview. Nothing in the law says you have to tell them. I would not unless it becomes an issue. If you tell them you have a sickness, they may find some other reason to not hire you.

This thread is the only way at all that I'm winning today, because otherwise I'm definitely losing. Specifically, I got laid off today.

Aw noooo Cat. Thats a bummer, you poor girl. I hope that you find something really soon hun. Sending hugs n best of luck ☘ that a job comes your way asap

Trysha sure you can join me standing on your head.. if you want you can also join me in chasing my tail, as it sounds like me you do that to. Maybe in a different way but still chasing it.

Madhu... here in the UK you do not legaly have to disclose a health condiction. Employers are also not suppossed to even ask, tho some do. In my interview a couple of years back they did ask. I decided on being open about it, then they could not say at a later date that i wasnt fit for the job. I said i have crohns and have had 2 ops and am now well enough to work normaly. I got the job by the way. They are always concerned if they see im tired or in pain (with joints) and ask if im ok ,do i need to go home or take some time off. So i figure even though you dont need to tell them, it can make things easier if you do. Then if your not well they know why and dont think your trying to skive off work. Thats my opinion and of course the choice is yours on if you say or not. I believe that Doug is right and the same rules apply in the US as here. He also has a point about them saying your not right for the job using another excuse. I guess my best advice is dont mention it till you are formaly offered the job. As then if they change their mind you can maybe get them done under the discrimination acts.
Best of luck
Ps...can you google employment rights for the US as that should be able to give you more details. X

😃😃that made me chuckle. If its any consulation my dad was bald by 20 yrs old. So could have been worse ☺

I'm really sorry to hear that Cat, maybe it's for the better though in some strange way. You have been so stressed out about work as of late that I fear it may have even been hurting your health. I think you will find something better, I wish you the best and I'm also here for moral support.:ghug:

Hi Madhu,

I think a person has a right to privacy when it comes to medical issues. That's just my opinion though, I hope you can get some sound legal advice.

I agree, they will likely make up an excuse for not hiring you. I know in Canada (even though it's illegal to discriminate unless they specifically state in the job posting that you must be in good physical shape) if you even mention you have ever had a bad back in an interview it's game over. Of course they just tell you someone else was better qualified or something similar.

that's terrible Cat , hopefully you will get a better job soon , and in the meantime the rest might help you get a little healthier .

Sorry to hear your news Cat....
Look on it as a temporary change of plans
Something else much better will turn up soon rest assured.
When God closes a door ...He opens a window..

Oh nooooooo Cat! But I agree with the above, I hope the stress of not knowing what is going to happen with your job that has been stressful up until now, hopefully a little time to rest, all help your health improve immensely. I also think this is a great opportunity to find a job you enjoy more. There is a great future for you out there somewhere! I'm just sorry you have to go through, have gone through, all you have up until now. Though I know it is easier said than done, think of it as a stepping stone to a brighter future.
In regard to the disclosing health concerns, I'm afraid I wasn't very clear (though Doug and some of you will still disagree with me). I wasn't at all saying it is law to disclose such health problems, and I should have said that even as immigrants I'm sure you don't have to disclose health concerns when applying for a job, (but I'm still not sure how all the ADA laws specifically apply to you), but it has been my experience, like Mandy's at least in this one case, to be upfront regarding health so it can't be held against you later. I've had experience on both sides of the coin, one where I didn't disclose a health problem and ended up being fired (in all fairness wouldn't have got the job ifI did disclose, and Doug, if you don't know what I'm talking about you can ask me), and one time when I did disclose up front that I was pregnant (pre-Doug, from former marriage, and that child is obviously not here now), and they hired me on the spot because of my honesty. You all know too, that I'm a pretty open book on a lot of things. It's my personality, as long as I don't think it will hurt myself or others. (And I'm very good at keeping secrets, when asked.) I also think you have to kind of weigh it out with those you are interviewing with, not all prospective employers would look kindly on someone with a health condition. Like Mandy did, if you (your hubby Madhu) chose to disclose anything, I wouldn't do so without emphasizing strongly his fitness for work at the present time and foreseeable future. Still, I think a little "up-frontness" (I know, not a word) helps. In most cases.
Hugs to all you beautiful people! :ghug:

This cat has his Halloween costume on ahead of time.

Doug and I sometimes watch reruns of "I Love Lucy" at night before we go to bed, and laugh at the fact that this married couple sleeps in separate beds, even after the birth of their son. In fact, they weren't allowed to use the word pregnant in any of the episodes. They had to use the word expecting. My, how times have changed.

That show really helped me when I was at home going through one of my flares.

Sandy i used to watch I Love lucy back in the day. I loved the beverley hillbillies too . I can still remember the title song to that show. ☺☺

I'm here! Feeling pretty optimistic, in fact. I ran a few errands today and walked around the botanical garden. It was really cold (30s and with a brisk wind) but a few things were still blooming. I had a nice time. I've done laundry and dishes and cooked dinner, too. I could get used to being a housewife. :p

I was getting ready for bed last night when there was a knock at the door.Trick or Treaters ? Hubby answered, but it was just the local peeping tom asking politely if I could shut the blinds......

Carol you make me giggle... you come out with some belters girl

Cat im glad you are feeling optimistic. Oh i like the sound of the botanical gardens what a lovely way to spend some time. Maybe the break from the stresses of working whilst you look for another job, could be healing for you in a way.

Hope all you folks are doing well n if your not right now that you soon will be. :ghug:

Shanen nice to see you.I (we) hope you're doing OK.:ghug:

No new issues so I guess I'm doing alright. :ysmile: Keeping busy with work, getting prepared for winter and hanging out with baby Isaac.

Hope everyone else is doing fine while I win. :thumleft:

Can't forget The A-Team and The Dukes of Hazzard, those were pretty awesome too!

My brother, Ross, used to call himself Rosco P. Coltrane, lol. (From The Dukes of Hazard tv show for those of you not familiar with it.)

I have to tell a funny story (with Doug's permission). Dave has talked and talked about the time his stomach really, really hurt, said he had gastritis. Out of curiosity, I asked him how long he had it (since I've had it previously also). he said, "Oh, about a day." He has no clue. :rof: :rof: :rof:

Sandy did not want to hog all the posts, so she told me to ask you, Ron, if you got your MRI results back?

It is impossible to lick your elbow....please don't try,I was in out-patients for two days.

Chris Ron and Doug. that means you !!!

In the stone-age half of all people were left handed, but today only 5% of us are left handed......Barney Rubble was himself left handed.

I think the righties killed off most of the lefties as they thought being a leftie was unlucky/touched by evil etc - Im a leftie and when I was young and learning to write the teacher tried to force me to use my right hand .

I just cleaned out my desk at work. Um, holy cow. It looked like an episode of Hoarders. Who really needs 20 cans of fruit? Oh, apparently that's me. Who needs decorations for every holiday and 6 sweaters? Also me. 12 mugs and about 100 tea bags? Me! I have a feeling that I'm going to be bringing most of this stuff to donate to the thrift shop in the near future. In the meantime, anybody want to have a tea party? Because I apparently have all the necessary supplies! :p

Count me in Cat...love a cuppa tea ☺

Hope all you motley crew are having a good day health wise. Im doing ok except very weary as per usual ☺☺

Keep on keeping on folks 💞💝 :ghug:

Grrrr! Unfortunately, that was very common around here too back in our growing up years. But still, grrr!

:ywow:I looked for the video, Mandy, but I got a little too squeamish to find it. :eek:utahere:
Hope everyone's having a great day. I'm trying to decide if I am, it's been a bit of a mixed bag.

In January 1205 it was so cold in England wine and beer froze and were sold by weight.....

It was before my time of course but my dear old dad remembers going for a couple of pounds of beer on a Friday night

Sandy bless you for trying. I tried all roads up to get it to work on the link !!!

Love to all. Having early night, got a 12/13hr ish shift on tomorrow as its our xmas opening night at work .... i may fall head 1st into the decs by 8pm 😴😴.

It has been a sad day. Last night there was a shooting on the campus of the UofU, something I don't ever remember hearing of there for any reason, which caused a schoolwide lockdown of the entire campus until the wee hours of the morning while they looked for the shooter (one killed in an attempted carjacking) and cancellation of today's classes. The shooter was apprehended, thankfully, today, (thanks to an observant city librarian) and booked into jail. Apparently just a few days ago he and his wife carjacked and murdered another person in Colorado, so warrants were out for their arrests from there. The victim was a foreign exchange student from Beijing. :( We changed channels to wait for a news conference to start about that (Dave watches T.V. all day, I usually don't turn it on daytime), where we found from a breaking national news story about a terrorist attack in Manhattan that has killed at least eight on a bike path 😢. Then I found out that my niece's new hubby was friends with the shooting victim at the U. I feel so horribly for his family in Beijing. Authorities here are trying to make arrangements with the powers that be there to get travel permits.
Im tired of all the violence, everywhere.

Hugs to you, Sandy. We live in a scary scary world :( The Manhattan attack is so close to home. I have a doctor's appointment literally a block from there on Thursday. It's very scary :(
