No, I haven't been having any bad dreams or any I remember lately for a CHANGE!!!

I've been having touble too on the internet just to get some web pages to come up. It's really frustrating. I think it's from solar flares interupting our service signals.:(

the weird thing about Neurontin is that is just makes dreams that can already be weird, weirder. Not necessarily bad, just really strange. stranger than any dream you can imagine. I'm glad you're not having you're bad dreams though.

:confused2:No, it's been awhile for some reason. I wonder if any of my other meds were causing them.... Veery possible the lorazepam was. the pharmacy said they can. I get eye twitches really bad too!

as long as a really big one doesn't hit us on December 21, you know the end of the world by the Mayan calendar!

vitamins that aren't being absorbed properly (from crohns) can cause the eye twitches also.

really??? I never heard that before! Why? I get leg pains alot too. Like aching in my calves especially!

aching in calves could be some sort of neuropathy (as the name Neurontin implies). has that gotten better with Neurontin? otherwise, I would ask your doctor.

I told her about that and she called it myositis and it's part of fibromyalgia she said.

There are signs in the sun moon and stars!!! It is getting closer by the day!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I'm not saying that things aren't happening. You know my religious beliefs (as does about everyone that's been around on this thread), but just me, I don't think the end of the earth will be Dec. 21. who knows though? (I sure want to open that big box that came and is my Christmas present though. I do think a lot of biblical things are happening.

I dont think it is the end of the world. But, i believe it is the beginning of the great tribulation or half way point when God starts getting really sick of us denying his jugdment here and the USA is not mentioned in Revelations anywhere! We won't bee here much longer but we will be taken out before the bomb explodes or whatever major thing happens I believe. Just sayin.... U have a right to believe ho wu want too love!

That makes sense. My calves ache because I have "spastic" legs, the muscles are trying to work against each other, put very simplistic. they ache a lot, lot, lot, especially without my massages. It also makes it hard to take a lot of steps in one day. Also, my left side is weaker than my right. I use cane if I'm going to be away from walls to grab on to, and my wheelchair if it is too far. I'm a lot better than I used to be, though. before, I had a hard time walking two houses, now I can walk around the block or a little more. most of my neighbors don't even know I stilluse a wheelchair if I go further than that.

I'm not trying to bee rude. the family I grew up in loves to get in great debates, and actually thrives on it. I hope I didn't make u feel bad.

My left side is also my weaker side. Everything that hurts is on the left side from my back surgery on down.... You are getting better bee!!! I'm happy for you!!

Alot of times they pack little things in big boxes to protect something delicate. Does that help? Did u ever receive my card????

No, I got that new camera and the car!!! I think if I get anything else it will be a lump of coal:rof::rof:

that's funny, Ashley and Doug brought me home a little bag of tiny coal bits (bubble gum that looks like coal. Ashley's idea of course)

That is too funny, wish I could find that so I could give it to some of the kids in my family for a joke!:rof:

as long as you are improving is all that matters! I wonder where Angel and Kirsty are and GJ? Weird isn't it???:(

Actually, it feels like a miracle to me. I was told I would be "in my chair" the rest of my life. in fact, we basically moved because of that.

AND YES, WHERE IS EVERYONE?

I am going to go now Bee. TTY tmoro. OK? Loves to you and yours!!!

Hi Sandy mum is a much better cook than I am

Just poping in for win!:)

Hi Kirsty. I don't cook much, but I'm still a better cook than my mother when growing up. (Sorry Mom.) your family must have some great get togethers. I'm going to bed now too. happy day/night to everyone!

Quick post before I'm off to the shop. Haven't done a list so I'm probably going to come back with nothing but noodles and seeds again.

Home. Having a snack befor going out with the dog. Not gonna be a very long wal again. The weather is cold and we are getting more snow. Not that we need any more of it.

To Dee. Taking your weight every day is probably not a great idea. Even once a week can be fine. For me when I am feeling good I try and remember to check it about once a week. If I am feeling sick or super tired I will check it more often and if I get a drop in my weight I will monitor it dayly untill it picks up again. I do that to make sure it wont drop too low. Since my problem is underweight and not over weght. I could still gain a couple kg but I have gotten about 5 kg more since 2 years ago.

Hubs was watching "TWO BROKE CHICKS". So not my style. It's a guy show if u ask me!!!
I usually weigh myself almost everyday. If I looked like u I don't think I would worry about it.:)

I started out about a year ago I was pretty overweight and pretty unhappy about it, more than I weighed when I was pregnant. Worked super hard to drop approx 50 pounds through alot of hard core dieting. Then crohns hit and I dropped another 20 - 25. So it's been a combination. I am still very aware and weigh in daily and my moods and eating habits fluctuate according to that damn number on the scale each morning.

Quick post before I'm off to the shop. Haven't done a list so I'm probably going to come back with nothing but noodles and seeds again.

Seeds? Get some yoghurt (natural.. not ones with 1 kg sugar in it)... it will be good for you. And some fruits too. See.. I can make you a good shopping list. :rof:

Is that cold for normal weather or cold for finnish weather? I know a finnish girl and she thought 2 degrees celsius was warm. If it's anywhere around that temp I don't go outside!

And as far as weighing goes you can weigh yourself everyday but if you do, doing it at the same time and taking an average for the week is the best way to do it. You can lose or gain a couple lbs a week from just water. So even if you've noticed you're 5lbs lighter or heavier than the day before not much has probably changed. I'll link an interesting vid (which is aimed at bodybuilding really, but explains weighing well if you really want to watch it). The graph comes up around 4:30, and no I don't know why the man is shirtless
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYMNPP2ZR1U

And good thinking actually, I do need to buy some yoghurt again. I had some of that low fat greek style stuff you can get a while back, someone asked for something to eat so I gave them it and they hated it :(

Fruits.. gonna see whats on offer :) Sometimes I get some nice stuff, so I'll say when I'm back!

So how come everyone has to avoid certain foods and nothing seems to bother me at all. I often wonder if I was misdiagnosed. I can literally eat anything and not have any issues at all.

I would say normal cold since its actually warm for this time of the year. Just feels cold. But it will only get colder from here on.

The reason I say to weigh your self weekly instead of daily is that one can get a bit obsessed with weight and its not mentally healthy. Ofc its different if you are bodybuilding and monitoring our weight for some other reasons. But generally a "normal" person should not weigh in daily. In my opinion. ;)

For me if my weight goes down 2 kg.. and yeah its fluids.. but for me that if bad. I will feel really weak and humming in my head and so on. Thats because I all ready am on the verge of dehydration on a daily base with my short gut. So fluids are really important. And It can take 1 day for the 2-3 kg to drop, but it will take me a week to get it back. This is taking the weight in the mornings before eating and drinking.

Some people are so used to the iky sweet manufactured fruit yoghurts that the plain ones taste bad to them. I will eat nothing but plain.. ofc I add fruit or berrys to it but no sugar. So I would say your friend had bad taste. :ylol2:

So how come everyone has to avoid certain foods and nothing seems to bother me at all. I often wonder if I was misdiagnosed. I can literally eat anything and not have any issues at all.

I do think it depends a lot on the individual. I can pretty much eat anything too.. espesially now with the stoma. But when I had strictures I had to think what I eat since I know the passage in my gut was only some mm open. So no seeds, skins or hard fibers. Some others may be sensitive to milk and get reactions from it.. other maybe from wheat. It just really depends and everyone has to find what fits them best. But generally I suport a healthy diet and one example is this yoghurt. The ones with fruit have so much added sugars in it its just discusting to think about it. Its way better to get the natural one and even add some sugar to that and you will still get less sugar.

Generally for people with crohns I would say eat our vegetables cooked since raw vedgies are hard on your digestion. And eat smaal amount but like 5 times a day.

And Dee.. You must have some issues or you would not have gotten diagnosed. ;)

And yeah.. I know.. I am procrastinating to not go out.. so I am chatting wayyyy too much. Sorry.

Squirrels?
EWWW and OMG!!! A couple months ago, my husband and I took his mom for lunch at some vietnamese place and I was very leery about what I could eat that wouldn't be gross. Picked a "grilled chicken breast" and I was sure it was squirrel, like 99% positive and I barely knew his mom and was gagging it down and I actually brought it home to make him try lol.

I freaking love our local Vietnamese restaurants in Hartford. Pho is one of my favorite things. We have a few places that ONLY do Pho. Who cares if it's squirrel? It's red hot, totally sterile. :)

There's one place that uses the best cuts of beef... so tender, and they drop them raw into the scalding noodle soup and they cook on the table. SOOOO good. OMG. Now I'm craving it.

I sure would be glad to give you some of mine!!!:ylol2:

Seriously, I can't get under 240 lately. I'm 6'1" so it doesn't look absolutely slovenly, but it's not great. :(

Yeah I usually buy some raspberries or blackberries while I'm at the supermarket since it's one of the few things I can't get from the market stalls here.

Also I don't think I have to avoid any foods either. I mean when I was ill I was ill regardless of what I ate so I might do I might just not know it. Now with a stoma I eat anything and haven't run into any problems yet.

I've also had squirrel once, it wasn't bad but I don't think I'll be having it again. There's a market stall here that sells things like pheasant, squirrel, rabbit, etc. My friend back home in Wales is getting kangaroo meat from somewhere too, but I've never tried that.

And I'm looking forward to the time where I have to lose weight! I've been drinking ~4 pints of skimmed milk a day to try bulk up my calories and for now it's working luckily. From foods I manage to get around 1.7k and the milk takes me up to about 2.4k, so it's going fairly good.

I don't believe that a Crohn's/UC patient exists on the planet that couldn't benefit from dietary modification, although I do think there is a glut of those who believe diet doesn't matter, all while they keep getting sick and misunderstanding the reasons. That's not to say that I think poor diet causes IBD, but it sure doesn't help, where the definition of "poor" is highly mutable.

My first boyfriend used to shoot squirrels and his Mom cooked it in spaghetti sauce one time. I ate there for dinner and I remember thinking it tasted like chicken with very little meat! Just knowing what it is though can be the problem. But if you all were starving, I'm sure a squirrel would be welcome!!!:ylol2:

Morning Dee!
How are you feeling today? You said nothing you eat bothers you, but you were so nauseus yesterday. Food can affect you the next day. It stays in you for quite sometime. So even if you eat something and feel fine, doesn't mean tmoro it won't upset your entire system....

To some extent I agree. But then when your underweight and have a strictures its really hard to start to drop high energy foods that are keeping you going out of your diet. For me to leave out dairy would be really hard.. also just to find a calorie substitute for it. When I was younger I really just ate what I felt like eating. I am one of those that believes the "junk food" diet goes perfect with crohns. High energy.. easy digest. But nowdays I dont like junkfood anymore (at least not often). Right now I can tolerate anything and I love vegetables and salads. But in the past there is no way I could have eaten a salad as a meal. Things I wish I had left out (or eaten less of) in the past is sugar and wheat. In anycase I dont think food has much to do with it. I would have been sick anyways no matter what I ate.

Salad, generally, is terrible for Crohn's. I do low-residue, no dairy, and I admit I haven't had to worry about keeping weight on, but junk food (fast food) is TERRIBLE for me. I pass it faster than I can digest it. What people typically think of as "healthy" eating does not generally apply to Crohn's, but eating junk is asking for trouble.

Morning Dee!

You are such a sweetheart that I wanna just reach in and hug you sometimes. Feeling fine. The nausea yesterday wasn't food related as I hadn't eaten anything at all and it hit at 4 pm. It was dreadful, worst ever, couldn't move an inch, but left after a 2 hour nap and 2 of my pills.

Tonight I'm out for dinner with mom and dad for some yummy supper!

How are you doing?

Okay, going out on a limb here and gonna be gross. But people talk about fistulas and I don't know much but think something grows and connects to something, etc. I have a bump on my butt, like a small one, maybe a pea, but it's been there for months and I'm wondering if I should get my butt doc (GI) to look at it. Btw, my butt doc ... I call him Dr. Yum Yum cuz he's totally hot lol

The bump on your butt didn't gross me out but "Dr. Yum Yum" applied to a gastro made me throw up a little in my mouth.

It could be an abscess or fistula, or it might just be a cyst. I get cysts all over the place, in my armpits, on my thighs, and on my butt cheeks. I normally lance them myself with a hot knife or needle but in your case you'll probably want to talk to Dr. Yummers about it.

Yeah trying to put on any weight really without high fat foods like fast food or foods high in sugary carbs is difficult. A portion of rice for me is about 200-250g, which comes out to about 450 calories if I remember right. But there's no way I could eat that much when I was ill. If I remember right, 1g of carb is about 4 calories while 1g of fat is 9 calories, so trying to gain weight while still being "healthy" is difficult.

Also Dr. Yum Yum is an.. interesting name. I'm not quite sure what to say about it really!

I don't avoid sugar at all. Twinkies used to be a standby of my teens. I just avoid seeds, nuts, raw vegetables and fruit, anything with a husk, whole grain, and dairy. Mostly.

When Dr. Yum Yum gives me bad news or is crabby or rushes me during my appointments, he then gets demoted to being called Dr. Bum Bum lol

The first couple of years of diagnosis, I found junk food agreed with me better than healthy foods. This is not to say I enjoyed it every minute, I missed my salads and raw veggies, etc. My then idiot boyfriend hollered at me in front of friends for eating junk after he watched me throw up, told me the junk food was my problem. Idiot.

I am doing good lately! Even the arthritis has improved with the neurontin. It's so nice being able to do things without yelping in pain!:yfrown::thumright:

Than by all means, go ahead!!!:soledance:LOL!

I found that too. I don't know why junk food was just easier to digest but it was. Although now it's got to the point where if I eat any junk food I feel so sluggish and things afterwards.

Yeah, people are pretty stupid when it comes to knowing about crohns. It must've took me years trying to tell me parents that it was that I was ill that I wasn't eating, not that not eating made me ill.

If anyone asks now I just tell them to read wikipedia. The page isn't much help if you want to go in depth but it gets them off my back for a bit.

For me this was the case too (minus the boy friend part) . I could eat a pizza or a hamburger and not feel sick one bit.. still can. My stomach was fine. But eat a nice balanced home meal and its cramps, puking and a trip to the ER. That what I mean with the "junkfood diet"... And same diat as with muper.. I used to never eat any raw vegetables or salads.

And I am happy I dont have a Dr Yum Yum. That would be so shameful. Though my mom seems to get crushes on to my surgeons.:biggrin:

I can't stand when people without crohn's think they know it all and publicly bash you for what you are eating. Like if I want a burger, I'm having it and if I poop it out, my problem, not yours. I have one lady who honestly reams me out all the time and I honestly wanna pop her in the nose.

Just say politely, Nothing I eat makes any difference, it's stress that gets me going.... Maybe she'll shut up then! LOL:thumleft:

They will never get it, some people. I'm like you, if I want to eat it, I will. My first GI told me to eat what I wanted, if I could, he just wanted weight back on me.
Also,.....on an unrelated note, am I the only one that has ever wondered, out of all the many medical fields and specialities a person can go into, why pick what has got to be one of the grossest jobs, lol!

Hey, I posted a bunch of family pictures on my profile page if u want to look at them Dee. I have one great one of my hubs but it won't let me post it. It must be too big or something????:yfrown:

Yeah, kind of makes you wonder why one would be fascinated with the intestinal tract???

I can sometimes stomach McDonald's better than a home cooked meal (depending on what's in the home cooked meal, if it's bland then I'm probably OK), but I think that you pay in the long run for this kind of a diet with Crohn's. Fats, quick carbs, empty calories, will worsen your overall health and your fatigue and depression from Crohn's will be more severe. In my opinion you're trading short-term convenience for long-term suffering.

You can't tell me you do better with a Big Mac than a boiled boneless chicken breast and some mush peas. I refuse to believe it. :)

Honestly if you calorie counted properly and made sure you didn't stack on too many fats, you could get away with eating BigMacs. The only problem with fast food is MSG. Like if I was to eat two double cheeseburgers and one large fries from McDonalds now, I know I'd still be under my fat allowance for the day because I counted that way. Your diet in the long term won't suffer from too much fat IF all your other meals are fairly lean. If you eat McDonalds, Bacon, whole milk, etc on the same day you're gonna gain weight.

That said I am that guy you see in the supermarket with two packets of very similar things counting in his head. I just enjoy doing it.

You can't tell me you do better with a Big Mac than a boiled boneless chicken breast and some mush peas. I refuse to believe it. :)

I dont know... I remember having days that eating that chicken breast (dry, chewwy) would have been impossible. Then I had days the only thing i was able to eat was toast with just butter on it and milk. Anything more would make me sick (strictures).

For me some foods are easier to eat then others.. hard to explain ezactly. Like a spagethi might be easy food as in its easy to make and to eat. But then like this chicken meal for example will just get stuck in the mouth and be hard to swallow. And there are definately days that I just want an "easy" dinner.. like today.. I dont feel like kooking and would be so happy for someone to just bring me a ready meal to eat.

But definately agree about the long run with all the preservatives, clourings, flayvor enhancers.. I try and avoid all that junk nowdays. But if I am sick I will eat them.

I'm not sure I agree that MSG is the only concern in McDonald's food, but to each their own. :)

Fats and calories are not the only concerns. Nutrition is pretty paramount when you're doing as much healing as often as you are with Crohn's (or attempting to do, anyhow).

If your chicken breast is dry and chewy, you're overcooking it. Get a meat thermometer and enjoy some tender meat that won't likely screw up your gut (unless you have a chicken protein intolerance.)

Yeah, honestly if you're sick and you can't manage healthy food then just getting calories is important. When I was ill this summer I dropped to below 45kg at 5'9", that's about 99lbs. To gain weight quickly eating whatever you want/can is the best course, and nobody should really tell you otherwise.

And alright, salt too. But everything bad about McDonalds food you can offset by making sure the rest of your diet is done well. Like when I cook I add no salt if I know later that day I'm going to be eating something pretty salty. But MSG you can't really change your diet for, it's just bad.

OK but let's not conflate the two things. In one scenario you're dangerously underweight and must either gain weight or end up in an ICU on IV lipids. In the other, you're just feeling shitty and depressed and don't want to add bland, boring, often high-effort cooking to the mix when you could just pop out for a burger.
